  • Reviving my trusted ride... pulsar 150 2002

Yes. This thread his going to be about brining back my pulsar to its life.

After selling my dtsi model pulsar a few months back for an Avenger, I was just not able to forget those lovely moments I had with the bike. I contacted the guy to whom I sold it in an effort to get it back but in vain. Seems like he was so fond of the round headlamp model that he refused. I also had plans to get into automobile business and decided to test the possibility of success with my very own bike. That was a biggest mistake... selling off a good 9.yrs old bike with almost new cosmetics and unopened engine.:banghead:

I was able to deal with many bikes after that but somehow I used to envy any pulsar with round headlamp would pass through. Finally decided to get one and keep it with me.

Searches began for the pulsar but none was in reasonable condition. I was horrified to see pulsars in the hands of construction supervisors to transport cement and rubbish. The bikes were abused as much as possible. Most bikes were not worth rebuilding. It was beyond restoration. False advertisements, remodeled and dumped bikes, poorly maintained rides... I was about to give up the sentiment.

Finally, set a deadline of 3days time. Either get the old model pulsar or stop the drama and continue with life.

One fine morning I received a call from a friend about a purple colored pulsar. Called the owner, visited and picked the bike.

It was a 2002 model, single spark model. Even the swing arm was different. Loved the test ride. Felt like I got something back from the past. I knew this would not replace my earlier bike. But still I bought it. Decided to restore it by myself except engine rebuild.

Today, I am at least happy that I was able to save a good bike from becoming extinct.

So there goes the story of reviving my trusted ride.

Here are the starters pictures for pulsar lovers.

Getting angry at somebody is the same as getting angry with a bike that just won't go. You should stop and start thinking.
A good mechanic will let you watch even without charging you for it. |
It is funny to know that we've been imitated and copied so well
and surprising when we notice our mistakes are copied as well.

All the best! I loved the purple Pulsar and its tagline - Definitely Male a lot.

Thank you divya and anuj. This definitely gives that masculine feel I guess. Today's pulsars are fairly good but does not meet the ride quality of those days pulsars.

The engine rebuild is happening now. Not sure if I can click pics of it. For many reasons I have decided to get it done at my local mechanic.

 Agreed. and thanks mate. The work is going on in full josh. It should be done in a day or two.

I have completed painting the hubs and most aluminium parts. Wished it to be powder coated but chose to spray it myself.

It is a stock bore kit. I did not get the original part number. I had to place order and keep bugging a dealer here to get an alternate which is similar. The same is the case with idle balancer gear. The parts are not available. But I know I can get through by ways.

Good to know: The part number is DH101015 but it is no more in production. I managed to get an alternate as suggested by spares manager who literally got rid of me after giving details.

Meanwhile I thought of cleaning the carb. I do not want to post the pic of its whole assembly. It was all #&^#&)(?@ up.
                      Here are the pictures.

Seriously you could see the amount of rust that came out. I also had to use sandpaper to scrap out some of rust. I guess I will do it again with thinner probably later.
