Re: Bike transfer from Ahmedabad to Mumbai

    Hi,

I will be shifting to Mumbai from Noida in January. I have a CBR150r purchased last year on Finance by HDFC. I would like to transfer the bike to Mumbai. What are the steps that i need to follow to get it re-registered in Mumbai and is there any steps i need to take care of as the vehicle is hypothecated to HDFC.

    Regards,
    Akash Dhenki

Can anyone suggest something on the second question I had , that if I have to drive it back to Ahmedabad would there be any problem at the border as someone told me at border they register the numbers of the vehicles travelling and have a record and my bike has been here since july. So , would there be any problem or would any one stop me at the border? (haven't travelled across states in my own vehicle as yet so a bit confused)
Yes, don't worry. You can cross the border without any issues. Your case is 100% legal as i told before that you are free to ride your bike in Mumbai upto 1 year with same GJ reg mark.

    My personal experience:
I had travelled four times on my bike (reg GJ06) to Maharashtra within a year. They dont harass the two-wheelers. Moreover, Traffic polic guys are very strict there. Youngsters like college boys are their favourite targets. I didn't pay any fine though my bike was GJ06. So, this is how i convinced them.

So, if they interrogate you just tell them you were in Mumbai for 3 months and going back.

Have a happy and safe journey.

They say that in thane tax pay or transfer of bikes from out of the state is not allowed. I have already contacted around 15 agents and asked one of my uncle for help. But I am not getting any help. If I am not able to get the taxes payed here I would have to take my back to Ahmedabad and sell it. In case I have to take my bike back and I want to drive it back would there be problems at the border ?? As I brought it here through packers and movers and its been more then 3 months and I am not able to drive it even here. Please someone from Mumbai or Thane help me out.

I am planning to shift my Ninja 250r from chennai to kerala(thrissur) for a period of ONE year only.
You can drive your own private vehicle in other state upto a period of one year only(not exceeding that)(refer Motor vehicles act,1988)(google mva1988.pdf). It means you dont require a new reg mark.
This means I don't have to get an NOC from Chennai RTO right?
NOC is required at the time of reregistration with another state. If you purchased your bike through bank loans then you may need to get NOC from your bank.
I just have to bring the bike to kerala and pay the tax at the Thrissur RTO for a year.
There is no such thing to pay tax for one year only as far as i know. It will be very expensive to pay tax for lifetime.
This will ensure I am not harassed by the police.. correct?
    Always carry:
    License
    RC book/smartcard
True copy of your insurance policy
    PUC

Before leaving your hometown get a valid photo PUC done(its proof of your vehicle present at your hometown on that date)

When asked by traffice police, convince them that you are going to stay only for 6months.

Your number font on number plate should follow RTO rules.

You should be the owner of your vehicle.

Please correct me if anything is wrong.
Also what is the amount of tax for one year? Its 2011 model vehicle.

    Thanx
    Answered in bolds.
Personal experience: I used my bike in maharashtra (registered in Gujarat) for 11 months.
I hope this would be clear.
