A TC would ofcourse bump your reach, at the cost of quality of photographs. I have never used third party lenses; hence, I am not the right person to answer this query of yours rubber stamp.

            • @Satan: So, you got yourself the 500D! It's a great D-SLR. I am sure you would enjoy using it, and I also hope we get more participation from you on the Photography and Critique section henceforth.

I am Looking for a DSLR in price range 30-35K
can anyone please suggest a good cam
I thought for new D3000 but every review says its a slow cam
anyone has hands on experience of it?
D90 with 18-105 is way out of my budget (57 w/o bill)
                  are there any other options??

Also i wanted to sell my DSC H50 coz unless i sell it I cant afford a new DSLR...best place to sell?

                  • @Omi: When you say you have read reviews and the reviews say it is a "slow cam", I presume you are interested in a camera which shoots "fast", so to say. I just want to ask - what would your primary usage be, rather why do you really want to get an D-SLR?
                    :)

                    • after experimenting with my cam I am heavily interested in photography
I want to develop it as a hobby
The quality a DSLR offers is nowhere near a P&S,

I basically capture anything I like, but i have special liking for macros
actually i went to a shop too for details of it, he too said it will not be suitable,
so just wanted to confirm here

                      • @Omi: Believe me, the sales guys have zilch idea when it comes to what the customer really requires. They are there to sell and make maximum profit, remember! However, YOU are the one who should know what your requirements are, before you buy an expensive D-SLR. Moreover, please understand that getting a D-SLR is not the end of it all. It's not like - "I'll buy a D-SLR and I'll get some amazing photographs!"

For example, since you say you are interested in macro photographs; now, for getting true macro photographs (1:1), you would need specialized macro lenses which do not come cheap, whereas clicking a macro photograph with a digital camera (P&S or prosumer) is WAY easy! And shooting macros do not really require an 8fps camera!

Also, remember that buying a D-SLR means buying into a whole system of lenses, and accessories. So, think about your requirements hard, first, and then invest in a D-SLR. It's something more than just a 'camera'; it's a whole new world (both creatively and with regards to the money you would eventually end up spending AFTER getting your D-SLR!!).
                        :)

                        • I completely agree that getting a D-SLR is not end
yes i know it, it will be a NEW START(whenever i will get it)for me..

i have read a lot, and then only came to this decision, it not like that i fancy D-SLR
i know its a big investment indeed (even bigger when doing it on fathers hard earned money), even started saving money for it...
thats why i came here and asked,

PS: I am not buying it till the moment i feel that my gear is limiting me.

                          • Aryan the actual problem I am facing is ISO,

I just cant take clear pics in low light
As soon as I take the ISO at and above 200 the quality goes down too fast,
400 is very noisy, above 400 cannot be cropped

like if i have to take macros, i have to take them either on ISO 80 or 100
above which i lose details heavily

shutter longer than 1 sec, and noise enters in fast
and chromatic aberrations are there (though it never troubled me)
i don't actually need upgrade at this stage(if these problems can be removed)
Except that i have no problems
and i am satisfied with whatever I have (excluding the iso problem)

                            • @Omi: Low light problems and digital cameras go hand-in-hand. For a D-SLR however, going upto ISO 800 is not a problem at all. I use a Canon 400D D-SLR, and in extremely low light, I put in the 50mm f1.8 and coupled with ISO 400-800, I get the shots that I want, generally.

As for the problems of longer shutter speeds creeping in noise, that is also because of the small sensor that a digital camera has, in comparison to a D-SLR (either FF or APS-C bodies). If you do end up getting a D-SLR, do let us know.

                              Thanks.
                              :)
