I have Panasonic FZ-35 (predecessor of FZ-100) and I am more than happy with the Leica lens. FZ35 was better than the competition (Canon SX20, Nikon P100 etc).I bought it from US and it had no Indian/international warranty. It's been 1 year and I am happy with my buy.
However, last week my friend bought Sony HX100V from Sony World, Hyderabad for 22K with 3 years of Warranty(and a Class 4 4Gb MMC). On paper Sony HX100V is most feature rich and potent camera for the price in the market. I can't comment on the picture quality but one week of hands on gives good feeling. Plus 3 years of Indian warranty is a good factor (if you are looking for a long run.

        • Guys, wanna buy a digicam. I'm no pro, neither I know much about photography. As for starting, I want to buy a digicam to use it for the trips and occasions etc.. Maybe I'll also use it for clicking frames in free time as timepass (like macros or something) and my budget is around 7K INR only as I am planning to buy it from my own savings. Please suggest me some of the decent cams with nice features. Also, it will be helpful if you give some small descriptions about the features and why you recommend that cam because I am just a lay man in the field.

              Thanks for your response, buddy.

Could you please compare Nikon L23 with Nikon CoolPix s3100 and Canon Powershot A2200?

              I'm confused about these two.

Comparing the Nikons the main differences between the L23 and S3100 are (from the specs)- size, video specs and lens speed. The S3100 is sleek and better video. But If I were to chose between them I would chose the L23 as it has faster lens.

Now between the Nikon and Canon, I would say it depends which brand you like the most. Also the Canon A2200 looks cool in looks department and its specs present a mixed alternative to L23 and S3100 but at a higher price point. With the canon P&S cameras you hardly go wrong.

                  • Camera for Casual Photography (Suggestions?)

                    Hi All,

I am absolutely new to photography and don't know much about the intricacies. I'm looking forward to buying a new point and shoot camera under 8k.

What are my best bets? Experts please comment.

PS: I would prefer Canon but Nikon and Sony will work too if they have something good on offer.

                    • After a lot of research I finally ordered this Camera. I wanted a rugged and easy to use PS camera and I guess this should serve the purpose.

If you want a no nonsense Pand S camera to shoot pictures of family and some landscape try the canon A2200 or the A3200Is. I have one and the image quality is pretty good for the price. the a2200 is around 6k with 2 yrs of canon warrenty. it has 720p HD video recording as well which adds value to it. looks sleek ,cool and handy.

                          Disadvantages -

1.no manuel mode or manuel settings - so cannot learn photography, I have a Canon 500d and this is my back up cam for shooting landscape on the move when I travel.

2nd disadvantage is the burst speed is slow which means there is a time lag of about 2-3 seconds between pictures so shooting action pics can be a challange.

                          3. The A2200 lacks IS, the 3200Is has this feature, personaly i did not need it as I shoot landscape and zoom is not of manor use to me but for 8k you will get one with Image stabilization.

apart from this it is a lovely camera to own for that price

                          • Guys, planning to get a good lens for sharp images with decent low light performance, a good bokeh will be ideal as well. Shortlisted the Canon 50mm 1.8 II Lens and the 1.4, does anyone already have one of these to their collection? I would like to get to know some details about user friendliness and ease of use before buying.

I have a HX100V which i purchased recently.. i compared it with Nikon and Canon in the same category and the Sony stands out.... Picture quality and zoom feature are good with Auto detect.. am still novice in this field though but can vouch for the HX 100

I have the canon 50mm 1.8 as well as the 1.4 (new) but in the old FD slr mount ... but they are basically the same designs as these new EF ones . The 1.4 is a superior lens in every way , great colours & sharpness . Bokeh is pretty good ... not creamy dreamy like the summilux 1.4 though .
