P.S: Which is why I stick to one fuel bunk and always insist on full tank.
Nope, that is not what 'all you were saying' in your previous post.

      +1;
prajnyan - You're contradicting yourself; you started saying the attendants were working hard & doing monotonous job & your post seemed to be favoring them on the quick bucks they make. Anyways, now you seem to align with the rest of the people here on preventive measures.

I too remain very cautious & NEVER try to be friendly at anyone at the fuel station (except the regular one; damn it, I open a credit account sometimes)

Especially the last point of prajnyan is what everyone HAS to adopt...

Wait till the pump/amount both are set to zero, mention its a card payment, tell them I dont want a oil change or any special offers (many a times bunks dont accept cards). Once I am sure he /she has compiled to these. I open fuel cap for him/her to fill the fuel
Stay cautious or take a ride!!!

Petrol Pump attendant tried to scam me twice today morning!!!!

          1. The guy before me filled 40 bux worth of fuel and the attendant started fueling directly from 40 without resetting meter, Caught him and he immediately offered to decrease 40 bux from the total.
          2. the guy stopped fueling at 150 saying that there was some problem and sent the other guy in the office to turn on some 'switch'. Guy comes back in a minute and the attendant starts filling fuel again. Total comes to 610 but the guy tells me it is 610+150, i tell him that the meter didnt reset after 150 and it continued, He looks over at the owner and the owner says in marathi, 'he was watching'. Maybe he assumed i didnt know marathi. ended up paying 570.

the whole time the other attendant kept asking me questions about my gear trying to distract me. If only had i looked away for 1 minute they would have scammed me.

An attempt was made to scam me of Rs 50 on Karve road petrol pump.
This method of scamming has become the most common and not very easy to detect.
I asked for Rs 200 worth petrol.
The guy very confidently reset the meter and verbally asked me to check zero.
Puts the nozzle in the tank and asks me if I wanted a bill. Now which petrol attendant on his own account asks a customer to take a bill at 9.30 pm?
Being too frequently exposed to such scam attempts I said no (mistakenly looked at him while saying no) and looked at the meter in a split second. The meter reading went straight from 0 to 50 (instead of 0,1,2,3.....) and stopped. Saw it all exactly like it happened. Nothing in between. As far as I have seen when they give a slight nudge to the nozzle lever and leave it immediately it sort of cancels the filling and the meter goes up to 50 instantly when there is no actual petrol being filled.
Then the usual thing started.. He said I told him to fill rs 50 petrol. I said no, I told you to fill Rs200 petrol. Then he says that may be he heard wrong through my helmet. Then I tell him that you have not filled the rs 50 petrol that you claim to and that you cancelled it. He started arguing that how can the meter show the reading unless the petrol is filled? I was so pissed and tired of this gimmick that I pointed angrily at the meter and said fill Rs 200 right now or take me to your manager.
Actual conversation as happened in Marathi " adhicha 50 cha petrol bharla gela nahiye. purna 200 rupayacha petrol bhara ani manager la bolwa (had to repeat this 3 times before he started to fill again). Hya saglya faswayachya ideas ata junya zalyaet."
(translated: The previous 50rs petrol has not been filled. fill Rs 200 petrol now and call your manager. All these ideas of scamming are pretty old and common now.)
Then he obliges, fills 200 rs petrol and then starts to lecture me saying " 50 rupayasathi bhandun tu kay ayushyat motha manus nahi honare. evdha futkal paishyasathi bhandu nako."
(translated: you are not going to become a great personality by arguing over mere rs 50 (even though its mine which he tried to scam me for). Don't fight for rs 50 again)

I was in no mood to argue with that dishonest idiot whose ego was hurt when he got caught and his plan failed. I just shouted at him to shut up ("ae gapp bas") and went home.
Moral of the story: Don't take your eyes off the meter even for a nano second.

                    Well said & done Viper

This way our CBR protects us from these scams because, the nozzle doesn't go inside the tank to hide the flow of fuel; it prevents from going down & the flow of fuel is quite visible.

@viper, same incident happened with me at KASAT petrol pump. That guy actually has manned 3 employees at the filling station to fool you. Chuck our, we can handle, what about ladies? they are fooled easily on such cases.

@ All i wish our bikes had F1 fueling technology where we would precisely know how much liters of fuel has been filled in the tank.

@ Aargee - Same with R15, there is circular panel in between which stops the nozzle from complete dipping inside the tank allowing it to be tip submerged, transfer of fuel can be observed.

Do you mean the petrol pump on karve road just after Nal stop ( going towards deccan)? near kasat sarees? The above experience was at that same petrol pump.

PS: @Eshan Got it. You meant the other one. near karishma complex.

Well, Fill & forget was the last thing in today's bikers mind with all the scams around. Here are a few precautions that I take while quenching my beast thirst.

                          1. Hand over the money at first to the attendant (so no confusion on the amount of petrol to be filled)
                          2. Check whether the correct amount has been entered in the display, entered properly and zero is set initially.
                          3. Then open the lid for filling the petrol.
                          4. Request the attendant to fill it slowly (as the speed at which the petrol is filled will also affect the amount received).
                          5. Check the display at all times for the correct quantity.
                          6. After completion of filling check for final amount.
                          7. Close lid and move on.

                          Till now not been scammed.

P.S - This can be done only in night as there is no much of a traffic as it takes more time and patients. And I fill Only for Rs. 500 at a time.

Smile at everyone you meet and make someone happy.

I always do Tank Full to Tank Full method. This helps me to calculate the mileage of my bike during every fill. And tank full means 13-14liters for me and I pay by HDFC credit card which does not charge fuel surcharge.
By above method, we have to just ensure zero before filling. By this way I do not get cheated.
