Inter-State Bike Transfer Thread

Hi guys,
I just moved to Chennai 3 months back and i have brought my bike (registered in Kerala) here. The police are troubling me a lot here , since the bike is registered in Kerala.
While on my trip to Pondicherry a cop stopped me and asked for NOC , registration & licence (all orginal documents), but since i had all three he let me go.
But yesterday even though i had originals of NOC, RC book, insurance & driving licence he was insisting me to get an NOC from the RTO in Kerala & then get it filed here & had to bribe Rs.200 him to let me go. He was saying I only had an NOC from my local police office in Kerala which wasn't enough.
So my question is what all documents (originals or attested copy - please specify) should i carry while i am riding my bike inside Chennai city so that the police won't be able to trouble me & issue a fine.

Other than getting bike re-registered in Tamil Nadu what options do i have left ?

The best thing to do is to see to it that the first owner renews the bikes registration, then get an noc with the sale deed and the relevant forms filled up submit them in the bangalore RTA and have the peace of mind.

Hi Guys, Need a help.Am planning to buy a bike from thane but I live in Pune.So what are the costs involved in transfer of ownership (apart from the regular transfer charges) for a bike previously registered in Thane (MH04) to Pune (MH14) ? Would it pose any legal problem for me to regularly ride the Thane regd bike in Pune? Let me know. Thanks

As far as I know, You would need to pay the road tax again only if you are taking the bike to another state. if your papers are clean and you have a valid insurance and PUC there is no need to worry about using a Bike from anywhere in Maharastra to be used in another place in Maharastra even without a transfer.

MH RTO allowed out of state vehicles without paying road tax for 11 months. I no longer have any out of state vehicles so don;t know updated rules.

My 220 is of UP registration.
I don't have any NOC.
Each time they ask me for NOC only (I usually stop if the ask :/)
I told them I'm here for a limited period of months so why should I bring NOC, but No. They don't wanna hear anything just NOC or Bribe or they threat of making 2000rs of slip & my bike will be taken and I have to take it back from Court. :/

Now I don't go out during daytime and in night I don't stop to them

You'll need to talk to RTO guys for the exact amount. There shouldn't be any problem as such if all the papers are clean.

But that's the point, allowing is different from what the law actually dictates. In our country, the enforcers more often than not, also become the law makers themselves. That being said, I hope you know that road tax is indeed refundable. I am referring to an older post of yours. But since, we have to deal with the government offices, there is little or no hope that the money will ever see the light of day. So your statement is as good as true, but not entirely. I hope you don't feel I am nit picking.

Actually I knew that bit, but in the end he will lose more money considering the time he spends in the RTO for the refund that it doesn't matter anyways.

Sorry, but that's wrong information. Technically, you are required to pay the road tax as soon as you start using the roads in another state (atleast in Karnata). To clear any confusion, let me explain the process. You donot need an NOC, unless you are transferring ownership of the vehicle or re-registering the vehicle. If you apply for an NOC, it is valid for 11 months, but post that, your registration is suspended. That is, your vehicle is no longer part of the books in the originating state. It is imperative that you obtain a new registration in the migrating state before this period. If it is for a short time like in your case, "as per the law" you are only required to pay the road tax and be done with it. But as someone who has been riding a TN registered bike in Bangalore, don't bother yourself with all this. The system is too crooked to work as it is supposed to. If you are transporting your vehicle, just keep the transportation chalaan or petrol receipts if you are riding down, and you should be just fine.
