Tata Nano Launched - Will it hurt Bikes?
Recently in a conference Ratan Tata informed that the Nano would be available for booking from 9th of April and the deliveries of this car will start from July 1 and as all of u know this car will be having a starting price of 1 lakh Rupees. So do u think that the Indian dream of a man to own a car will take the place of bikes or do u think that people will stick on to the old and better INDIAN bikes,Who will win?THE ROAD TO SUCCESS IS ALWAYS UNDER

It will, for sure hit the bike market, especially people who could not afford a four-wheeler because they were out of budget. Now, with the introduction of Nano, that segment of the society would surely look forward to getting the Tata Nano.
I recently saw in the news channel how satisfied and happy certain section of the society was that Nano is launched. They were absolutely sure that now, instead of getting a motorcycle, they would go ahead and get a Tata Nano!
But, the initial waiting period for getting the Nano would test one's patience to the maximum extent...
P.S:
I am, however looking forward for the Ninja 250R's launch!

Either ways its gonna be bad for B'lore traffic.Originally posted by prabhubravo View Postwell I felt it will replace the autos..
a new auto costs 1.5L apprx
so they might prefer a 'car' to an auto
Too many factors go into this. People who will prefer to zip through traffic might buy bikes while those who are content to sit in traffic and travel comfortably will go for Nano. Though families are sure to go for Nano. Mileage is another important factor. Tata's after sales service(for a huge number of cars! Indica, sumo and now Nano) Nothing can be predicted.

People riding bikes for passion will continue to buy and ride bikes. People buying bikes for commute will shift to a NANO. As long as people who are willing to pay 1L - 10L for a bike are present, there is no dearth for the two - wheeler market.
On the other hand, I think this might be kind of a turning-point to the 2-wheeler market(IF the NANO is a success). Think about it. The CD100/Splendor etc might take a beating as people would prefer a car. In that sense there might be more higher-capacity bikes targeting bikers instead of the general aam-aadmi.
@Aryan: Am waiting for a 600!!
P.S: Am not sure of the success/viability of NANO in a crowded city like Bangalore where even walking at peak hours is tough!Democracy is when 2 wolves and a sheep meet to decide who is for dinner. Liberty is when the sheep has a gun.

on the plus side now the bike will get a biker , rather than those who bought a bike to go from A to B cause they could not afford to buy a car, bikes will get treated better as they would have owner who really want them
on the sales side impact on the market should be that huge cause most such people go for the 100-125 cc ~ 40K bike to switch to 1.2 lac on road is still quite a jump.

Im more interested if this spells the end for lower capacity bikes i.e <150cc?? What will happen to the the No.1 spot held by HH thanks to its Passion, splendour etc sales? Or for that matter all the other bike manufacturers.
I hope to see a bridge among serious motorcycle enthusiasts and point-to-point commuters. Nano can do that.
Guys think about the 2nd car market. That's surely gonna get devastated.
