A very close friend of mine who manufactures glasswool and heat absorption material like ceramic bricks and all, he suggested me to go in for ceramic blanket which can hold upto 1200 degrees centigrade. So now after that I haven't tried it on the highway, but within city limits the end can doesnt burn ur or ur chicks leg at all and the sound is also quite bassey, the only issue I have is that when I refilled the ceramic blanket last time I had put in normal amount of blanket inside but within 10 days the blanket started coming out of the holes that are there in the pipe, plus the exhaust note became veru trebleish, so I again opened it and saw that 1/4 of it was gone, so this time I pushed and packed the blanket so tight that even the end part wasnt going inside. Hope this time it stays well. When I went for the BIC track day then I had got some yellow colored glasswool filled in emergency as I rode down from kanpur to delhi at continously 120 110 kmph and by the time I opened the can there was not even a single thread of that glasswool inside it was all gone, gone completely. I was shocked to see that. How is it possible? Can u please help me out with this issue?

I am no expert on this matter, however my two cents would be that the extreme vibration and lack of barrier between the ffe's inner pipe and the glass wool (I say under the assumption that you only stuffed glasswool and didn't use a mesh first to protect it) made the glass wool disintegrate and get out of the ffe in that short a distance.

Please refer to Juris's thread for the right procedure on repacking a ffe. It will make a huge difference wrt durability.

Btw great durability you had earlier, with the 5k change period. Could you please throw some light on the process of repacking you used then...

About the life of repacking, initially I used to use only glasswool and that lasted for about 1200kms for me, did about eight of these repackings. Tedious work to keep repacking,

Then I tried ceramic wool like the one mentioned in juris's thread. With ceramic wool the noise seemed pretty much good for about 1800-2000kms ,did many of these too. Tired of the work for repacking I didn't bother to repack the ffe for the past 4000kms , but recently after loosing my baffle and the simultaneous occasion of me being bit by the riding bug again, something had to be done about tht harsh screeching from the ffe

Thing is both glass wool and ceramic wool are mainly for use in static objects and their use in a vibrating environment makes them degrade quite fast and hence the frequent repacking. Recently read about durability of fibre glass wool and luckily I could source some hence gave it a shot, done about 1200kms so far and it still sounds sweet apparently fibre glass wool should last for an eternity but well let's see

I went to some welding shop and got it correct as much as possible but after that I haven't got the performance at par with as it was before.

Well I am pretty much thankful for the Ffe filling info that you shared with me .Maybe I can give it a try.

One query 0- For how long will 1 FFE filling last?

Bro.. it depends on the quality of the glass wool you use for the filling..

If you have not done any packing for the ffe previously, please search the DIY section of the forum. IIRC there is a thread on ffe repacking, follow the same procedure and you will get great results. Once you go through it if you still got any queries do let me know.

I personally used a combi packing of steel mesh, steel wool, glass wool, fibre glass wool, glass wool in the same order and got some great results.

I recently received confirmation from RC that no more db killers are being manufactured, as a matter of fact I was recommended to keep an eye out for a "new ffe with integrated db killer"

Seems like the best way to fix a rs.750 problem is by spending rs.7500 . Way to go RC

Btw: I'll get in touch with you, I got some plans for RC . The more members (plaintiffs) I get , the better

Edit: until you get a db killer or are able to find an alternative to it, might I suggest you try some different kind of packing for the ffe.

Tired sick of the amount of disturbance the loud noise was causing to others, just last week I tried a new ffe packing and it is working great for me now. The horrible treble screech is gone and now I have this nice smooth base like sound from my ffe without any damage to the bikes performance

Definately Rs 750 is not a big amount to loose but definately my trust has been lost in him.I had planned BIG BORE KIT for my fz16 but had to stall that thought due to trust conflict .

Guys if any1 of you have faced this problem then please let me know or if there is some solution to it??
