One option for the fiero is to switch to smaller rear drum like 110mm instead of 130mm if it is possible. An AX uses 110mm drums both front and rear, and the originals weighs very little.

Hmm.. I was thinking about removing the rear disc from My R15. I just dont use it anyways, then whats the use having some unsprung dead weight?

He he he ok just notice my rear drum carefully. I am already using the 110mm rear drum and that too machined ones which are way lighter than the stock drum set. It probably weighs only about half of the stock drum AX drum. I've sought everything on this bike manOriginally posted by _keerthy View PostOne option for the fiero is to switch to smaller rear drum like 110mm instead of 130mm if it is possible. . No stone is left un-turned almost!
@Arun - Menace? Thats just a 175cc version of the RTR. Basically an RTR with the stroke length(57.8mm) of the Fiero. My Fiero 200 was based on the same 57.8mm stroke with a much bigger piston and a big valve set-up. The menace is nothing.
On my Fiero 165, I now have a short stroke crank mated to a slightly bigger piston than a stock RTR. Which means the bore/stroke ratio is different from a stock RTR engine. Hence making it more revvy and more efficient.
Ya man, I did come to trichur but had to hurry back home. This was in Jan but. not dec

I'm running a DC powered CDI which needs a good 2.5AH battery to run. I am not running a charging circuit either. No capacitor even, hence a battery is mandatory.sigpic

So if you have dropped all the weight you can from the bike, you have only one thing to do.
Youve gotta get yourself lightened up like me. LOL.... Then at some fast corner, you will go black out. LOL again!!!
Anyways, a great bike you have built, a big bow to you. Are you using 17" wheels? Next up R15 spec tires? And how about putting your bikee in the Ucal Group B just to see how the factory bikes do.

Joel bhai you really need to get to mumbai if possible for our drags. I know, i know, not that worth it, but either that, or I would have to make a really convincing excuse for going to bangalore. You need to get coverage bro! As in media coverage. Or maybe team up with "Tomo-moto" and help him out in his entrepreneurial ambitions!! Seriously, you two could start your own bike firm even!10 Commandments:

5)Always wear safety gear.
6)Alcohol is a strict NO!
7)Thou may lust after thy neighbour's bike specially if its of the R1 kind!
8)Thou shalt ride with 'ultra-most' care and caution when on Indian roads.

10)Thou shalt follow all of the above.

+1
I was about to say thanz to 46wannabe, been going through your post Joel, Hats off awesome work there, by the way what the hell are you doing here??
you should be working in Yamaha or TVS R&D department - turn your passion to your occupation u will reach miles in ur career.
i am sure by now you must have exploited the R15 engine in and out too, do you think it has any scope for mod, can anymore power-juice can be extracted from it??

@Winzee - I didnt get to see the timing and stuff myself. Got to know that it was a total 16sec run and it was the fastest 4-stroke of the day. Most of the 2-strokes that day we doing 16 odd and early 17s. The track somehow had a 150mtrs incline which was killing the momentum higer thru the gears.
BTW I didnt even launch the bike coz I had a jittery clutch and was somehow not feeling linear. If only I could pull a clean 9k launch atleast, it would have instantly shed 0.5secs atleast and reached the 15s territory.
Compression was really low and many other issues meant that I couldnt do anything radical. Still I was 1.5secs faster than the guy who came 2nd,i.e a drag built CBZ from bangalore.
@Keerthy - Yes those are 17" wheels. I can use the R15 bubber if needed too.
No man, a drag bike is not like a Group B track bike. The powerband is different to suit a track bike need, although I will hit the track for fun for sure.
Then again more than the bike, its the riding that matters and I know how fast those experienced buggers are.
@46wannabe - Ya man I might come for the Mumbai episode in April, however I'll be there for the drag in pune next month with the Fiero.
Hmmmm, lets see where things go man. I have no clue trust me
@shadowboy - Thanks man, lets see how things work out
I have indeed looked into my R15 engine. I had a few plans up my sleeve. but I'm so engrossed with my Fiero that my R15 has not even recieved a wash or a service since 2 months now. Ya, there is a good scope on the R15, but a few downsides as well.Last edited by Joel; 02-12-2009, 03:49 PM.sigpic

Joel... whoa. Having fun with the drilling machine I see
Bro, this is seriously awesome stuff. How about if most of us took up this kind of hands on engineering, instead of simply bickering about Manufacturers not giving us more powerful bikes? Well, then you wouldn't be so damned special
It takes loads of passion, sweat, blood ( should I mention beer?) and not to forget, discipline to put your heart and soul into something like this. Hats off to you for that. Good luck with everything you do.
PS: I'm not gonna bug you to teach us about cam lift, valve springs et all, but I surely wanna know how does one keep going when everybody around you is trying to pull you down?Riot Engine |Norton WD 16H | BSA C11G |Enfield Fury
Thanks to Mr. Muthukumar, B&QRest Garage for these acquaintances!

I have had my own set of hurdles all through this project for the past 4 yrs. I'm really serious about what I'm doing and hence I will do my stuff come what. I have been pulled down, mocked and even laughed at but the same souls have greater respect towards me now. Its just a matter of tuning your mind to your goals
I still have a lot of plans for this bike, which will come to reality in some time.sigpic
