  • @Ken da: Please do re-read my post and the very 'interesting' albeit roundabout phrasing of my prior knowledge of 'The flagship phenomenon'

@niks: The very uncommonly found common sense you mean
I don't see too many members nowadays actually thinking up points and then posting.
Good to see that people like Ken da, Satyen, Bandhav, Pranay, Sukant and yourself etc have had enough of the potboiler posts that such threads seem to be attracting and are stepping in to take charge

@sukant: Its 'vicious' man. Ditch the s quick !!

And they don't make money either. To make money, you have to have 125cc. Else even the Ducatis and MVs of this world would become affordable.

If I am not mistaken, you are talking post Feb which is when R15 registers a phenomenal drop and Zma maintains the line.

This bike created a new segment for itself in an existing segment!!! This is a perfect example for Indian companies to follow and this is the route that is required to be taken by Indian companies like Bajaj/TVS before they think of making their own 400/600cc motorcycle or before we demand one from them. R15 is a 150cc sportbike given to the masses! Does it hit the bulls eye, yes! And whether it should have more power or not is a different discussion all together, but what it has done is made common people aware of components related to sportbikes like deltabox frame, link type mono suspension to name a few! Something which Fireblade or Hayabusa didn't achieved even when being so popular because of a simple reason that these are out of reach for most people in India and hence, they don't pay attention to details involved in them! But R15 being available to the masses, has made much wider range of people aware of what a sportbike is like and what is different in them from regular bikes.

Hence, we need products similar to R15 before our Indian companies take a plunge into a higher segment! These guys have lot to learn from what has gone into the development of R15. On the other hand, ZMA and P220 are doing their job quite well!

Quite an apt post had "ZMA" been edited from there...

Anyways, Yamaha has been showing the way since 80s in India...
We had some gem offa machines and i dont even need to mention them...

Followed by Bajaj , because of which, we see bigger companies waking up to feel Indian market...otherwise, honda would have kept us limited to those 4 stroke 97cc 7bhps with millions of colors selling zillions of bikes and we still worshipping them....not for what it has given to India.....but for what they are known in the outside world.......!

See Ken sir, I belive its more to do with how a company might want to percieve its image to be!! I was reading somewhere long time back, about how Nike will never make a Rs1000/- shoe, even if it can.
Cause there is a brand equity associated with them
I guess none of the Europeans make small capacity bikes and I guess they are happy that way. MVs woes are their own managerial doings, but AFAIK Ducati is making healthy profit now a days !! Or at least till the gbobal recession make the mess of it all !!
I might be wrong tho, so pls correct me if I am.

Neways tis is OT here !! Back to speculations and rants !!

                        • @Sukant: The OT's are actually helping to bring some sense into this thread man
And yes, there is one lone flaw as Aprilia does make 125's too which coincidentally will out-price and out-perform all the Indian 'performance' vehicles.

Wrong. They had no other option than launching a very different product which can make its own mark. This was only done because they tried everything for the last 10years and didn't achieved anything from Indian market.

@Kenda-Honda doesn't need to bring anything exciting because they are silent killers. They killed Bajaj in scooter segment. Now they are selling the max in 125cc. Next year they will come with 100cc and HH will see a true competitor.

Just want to know how many here are realistically buying Ninja if its priced at 2.5lakh?

To a certain extent you are right. But Cagiva does have smaller cc (I mean 400cc small! ) And about Nike... after the introduction of the NEP in 90-91 in India and Nike started operations, they did have a INR880 for a number of years. And it is currently at 1200 or less. And every brand did the same thing.

But yes, this is HUGELY OT! Let us continue this on PM or chat.
