Re: Motorcycle speed limit in India

        Good news.
But there are no speed guns or Interceptors on most highways.
The main problem I face is with Interceptors while entering Bangalore every time.
They (and the board) are pretty much hidden. And the limit is 60kmph for 2 wheelers.

Re: Motorcycle speed limit in India

Just few days back I was riding from Banglore to Pune. 13kms before Davangere, Karnataka Police caught me for overspeeding. They had a speed gun. Had paid 300Rs as fine and got receipt. Police were so polite(rare scene in MH). They said the limit for motorcycle is 80kmph but i was doing above 110kmph. Just after that incedence, i stopped at dhaba couple of kms ahead and asked the owner, he said these speed checks are frequent now a days with speed guns. Police are on either side of highway with Patrol Van and most probably near Davangere only.

So guys be careful if you will be riding on NH4 near Davangere.

I do daily ride from Virar to Malad on 6 lane Ahmedabad highway (50kms) and had many heart in the mouth moments on my RE desert storm.
            ORR? did you mean OMR?

Btb I was saying about highways like NH7, NH45. I see speed marks but only at junctions of entry/exits to towns. To be frank I really don't even know if they have a speed limit?

I guess the bangalore airport expressway has the highest possible speed limit. Not sure though.

                Unless mentioned otherwise:
For 2 wheelers, city speed limits (most cities) - 50 kmph, for Bangalore - 40 kmph.
Highways - 80 kmph. Some highways do have 100 kmph limit and they are explicitly mentioned.
Bangalore airport - 50 kmph for bikes.
Many of our riding buddies have been fined for doing 55ish kmph. Above 60 is taboo.[emoji14]

Lol.. As of I know no ring road stuff in chennai. Two popular roads for motor heads & fancy rides are Old mahabalipuram road(OMR) & East cost road (ECR) enroute pondicherry.

:O I thought bangalore airport expressway was 130kmph limit & pune expressway was the next following with 120kmph. But in the latter no motorcycles allowed.

Mysore road - 40 kmph. Mentioned clearly. But yes, few places have 50 kmph limits.

There is an outer ring road in
Chennai, which connects Vandalur to Nazarethpet. The speed limit is 100, and that's where I go every month to do a top speed run.

In september last year, I was fined for doing 3 kmph more near Davanagere while going from Bangalore to Chikkodi.. The police said, "Speed limit is 80 and you were on 83".. I had seen them from far and was slowing down from 88-90 though..

It's the journey that matters, not the destination.
