Whatever.. Now a days students talk about long drives .. The days of long rides are over. At least in engg colleges thats the trend .. No that a cheap car is available atleast they wont be buying bikes... And posers will definitely switch to cars... they constitute a big chunk of bike customers..

Man, they will crate panic out on the streets ... no of crashes will go up by leaps and bounds ... think of the rash driving that exists today ..
Long back I tried to post a thread named " To hell with Tana Nano" in xBhp... some moderator didnt allow it ... no issues ... but i hate the F*****G TATA NANO .. the roads will be more crowded now .. I JUST HATE IT ...

I don't think that nano will effect maket of bike as--
A normal bike which an Indian use that mostly 100cc one which give an average of around 60-70 or if 150cc then it give around 45 -55 but nano give an average of 20 that is a big difference !!!! as normal who suppose to ride bike for (average ) will never go for it
The price of nano is around RS 1,20,000 . where is a bike starts with RS 38000. so a normal person who suppose to go office daily on bike can not replace it by car!!!! I think so!!!!!life starts at 0 bhp and ends with xbhp

@Jayprashanth : The nano will boast of a 100cc and One cylinder advantage over your bull man. Your bull might develop ego issues
On a serious note, don't underestimate Tata build quality man. People who've met with major accidents in Indicas and walked out with minor injuries swear by the structural integrity of that machine.
Hence, Im guessing that the Nano might even trump the M800/Alto in terms of crash worthiness...
As pranay has speculated, im of the opinion that in a couple of months when the Nano's start hitting the streets, we're gonna see a downward pricing trend in the second hand market.
That will be our cue to strike a good deal on a nice mid-size sedan like an Accent

Maverick,
By quality levels I didn't mean the build only man. There are a lot of things, especially in the engine-transmission department that Tata motors needs to improve. Indicas are very hardy, and they go on and on but the issue is they make a huge racket and make you look like a tractor driver. Also, the electricals go kaput often and people have even gone to the extent of calling the Indica a Ragi machine(thresher)
. By the way, I am riding a tractor already. Shouldn't be complaining
, but IMHO four wheels should sound like four wheels. We aren't looking for attention on/in a Nano are we? I'm just hoping the Tata manages to induce reliability and sustain decent quality levels. We don't want a V2 version like the Indica too soon, do we?

Its true that that the Indica has some NVH issues. Im pretty sure that the nano may suffer from the same.
But, at the price its being offered, it looks like Adolf Hitler's dream all over again. Watch out VW Beetle, India's TATA is coming to town !I'm normally not a praying man, but if you're up there, please save me Superman.

I hold the opposite views. Being an engineering student who has spent a lot of time visiting lots of college for academics/presentations/brawls and .....uhm...*koff* *koff*
reasons,I can confidently say that bikes still hold the same place as they did in the times of the ZMA/CBZ. Expensive bikes that is.Most of the students from well to do families that I talk to,still prefer a P220/P200/RTR Fi/ZMA over say a cheap car. Even I would go for a bigger bike over a car.
That's wherein lies the point,an expensive bike has the bling-bling/economic superiority than a car in that price range (there's none at present). Better (or worse) still, the fairer sex seems to be more inclined to bikers because the sense of freedom, that the bike gives you,is as dominant in them as in us. Ask any girl around you and most of them would jump at the chance of riding a bike or getting a ride on one.
Here's a question:How would you like to be perceived in the college: that dude owning a classy R15 or some dude who has the cheapest car in the market i.e. Nano?
The answer will probably explain you the point I am trying to make.Last edited by nightwing; 04-05-2009, 03:02 AM.sigpic

2-3 days back i met a senior executive who was mulling to buy a Nano for his son and daughter. He said that his children are forcing him to buy two-wheelers but he has seen how students get rash with the bikes, at least in the Nano they will be a bit safer. In the end, it's the parents who will be paying for the vehicles(almost) and the sole decision lies with them.I guess there would be thousands of similar-thinking parents out there.

I agree with you on the TATA build quality issue. Interiors might be tacky, but there is a reason people prefer Indica/SUMO on the highways. They are well built for their price. Safety standards are good.
I totally agree with you on this one. And with statements like "bikes are unsafe" and "2 wheelers will get you killed" going around more and more, I am not surprised.Originally posted by chicane1879 View Post2-3 days back i met a senior executive who was mulling to buy a Nano for his son and daughter. He said that his children are forcing him to buy two-wheelers but he has seen how students get rash with the bikes, at least in the Nano they will be a bit safer. In the end, it's the parents who will be paying for the vehicles(almost) and the sole decision lies with them.I guess there would be thousands of similar-thinking parents out there.DoN\'t LivE tO DiE, dIe tO LiVe

Now... do you think colleges will have that much parking space?? I won't be amazed if there would be a no-Nano or no-Car to college rule..Originally posted by deepmetal View PostNano will definitely be a HIT amongst college goers ...
