Thanks a lot. It will be something like that of R6.Originally posted by NikhilB View Post@nitrosatya

Underseat exhausts used to heat up the rear seat in most of the cases. And throw fumes on the rider following you. I have a good experience about that!Originally posted by payeng View PostYep would like some of your inputs on exhaust design evolution.
The current trends seem to be towards stubby designs, under seat exhausts see to be passe nowadays.
The idea of integrated seat and exhaust was by Honda NR 750.Actually is a controversy between Ducati and Honda as to who used it first. Never caught the fancy of the people until it made a comeback in early 2000s. The Blade,Duc 998/9,ZX6R, and the R1 had it. R1 still has it. It is it's unique design feature. R1 owners would know better of the heating issues.
The trends nowadays are towards mass centralisation and creating an impression of tightness. Centre of gravity matters a lot to sportsbikes. That is the reason the side swept exhausts went under seat and now under engine. Carbon fibre, ceramic and titanium is used now. There are noise regulations and emission norms. All of which contribute to this.
The future bikes will not have exhaust pipes and silencers because they will not emit any fumes, they will go electric!

I am putting this little photoshop edit from the speculation thread.
This is a simple proportion editing which shows the implications of downforce styling. When I first looked at the Mojo, I felt it looked like a big feline. If it were to be a big wild cat then it was lacking some proportions.
Do you think if it was marketed as an inspiration of a Cheetah lurking to pounce on his prey, could it have worked better? (Instead of the queer dance at the unveiling?)
Your thoughts welcome.

Found a very good article. Must read for all design enthusiasts.
Design in India: The View From Within
Extract from the article:
In one meeting with a TV giant that had better remain nameless, I asked them why, when they've ruled the Indian market for so many years, they had not managed to become the Sony of India? Total silence. Even though they have a full design studio (doing reasonably good work), their products don't differ much from other international players who are putting all their financial and design might into eating the Indian pie.
Once these companies understand that they have to innovate, they don't seem ready to take the riskier step of continuing to do so. It will take another round of mediocrity and failure before they understand that engaging with higher paradigms of design is not optional. These companies have the potential to become shining icons of Indian design, but they need a visionary leader to take them there.
The fifth category is the most recent—multinationals wanting to localize innovation for the Indian market. This one comes courtesy of the booming Indian economy and signals foreign awareness of the end of the Indian consumer's love affair with foreign products.
Once upon a time, everything with an overseas label sold well. For years, foreign companies operating in India considered Indian consumers "Third World" residents who would be happy with any foreign label, and who didn't have an idea of ergonomics, style, or evolved taste.
Products that had proved unfashionable elsewhere were introduced in India, but then the Indian consumer began to catch on. Traditional segmentation and economic capacity-based studies don't wash any more. Gone are the days when Indian consumers would buy whatever was presented to them.Last edited by nitrosatya; 01-20-2011, 10:00 PM.

Sathya, this is coming good; ofcourse, it looks good like Duc Streetfighter, make some more improvements & I'd like to see them. I like this one much better than what Mahindra is planning to launch. Get rid of the exhausts to single side, pack the engine well, atleast to begin with.Originally posted by nitrosatya View PostYour thoughts welcome.Last edited by aargee; 01-21-2011, 06:38 AM.Skill is what keeps you on a Motorcycle

The subtle changes in the styling of the Mojo are truly remarkable, completely changing the stance of the vehicle. Really love the new look, maybe you ought to send a mail to M&M regarding the same?
On second thought, maybe they never intended the Mojo to be an aggressively styled bike, its more of a street, urban bike and hence the more upright stance?

The mail thing doesn't work, tried it with Bajaj once.Originally posted by hifisharu View PostThe subtle changes in the styling of the Mojo are truly remarkable, completely changing the stance of the vehicle. Really love the new look, maybe you ought to send a mail to M&M regarding the same?

bold part:Absolutely right! But you saw what happened with the laid back non aggressive styling. So much criticism which led to Mahindra taking off the bike from site. No one was interested in that styling. But few people did like my modification. Which says that aggressive designs will be liked by us Indians.

Mr. Designer, just a curious question...
Honda with the CBR has a common theme of silver in all the three shades coming to India! Do you see a reason for it?
and I know the surplus from the Old Unicorn silver paint stock is not the answer!

Design philosophy of each brand. Sensorial design. I described it sometime back in this thread.Originally posted by satyenpoojary View PostMr. Designer, just a curious question...

I am little bit disappointed by some things that I discovered recently. How long can it take to use some of my inputs by a bike maker/custom bike builder? Without giving me any credit?Originally posted by NikhilB View PostHey Nitro...

So henceforth I will be really thinking before I post anything here....

Back from a long break. Got some time to breath now.
The pupil effect. [Not to be confused with Angel eyes effect]
This design feature also started to develop in late 90s.Mostly a character of faired bikes. The simulation of a pupil in the eyes [headlights] of the bike. Sometimes to show the aggression of the bikes, whole or part of the light insides are blackened or higlighted.
If you remeber the ad of Tata Indica Vista, only the cat eyes were shown. That means whole of the light area was illuminated. But on the Yamaha R1 pre 2009 models, though there was a big glass area shown up front, only some part of it was illuminated.
We can see the pupil effect in the CBR. And the Yamaha R6. How they use it to different effects.
Keep pupil close to the eyebrow to create an aggressive expression. Take the pupil a little down from the eyebrow to make a surprised 'what the hell' expression.
Also there is a fine balance between the size of lights and the rest of the fairing. Make the lights too big and the bike looks odd. Make it small and you have road illumination problems. MV Agusta F4 has the best ratio in my opinion. Just enough lights and enough fairing ratio. That is why Massimo Tamburini is reverred all across the bike world for his designs. Unbelievable balance of lines. We will see the lines and balance in the next post.
The current trend is keeping in lines with Ducati 1199 and Yamaha R1. Make the headlight in the front air vent itself.

The new BMW gs1200 is touted to be liquid cooled... Isnt the boxer engine traditionally supposed to be beneficial for air cooling (and ofcourse the balance)Super CommuTOURer - Talk less, Ride more
