  • even if they offer "HD" videos, keep in mind the memory space u have.some seconds of that HD video and u have no space left for photos.

if u really want HD buy a HD video cam rather than this.
    there are no stupid questions.

AFAIK D40x has been stopped but D40 is very much in production...

Moreover u gotta understand this - profit margin of any commodity is directly proportional to its price .. Now u know why the dealer is misguiding you.
D40 is available at dirt cheap price, which I think, a reason for it no more into comptt with 400D,1000D,450D etc.
Trust me, D40 minus 6mp sensor is no less than any other 35k+ DSLR ...

Go for it if u get it, my gut feel has increased after my North Canara trip.
The cam didn't disappoint in very hot/humid temperature, mishandling while trekking, taking shot from very near to water fall (I was wet completely but the cam worked well) dropped more than two times majorly, but still the camera smiles , with tons of NEF format photos and a lil dirty sensor which I have to get it cleaned..

M fallen in love with it again !..

          • guys, what are your opinions about fujifilm s2000hd (10MP, 15x zoom).
am basically looking for a budget super zoom cam.
i was looking at the canon sx110is, but am getting a good deal on fuji.
            specs look better on fuji.
            is it good/bad/ok?

@need4torque- We have another boss in blore called as Jayesh from foto circle. He can get anything u want but its grey, I mean grey as in market.

Nikon operates on a low dealer margin so its difficult to get a D40. I believe u try ebay.in for D40 with warranty. Price is very lil more or the same as grey market ... Lenses are easily available..

Nikon gives a flexibility of having lenses with and without AF motor (now I realise its actually a flexibility)..
Nikon D40 with 6mp sensor is the reason why its not kept in a comptt with 10mp cams. But a 6mp sensor makes u compromise on crop factor and not the image quality as a whole.

The D40 would retail between 20-22k with the 'kit' lens Haxor. And I believe this is the gray market price(??)...

I will say again, I have got ALL my stuff up until now from gray market and they are working like a dream! I don't regret ONE BIT. I, for one don't have that deep a pocket to go for proper billed stuff, at double the price..

Really though, the gray market stuff does work like a charm, atleast in my (and many of my friend's) case(es), they are working flawlessly.

Except the body (which is a 400D by the way), everything else (the lenses, the filters, etc.) is from the gray market and NOTHING has gone wrong. I believe you can also "depend" upon these so called "gray" markets for your stuff, no issues as such.
