My friend has decided to go for the Sony w220 , 12.1 megs.

A good decent point and shoot. I truly hoped he would get a Fz 28 (being my roommate n all).

          Thanks everyone..

            • was inquiring about the price of the 1000d and the price quoted was 26250.the default lens is an 18 - 55 lens without IS and I asked for the body alone.I was quoted the price 22250 and 11k for a 55-250 IS lens.I was also quoted 28k for a 450d without warranty.you guys think it is a good deal.the 1000d and the lens was offered with the cannon 2 years of warranty.he said he would give me the kit for 33k,(I guess with some bargaining I could get it for 32k}

I am planning on getting the 1000d soon.you guys think it is a good deal

              • @Steve: Between the 1000D and the 450D, I would choose the 450D anyday with my eyes closed. Higher resolution, coupled with better ISO performance AND not to mention 'Spot Metering' would give you better results as compared to the 1000D.

The EOS 450D is a really good D-SLR for the budget user. I wanted to get the 450D myself, but ended up getting the 400D because of budget constraints.

the 450d for 28 k do you think is better without warrenty or the 1000d with a 55-250lens for 32k

Right now I am on a tight budget.I am still thinking about saving and get the 450d.problem is the 500d seems like a better option than the 450d.in life there is something better than the other.

should I wait and go for the 450d or get the 1000d soon.

                  • @Steve: The 500D is better than the 450D with HD video shooting and new Digic processor and what not, but then again look at the budget and then decide. Atleast, that's how I go about my purchases.

I say again, if you can afford the 450D, then go for it, rather than the 1000D. You won't regret.

Aryan - my budget is around 30k and I might stretch it by 1 or 2 k.so is it advisable to go for a Grey market camera without warranty?I was offered the 450d for 28k which is less than a 1000d with warranty.

                      • Steve, As i told yu the other day - Go for the 450.. I know Farooq for some time and Im sure he would give you a 2 year Store warranty, which is fair enough for a Grey piece.. and that You get a 450D + 55-250IS + accesories, I would say its a sweet deal you shouldnt miss. Good Luck!

                        • can some one tell me what is spot metering, how important it is and is it a very good reason to avoid the 1000d ?.explanation would be better if it was in layman language.

Steve, what a spot meter does, as you can imagine from the name, is to take a meter reading from a specific part of a scene or subject.

The spot meter is used when the photographer wants to get exactly what he or she is looking for. With all other metering systems, when photographing a complex (more than one tone) subject, one can never be sure of the exact outcome. Other metering systems lend themselves to subjects that are of average contrast.

Most of the times, the camera's "normal exposure" generally is close enough to the correct exposure, the less-demanding photographer will and can settle for this exposure. But believe me, the spot metering DOES come in handy on more than one complex occassion!
                            :)

taking your avatar as example through spot, your face would have been in the exposure.the other things would have been white making it hi key.

                              • Guys finally my parents decided to buy us a Camera.

My bro was asking for a DSLR(and we dont even know the basics of photography and camera's)

so what do you guys suggest? buy a DSLR directly or get a good PS camrea and then upgrade to a DSLR?

Now this is going to be a one time investment.

what option do i have if my budget is between 12-20k for a PS camera with a good zoom?

and whats the cheapest available DSLR?
