    Re: Inter-State Bike Transfer Thread

Hey guys, I may shift to Pune next month from Karnataka. I'm thinking of taking my KA regd bike with me. I don't plan to stay there for more than 11 months. I'll come back to KA after that. So, what are all the things and docs that I'd need to do and take?

From 2002 till date, I have been variously posted in J & K, NCR, MP and Gujarat. Whenever my bike used to be stopped by traffic cops due to the out of state number, I used to be let off as I am a serving officer in the Army - most traffic cops, countrywide (barring Karnataka, Kerala and TN) acknowledge that as members of my tribe are posted to any place for not more than two years, changing the regn number for a 12 month+ stay (as per the MVA) is a real pain in the rear.

The last time I was on leave and riding around town in Pune, I was stopped again. The highly cooperative and knowledgeable cop advised to get a copy of a particular rule which permits Central Govt employees to retain the original regn for a period of three years, till they are in service. I had a copy of this rule back in 1995 when I been doing a course of instruction in Bangalore but have lost it since.

Can anybody help me? If I had had to change my regn numbers as per the MVA, I would have had a collection of about 20 odd number plates for the 10 different states I have seen till now! Stupid laws, what can one do...

The question about green tax still remains, do I need to pay it or not?

Pm me ur number I will call you

Nothing is mentioned about the green tax, do I need to pay it? Also is it possible to renew RC after it expires?
Won't be a problem the only you need to check if the owner us still there. As if the owner is not available then that cause a problem as the rto want to see the owner as well when the registration expires.

Thanks man for the suggestion. I came to know from my colleagues that paying the road tax even will do the work If I can make them understand that I'm here on temporary basis. Will ask my query tomorrow at RTo nearby to Pune Rly Station.

I left my bike from Pune in chickballapur(Ktaka) for a year with my brother.. No police problem here.. I am taking it back to Pune next week.. :-) Last week interceptor caught me for over speeding.. Asked about Mh registration.. I told him I was just on couple of weeks vacation and he didn't ask anymore questions..
