And yeah as hitanshu mentioned the front alloys have indeed acted as a crumple zone!!

Correct !!Originally posted by arunmur View PostWishing you and the bike a fast recovery
A very good quality alloys are supposed to be stiff and not bend. They do break though. One of the main advantages of alloys over their rimmed equivalents are that they have less weight increasing the contact time of the wheel on the ground on bad roads, increasing the grip. And alloys dont need wheel balancing every now and then, only when they are purchased.
But story of Indian alloys are different most of our bikes come with heavy alloy wheels that bend and dont break(completely killing the advantages of a alloy). In our country I Consider Aura as the best set of wheels(balance between hardness and lightness) but sadly they dont make bike alloys.
The way the fork and the disk is bent there has been some impact on the front wheel, after trasmitting some amount of force to the fork the alloy links broke which is exactly as they are supposed to work. It would have been scarry if they had broken just due to heavy breaking. In all other conditions Alloy breaking is acceptable.
Need to investigate more on this...

Yamaha Alloys Alert!
Guys, Binoy's bike is not the only Yamaha whole alloys broke from impact. My cousin witnessed an accident between an R15 and a bus. The bus braked suddenly, the R15, which was speeding, braked hard, and the front alloy spokes just broke off, no impact at all. They snapped like twigs from the hard braking alone! And this is on a bike that costs 1.1 lakhs! You expect this kind of bad quality from Bajaj, but et tu Yamaha? This sig made the Kessel Run in less than twelve parsecs. And if you don't know what that means, you're not old enough to. :D

As for the cars, front parts are made to be crumble zone coz due to a sudden impact with a hard chassis and front portion, the impact will be more effected to the passengers, like wise in bikes these alloys are bikes crumble zone parts... For me on that accident in which the alloys dosen't broke all the impact will be on me especially on my legs and i can't jus imagine my legs as that of the alloys... in my case i would say those alloys and helmet(ya sure the guardian Angel) saved my life...
But i am definitely not telling yamm's alloys are perfect... i would always say those alloys are not up to the mark... coz the other day when i accidently fell on a pothehole with not much speed, i can see the impact on my rear alloys(a lil bent)...
i don't know after my accident all the guys in SVC knows me very well and others also... one day i received a call from the SVC and the guy asked me they had a call from the faridabad office to know how my FZ's alloys broke... i think they are getting too many alloy probs from the Trivandrum SVC's...
Anyways Yamaha must improve those alloys... hop it will be rectified in the next versions...
P.S: Hey Vivek its long time since now... where were u? hop to see on the next G2G...

LOL! Even Bajaj alloys do not break off like this! Atleast haven't heard of one till date.Originally posted by VivekGK View PostGuys, Binoy's bike is not the only Yamaha whole alloys broke from impact. A lucky save i must say there.
Read all 6 pages, and everyone's comments on the alloys,
- The R15 and the FZ are one of the few bikes, with a crumple zone in mind, the breaking of the alloy actually absorbs most of the shock of impact, rather than transferring it to the rider.
Though alloys cracking on braking? wow thats new!
- You are supposed to be careful with alloys, not ride them over potholes and bumps, even if you are going off-road, load them correctly and ride carefully. Now dont flame me, but pulsar alloys are heavier, negating the much needed effect that alloys wheels have, because they have to be stiffer, and more resistant to bends, dents etc.
- I have seen a crash involving an avenger and a car head-on, where the steering stem broke of the bike. A much risky situation, since the bike immediately broke into half from the neck, So quality is debatable for all.
- Though its true, that the FZ has been experiencing a number of cases of rim bending.
Ride safe bro, and be sure to get as many things as possible changed/replaced in the front, like the handle T, crown, handlebar mounts, handlebar, front forks, axle, etc. everything.
