    What is a legend...?

Apart from RDs, Yezdis,Jawas and RXs (i mean all two strokers),

all 4 strokers are more or less same....in legendary status or whatever you call it as....!

I have ridden more than 1 lakh 30 thousand kilometers on my 2 150cc pulsars till date...and they have been two of the most fulfilling experiences of my life....

I own a June 2002 model Pulsar classic 150, which has covered around 75k kms with sheer aplomb and I still love its feel more than any other bike in the country....! It would have completed its 1 lakh mark but the only irony is the fact that for the past 1- 1 and half years its just standing back at my hometown and this no usage has affected its health badly.....! But still I do not intend to sell her....

Second, I own a 2005 Pulsar UG2 150 here in Pune which has covered around 55k kms and never ever had a single engine related problem....and still runs with enough grunt to instill that lovely feeling....

Moreover, I am planning to upgrade, and in all probablity my next bike would be again a Bajaj....!

I mentioned my examples, just to cite that there are people who try to defame Bajaj because of no reason what so ever....and majority of them do not even without owning a bajaj try to form opinions about the bike or the company....!

There is no hiding from the fact that ther are certain areas where Bajaj is a laggard and they must improve upon those grey areas asap....!

For me, my bikes will always remain my legends....with the way they have served me without even a single hitch......

Otherwise, there is no other bike which should be named beside RD350 if legend is literally talked about....!
    2002 - Pulsar 150 Classic (Still owned)
    2005 - Pulsar 150 Dtsi (Still owned)
    2006 - Eterno (sold)
    2008 - Dio (Owned)
    2009 - Pulsar 220 DTSi

i think this is the only time i have picked up something useful from BSMotoring. i can't remember which product review it was though.

the guy basically said that the pulsar was a platform, built to accomodate various configurations for various end products, while the R15 was a motorbike, pure and simple, built with a singular purpose.

and i think that makes all the difference in how the product performs.

thats the reason i believe, the RXs are legends, while the pulsar is doubtful of earning that tag. also why the r15 will probably earn that tag in,say, a decade.
There once was a woman who was quite begat.
She had three babies named Nat, Pat, and Tat.
She said it was fun in the breeding,
But found it was hell in the feeding
When she saw there was no tit for Tat.

Very interesting thread. Was nice to see some logical arguments. In my opinion, as far as the present bikes are concerned, Bajaj bikes can never be legends.

Who knows, maybe 15years later we will remember the new 220 - "Remember the 220 carb that blew the competition away with the fastest indian title " or " remember the 150cc bike from yamaha that put big bikes to shame".
For now, none of these bikes can be called legends. Let the time come.

Get over with "Pulsar" as an idea...

Well this is an interesting topic for sure by L.P.
Why Bajaj is not able to get the critically acclaimed stature of a legend is the poor marketing and product cycle understanding of the R&D wing of Bajaj. I see a few miss outs by the Bajaj's management that made them miss the mark of the legendary bikes stable.

Example: Yamaha discontinuing RX100 at its peak leaving the crowd craving for more. Thus a craze was created to own one even now. Though they knew the machine was good enough to hold for a few decades without a problem. Thus it reached a cult status among fans.

In Bajaj, if we look in our own threads, the old model of P150 and P180 are still considered as killer with the round headlights. People suggest others with old pulsars for not changing the headlights as it gives a manly look. This is nothing but the making of the legend.

If similar suggestions start flowing for the stock carbs, shocks, silencers and clutch plates, then we can be sure that the product has longevity of sorts that can make it a legend.

Taking on the competition with a new machine, with a balanced Torque ratio and sporty looks is a must... and discontinue Pulsar in coming couple of years, but keep the market full of parts for them.... and 5-6 years further down Pulsar would get a similar status as a RX100.

I can write pages for the corporate strategy but I guess people got what I wanted to say...

In my opinion bajaj never intended to make a legendary bike, all this while they have been doing one thing andthey have been doing it well in my opinion amd that is putting people on bikes! They give a product which is not usually top of the line but the price they give it for is usually a good deal and they cannot be criticized for the same..Their scooters were a legend though, truly changed the way urban indians moved from point A to B.

                Probably,few years down the line.......

                  Legend .......

A legend is an old man with a cane known for what he used to do. I'm still doing it.
The only way you can become a legend is in your coffin.
Legend: A lie that has attained the dignity of age.

so maybe thats why Bajaj bikes are not legend ....... but Chetak n M80 surely are legend.......

For me the legends in India are . (Keep the RE's apart)

                    1. Chetak. It's a legend.. No question about it.
                    2. RD 350. New Fastest Indian can never match the "TRUE FASTEST INDIAN"
                    3. RX 100, Reliable, fast, light weight, touched our pappa's heart now touching our heart. Finally ever increasing resale prices (Jumped from 13k to 20K within 2 or 3 yrs time for a good one, at least in my place).
                    4. CD 100, the thing that promoted 4 strokes here. later the Splendor came, BTW it's too a legend. The largest sold/selling bike in the country/world and one of the expensive among the used bikes (remember it's a 100 c commuter).
5.CBZ classic (scaled HONDA CBX200)- The bike that started the modern era of performance bikes in India. Good looking old Honda.

                    6. PULSAR 150/180 CLASSIC- When they launched, they served the masses. Out shined the Legend (CBZ) by it's VFR and performance. I thought this is gonna be a legend. But it's now 7 yrs gone. Where are the gud old Pulsars?? I could hardly find a good looking/running one with their proud owners. All the others are in pretty bad shape. Some of them are waiting for a new owner at a used bike showroom for prices less than a used RX or Splendor. Shame!!.. When launched back in 2002 it was a hit with it's radical styling, performance, pricing etc. but now it's gone. How many of you prefer a used pulsar??

When BAL upgraded the P series again they served masses with it's VFM, efficiency and techno gizmos.. .But I'm sure that a large number of the Pulsar owners are Posers and college students, who dont know anything about bikes. .
They bought the pulsars for showing off themselves (The P series might be holding the record of having the most number of accidents with youngsters and having the most pathetic mod jobs in India). BAL's attractive financial options helped them much. I personally know many of them. Including my friends.

I'm not saying that Pulsars are bad bikes. of course they are good bikes, great performance great VFM. But it should last for years. If so, it'll be considered as a legend.

SO FOR ME PULSARS ARE NOT A LEGEND and WILL NEVER BE ONE..
hence my 6th legend is not a Pulsar.
                    6. KARIZMA- launched way back in 2002-2003. Still the same. I dont have words. This is a Legend.

7.R15 - Upcoming legend ...lol... This is gonna be a legend. No it's a legend.

Finally --- I get more respect on a ZMA/RX/CBZ rather than a Pulsar....

If you think majority of pulsar owners are posers I invite you to come down to where I live and look around on the roads and tell me what you see. Here you will see more posers riding ZMAs R15's and even RX/RDs

So should I say these bikes have lost all the reputation because the posers bought them?

Saying that pulsars never will become legends just because so posers bought them and even had accidents??not at all done...

The so called attractive finance options are even available for ZMAs and R15s.. and you can very well spot posers riding these too..

Heck I have seen ZMAs and RDs being sold for prices lesser than pulsars in one store. so you cannot judge the bike by its resale value..
