  • I dont understand one thing. How does a low beam inverted becomes a hi beam?! Better make that 2 low beam and one hi beam.

BTW, looks awesome! It would be fun watching the truck drivers get heart attacks watching the "3 eyed thing" coming towards them rapidly!

But seriously the headlight looks cool ! Love this thread, especially the lighting on Rahul's bike.

@Rahul, knowing b'lore cops havent you been stopped yet ? Of course its safe cause its in a projector but still that's really bright, reaaaaaaallly bright.
I am already running on 9ah Amaron

Bangalore cops wont catch u unless you break a traffic rule And putting HID is not breaking rule.

I tested the projectors and the throw comes like this.

      • Is the second beam exclusively for searching low flying planes or is it for our dear truckies?!!

I would still prefer 2 low beams, Symmetrical looks you know!

          • Now my hands are itching. Here is my idea. I want to make both the beams work on my P220 FI. The difference would be that i would use halogens (Osram Night Breakers) instead of HID's. Lack of funds .

If we have a look at the power consumption, it would be like this. 55+55+10+5=125W I can effectively reduce 15W (Pilot lamps and Licence plate lamp). Iam in need of 110W Power.
If i run this setup what are the possible risks? Apart from quick battery drain what other issues would i face?
I know that the rate at which the battery would discharge is way faster than the rate at which the battery would charge. So i would be left out with a dead battery after sometime.
Any idea how much time a fully charged battery would survive at high rpms(greater than 7k) and low rpms(till 4k)? Will running at high rpms meet the Power demand?
What are the possible things that must be done to increase the rate of charging of the battery? I know that i will have to get my stator coil re-wounded to generate more power and design a new custom RR unit. But will these two increase the rate of charging of the battery? Apart from these is there anything else that i have to modify?
What if i get a bigger battery? Iam searching for something big. Heard that Bullets have 14Ah batteries. If i use this battery will i be able to run long?
Also can the same wiring as rahuldevnath did can be applied to my idea?

Iam a total noob to bike's electricals . I would be happy if all the queries are answered.

            Thanks & Cheers,
            Rahul

              Lower Battery life too!

Around 1 hour atleast! Higher rpms will increase the duration. By how much, you find out and let us know!

Yeah, only if you give the battery sufficient time to charge. That is, if you do not ride at night all the time.

Phew! Finally some relief. Please bear with a few more of my noobish questions .

U mean to say that without any kind of mods i can run for atleast 1 hour on high rpms(greater than 7k). Am i right?
At lower rpms(upto 4k) i would suffer from severe battery drain and gradual decrease in its life. Am i right?
If i get a bigger battery(14Ah) and use that without any mods i should be able to run for a longer time(greater than 1 hour). Am i right?
Now coming to the mods like Re-winding and new RR. Are there any job-quality related issues after i get the coil re-wounded?
How should i ask the person? Shall i ask him to rewind it to produce 100W+ or something else?
Is designing a new RR must or my present RR will work? What if my new custom RR fails?
I would be using this setup only at places where the lighting of either low beam or high beam isnt sufficient to glow the surroundings. In the City, its usage would be very less. Hardly a few minutes in a day combined together all the usage. I dont drive much at Nights on the Highways. Even if i do i would try to make use of High-Beam more than the dual beams. Still is it required to get the mods done?
What kind of relay should i use? Since the power here is higher than rahuldevnath's case wont the similar relay cause some trouble?

@ Mods-My questions can be compiled and used as FAQ's.

Yeah, only get it done by someone who knows what they are doing.

You can use Ape RR unit. That way no need to make any custom stuff.
I would be using this setup only at places where the lighting of either low beam or high beam isnt sufficient to glow the surroundings. In the City, its usage would be very less. Not exactly. Try it out for a few days, you would know if it is required. But this set up is clearly not for long distance tours.
What kind of relay should i use? Since the power here is higher than rahuldevnath's case wont the similar relay cause some trouble?
Use car relay. They are rated at more than 100W.

Edit : I see that you have a FI model. In this case, I would advise you to stay away from the mods unless you want to be stranded on the roads. Atleast, be careful about the load you place on the battery.

Dude .. You dont even need a HID to blind the on-coming traffic. I am using one 55w bulb on my projector and trust me it was good enough for trucks to give me way

                      Thanks for cautioning me.
One should be willing to experiment. If it works well and good. If not, thats some time, effort and money spent on R&D.
I would use this setup purely for testing purpose. No long distance touring till the time iam confident that it works without creating any trouble to my FI and Fuel Pump. I would use it only in the city. I wouldnt use it continuously though.

What is this Ape RR unit? Is it the three wheeler mini truck? Is it a direct fit? What about its cost and availability?
Will there be some problem if i use the same 9Ah battery and do the mods?
My mechanic advised me to buy an older stator coil and get that re-wounded and keep the stock coil and RR handy to avoid any kind of risks and trouble incase of failure. What should i do?
A car relay. If iam not wrong i'll get it in any car accessory shop. Is there any particular brand or model i need to look out for? What about its cost?

Rahul, there's more to a Pulsar problem other than Battery draining issues. The biggest headache is of course BCU or Body Control Unit, a small device similar to CDI in looks, on RH of the fairing.

The mod stated here would apply to any 220 model. on a Dtsi model of course it much safer because, the bike electrical remains same, with the Fuel Pump being absent, thus saving some power there.

Putting two halogens will have theoretically at least following consequences:-
                        (1) Battery Discharge
                        (2) Low Battery Life
                        (3) BCU going Kaput
                        (4) Wiring getting heated up
                        (5) Stator Coil going Kaput
                        (6) RR Unit going Kaput

All of these translates to bike not starting. And in FI you bike won't start even if you try push starting it, if there's not enough power to run the fuel pump.

On the positive aspect, the bike comes with LOW Batt indicator, and also BCU saves the bike from any of the problems occurring due to overload, you also have 2 fuses on your disposal. So, there's no harm in experimenting as such, as you are not cutting any wires, and hence the warranty remains intact.

It is around 100 bucks. But this is needed after you go for coil rewinding. The stock RR unit will not cope with a rewinded coil.

Will there be some problem if i use the same 9Ah battery and do the mods?
