Vickks - You need to learn a lot of things from xBhp; all your questions are more of fantasy than reality!!! Temp registration is only possible with vehicles that are just out of showroom/vehicles yet to be registered.Originally posted by vickks View Post

Okay!Originally posted by aargee View PostNot possible
Just now read your post saying 6 months validity of NOC. An agent tried to fool me!Mislead information
What if I de-register it now and take a temporary registration? I don't want 10k go down in drain!Initiate the process & probably your children or grandson will receive on normal course.
Also is there any insurance complexities involved?Last edited by vickks; 04-25-2012, 02:19 PM.

Not possibleIs there a way to keep the KA mark, but change the address to that of Guwahati?
Mislead informationAm filing for the NOC in coming days but heard that NOC is valid only for 7 days?
Initiate the process & probably your children or grandson will receive on normal course. Also, I can get 85% refund of road tax paid in Karnataka, equal to 9.7k. Any clue how this refund process is to be initiated and the time taken to receive the amount?

^^^ vickks - not worth it; all the stated possibilities are more of nuisance & headache than what's on papers.

I will be taking my 1 year 2 months old P220, registered in Mysore, Karnataka to Guwahati, Assam permanently after 2 months. Is there a way to keep the KA mark, but change the address to that of Guwahati? Am filing for the NOC in coming days but heard that NOC is valid only for 7 days? Even if I get it on the day of journey, 6 days would be gone riding! Also, I can get 85% refund of road tax paid in Karnataka, equal to 9.7k. Any clue how this refund process is to be initiated and the time taken to receive the amount?

Its the other way around. First you have to pay tax (even before that apply for change of address) and within 11 months apply for re-registration.Originally posted by Abhijeet Bhattacharjee View Post1. IIRC, you cannot just pay the tax without re-registering, you have to register it according to the Motor Vehicle Act.
@OP: LTT came upto Rs.2490 for my 2002 registered RX135.

1. IIRC, you cannot just pay the tax without re-registering, you have to register it according to the Motor Vehicle Act.
2. One year (I'm sure about it)
3. For 1 year delay, there's a penalty of 50% excess road-tax amount.
4. Yup, but not in KN but in WB, and it surely is not good .
5. 7~8%

Since you already have the NOC with you i suggest go ahead with the redg and get it over with. Also, consider your stay in Bangalore, if its going to bee for more than 3 years to say i suggest you should re-redg the bike.
The Jayanagar 4th block RTO has been shifted just above the bus-stand and its on the 3rd or 4th floor (not sure).Check with them if the vehicle can be redg there. IMO there should not be a problem if incase "Indranagar" is mentioned on the NOC.
You ca drive the vehicle for 11 months with out having it re-redg, but please ensure you carry valid proofs. Maybe the transport copy - train, pvt carrier, etc. or the toll fees paid (incase you rode the bike to Bangalore)
All of this is only an advice, the decision is all yours. But let me warn you the taxes are pretty high here and can cost about 11.5 to 12% of the ex-showroom price.
P.S please have a copy of the original invoice for the bike purchased. Helps in calculating the road-tax if not available the RTO will simply charge the road-tax based on the current value of the bike.

You have to obtain Karnataka number (re-register) if you are staying here for more than a year. More details here: Transport Department
Tax is calculation is also available in the same website as a MS-Word document.
P.S That said, you can ride the bike without going through this. Cops don't stop for 'routine checking' like they used to earlier. If you break a signal or caught riding on the wrongside, etc then you are in trouble.Last edited by NitinGirish; 04-24-2012, 12:02 PM.

Q: Where do you want to sell your bike once you decide to sell it? Based on that you need to decide what to doOriginally posted by anas17in View Post1. Can I really keep the bike for above one Year by just paying the road tax for karnataka?
2. What is the validity of NOC issued by Police and RTO?
3. What if "now" I just pay the road tax, and after one year I apply for re-registration? Will there be any fine/penalty for that?
4. Does anyone have experience of keeping bike with other state reg no. and handling the cops in Karnataka?
5. How is the road tax calculated in Karnataka? What is the %?
I've been riding a TN bike in BLR for almost 4 years now.
- Re-registration not needed (only if you want to sell your bike in BLR)
- NOC not needed (only needed If you re-register here in BLR)
- Life Time Road Tax (pay only after you have spent 11 months in the state)
- Cops issues, a few years back there was harassment for outside state vehicles. That has not happened in the last 2.5 years. But off-late its on the rise again. But I am yet to be stopped for out of state vehicle.
My advice, just ride. If you are caught 2-3 times for Road Tax only then decide to pay.
But yea its illegal to ride without paying tax post 11 months of entry into the state. So ride/drive at your own risk.
I have a TN registered bike in BLR for last 4 years and a MH registered car for 2 years....I refuse to pay the tax for the simple reason that I find the system to be flawed and don't believe that my money for the tax is going to be used for anything good anyways. The RTO guys are just out to fleece the public!
I still wait for the day for a unified taxation structure across the country! Feels like I am living in different countries when moving between states!Last edited by Praful; 04-24-2012, 11:30 AM.

Considering present Bangalore, yes, but that is until you get involved in any incident.Originally posted by anas17in View PostOne of the agent at Indira Nagar RTO...the bike without any problem

Re-Registration or Just pay Road-Tax?
Hello friends,
I have a query. Recently I shifted from Bhadohi (Uttar Pradesh) to Bangalore (Karnataka). So, I decided to bring my bike along with me. Now problem is I have to do something to legally run the bike in Bangalore since I have a UP registration. I got the NOC(Form-28) for Indira Nagar. But I stay in BTM which comes under Jayanagar RTO. So there is problem of address proof.
One of the agent at Indira Nagar RTO told that there is no need of Re-Registration, but just pay the Life time road tax of Karnataka and ride the bike without any problem.
But I know that if the bike is to be kept for more than one year in Karnataka, I have to get it Re-Registered. Now, I am very confused. Here are my questions:

Like I said in my first post. Its not the re-registration that is important. Its that the bike is 15 years old. Its registration life will expire this year. So how do I go about it?Originally posted by pulsater View Postwhy you even wanna re-register it? You can ride a delhi registered bike all around whole NCR without any fuzz from cops, if you have complete papers (license, RC, PC and insurance.)
I am riding my Lucknow R-15 here in Delhi and Gurgaon which is on my friends name. I have all the papers (ofcourse on his name) but never had a problem with cops.
I have no problems continuing with the bike in the original owners name.
