If I remember it right, that V Twin belongs to Mr Venu Gopal (EngineHacker) I guess!

Joel was involved in the V-twin 300 Fiero too. Its Venu sir and he who gave us the 300 twin
Was lucky to have witnessed the monster in action. It blew the socks off the GIR comet while blasting down MG road on one wheel for most part of the drag !

guys, lets keep the OT away.
The v-twin is an older project and the talks will lead elsewhere.

Got hold of an Autometer AFR guage from Venu and the O2 sensor from a Honda City. I have installed the O2 on the pipe and the wiring is to be completed. Was on a hunt to get a Flatslide 28-30mm carb but no luck could not find good ones. I have a Mikuni TM28 in mind, hope I can get hold of one. Somehow the Mikuni carbs have a better jetting number and somehow less hassle to tune than a Keihin flat.
So this weekend, I'll run the engine with the same BS29 CV. Lets see what the results are.

Joel what happen about the other Tm 28 you were talking about yesterday did you lay your hands on it.

^Gotta check with that fellow man. Need to finally check if its 28 or 30mm and then decide. Like I told you a proper flatslide makes more sense than a D-slide and an oval one. I always prefer a Mikuni over a Keihin.

                    • hello Joel,

I have been a avid reader of this thread and its old avatar.

Frankly most of the 'details' are waaaay over my head but i do understand the amount of effort and time gone into each and every inch on that beautiful fiero.

Actually we have met once on the evening the GIR team had come ,in front off their apartment , you had come in a R15.

I sure would like to be present for your speed runs and actually interact with you and get some gyaan into my head .

                      • ^Ya man, sure no probs. I will update the thread if I'm going for the speed check this sunday.
                        A few updates -
Had an off yesterday due to the famous elections, so used the entire day to my fullest to complete works on the Fiero. Assembled the engine, mounted back all the bits and then installed the O2 sensor on the primary pipe.
Made a new mount for the Autometer AFR guage and sorted the electricals. All the wiring looks like some factory work with couplers complementing each ends of the circuit. Connected the battery and cranked the engine to see the AFR guage working perfectly. Revved the engine in a small twist till 12k and the mixture seemed rich. Will need to correct the fuelling during my test runs. Will need to get to stoich.
I'm now wondering if that puny 2.5AH 12V battery can do all the functions, coz it now has to run the CDI + coil, a tachometer, O2 sensor and the AFR meter. Else will shov a 3.5AH or a 5AH battery. Thing is that there is no charging circuit from the engine and the battery is stand alone. The batteries will have to be swapped, every 15-20 mins of engine operation. So a back-up battery HAS to be in place.

After the engine was installed, and due to the now tuned intake port, the carb was sitting way off its normal place and the fuel tank was in contact with the carb. Dented the bottom of the tank, but still needs room. So the bottom will have to be crafted and nearly 1 inch of space cleared for the carb. As it is, the carb is now in contact with the main beam on the frame and is tilted by a few degrees.
I'm just eager to test the bike on sunday and see what its capable of this time.

                        Joel

                          • So the speedtest update.
The bike was carried across to the outskirts for a speedcheck and a few changes in my schedule meant that I could not really inform a lot of people.
Left home really late and headed to my usual spot 70km away from bangalore.
The AFR meter was showing the right outputs after warming up the engine. A little later the battery was draining a quicker than normal. The puny 2.5AH battery like I expected was being taxed by providing power to the tacho, CDi, coil, AFR meter and the o2 sensor. Being a standalone system, it could not hold anymore.
So after one run, the engine still had mild knocks and the AFR meter gave me the mixture reading. So disconnected the O2 sensor to save some power and swapped the battery to a fully charged one. Now the CDI was getting better supply and soon the engine responded better.
made a few set-up changes and instantly the bike recorded a 127kmph exit speed in just about 400mtrs with a lazy launch.
And we decided to time the bike as well.
Of the next few runs the bike clocked 130kmph with a decent launch.
During the timing runs, the bike was successful at cracking the 15 sec barrier and with a lot more work pending, I can now focus on getting into a 14 flat or atleast an early 14.
The engine was still knocking after a few runs and the damn aviation fuel is still not in my reach. If only I could gun the throttle all the time, things will get hotter.
So the engine now needs, a better carb (the damn BS29 is still there which is too conservative for an aggressive power delivery), better fuel and a few more tweeks to get into the next level. The ignition is still stock and I'm waiting for my engine management system. Things will turn spicy then.
Overall, I'm happy that it cracked the 15 sec barrier with all these constraints.
Pics will come in shortly with a video as well.

                            Cheers,
                            Joel
