      • some ppl are interested in anything that moves... and if that is a much awaited two wheeler from Suzuki, especially with no much exciting launches around, we'd be making no mistake to be disinterested in a new bike

          • Hello,
i took a test ride of the Suzuki GS150R. the dealer was "Aryan Motors"
near Diamond District on old airport road, Bangalore. initially i was
just allowed to test it on a side road from the dealer to Royal Orchid
and back. since this is ridiculously small, i ended up taking 2 test
rounds, and even then i was not convinced that the bike could do 110
Km/Hr as claimed. The sales manager then insisted i take a ride on inner
            ring road to be satisfied

            Here are my impressions:
the bike is beautiful. to look at the bike in person is to fall in love and it's not just love, it's pure unadulterated lust. no picture either on the net or in print can quite prepare you for what you feel when you first lay eyes on this stunningly beautiful creature. you are drawn to run your hand over her and then drawn to sit on her to see how she feels. the digital console is also a thing of beauty. start the bike and the engine sounds really good. smooth and refined but with subtle hints of power.

i've read somewhere that you need to use your hand to pull out the kick
start. note that this is incorrect. i was able to use my heel to get it
out and kick start the bike.

            now the important stuff.
on the road, the bike is very stable. it is powerful enough and the
engine and gear box are very smooth. this makes it an almost perfect
bike in the city. overtaking is easy and the bike definately has road
presence. riding the bike is sheer pleasure. i loved every moment of it.
whether it was pulling away or low speed turns, this bike performs and
performs well. you can confidently take a U-turn on the road and not
have to put your foot down. and this is when the bike is new to me and i
had a chaperone sitting behind. So IMO the pros are:
            1) looks are mind blowing especially when you actually look at it in
            person.
            2) Power is above average to good. you can get past 99.99% of traffic. i touched 100 as indicated on the speedo when riding on inner ring road.
            3) Engine is refined and gears are very smooth and sure.
            4) and this should be the deal clincher; Handling is simply superb.

however unfortunatly the biggest con i can think of is the braking. this
bike sux under braking. the back brake is as good as not being there at
all. when i mentioned this to the technician he informed me that as many
people are testing the bike the back brake has become weak WTF. so you need to rely only on the front disc brake. the only silver lining is that the bike is so well balanced, that once when i slammed the front brake, the front wheel locked and skidded. however it skidded in a forward direction and it was trivial to control the bike.

i used to have a unicorn before. i was looking to buy a new unicorn now, but am torn between the unicorn and the GS150R. if not for the iffy braking it's almost a no brainer to go in for the suzuki. but w/o proper brakes i've started to lean back towards the unicorn.

i really want to buy the GS150R. even my friends love the bike. they reason that i already had a unicorn so it's time for something different. i'm sure my better half would love it too when she sees the bike. but the brake is giving me nightmares. i am an aggressive rider. i need my brakes and tyres to be top notch. i just hope it's something that can be fixed as i really do want to buy this bike.

            Regards,
            mario

            • Hey buddy, u seem to be in similar dilemma like me!

My take: If only breaks are deciding factor now, go for GS150R, the breaks are good. It is highly probable that the bike given to you had weak breaks.

              • The brakes cannot be that bad. I'm sure the test ride bike would have been messed up. Go for it&if you don't wanna lose out on your power braking, keep tightening the rear one every 15 days!
