Advice is a form of nostalgia.
Dispensing it is a way of fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the ugly parts and recycling it for more than it's worth.

Also if we get a good response to this thread, it might see some action.

Actually there is a slight shortcoming in the P200NS stance for it to be supersports bike. I will explain in my design thread.
Also, I have one more question. What do you think of Hyosung's GT250R's design? Many people say it's a big bike in the era where all manufacturers are making their bikes smaller which makes it outdated. I personally find GT250R very very beautiful. What's your take on it?

@Rahul,Antz & hss: Thanks!
The Pulsar 200NS is a tall bike. It's roots lie in the KTM Duke chassis. Duke is not a sportsbike by any proportions. It is a street+off road supermoto bike. If one were to put a fairing on this frame it will not be suiting the typical proportions of a sportsbike.
What are typical proportions of a sportsbike? As mentioned earlier in the thread. The headlight placement is very low than the tank. You have to rest your torso on the tank. It is like the prone postion while shooting a gun. This position is favoured when racing on a track. Where the seat time is lesser as compared with streetbikes. Duck behind the windscreen and go fast!
All this means that if P200NS is meant to be converted into a sportsbike, it will have to be lowered. The clip-ons will have to be lowered. This means cutting recesses into the tank. A different tank cover will be required than the current one. If they are touring clip-ons like the 220, it cannot be a supersport proportion. Just a sport tourer.
If it has a full fairing, which in this case they might do it till line A in the pic, then it will be an awkward design. Raised fairing. If they change the tank, lower the handle bar and lower the full fairing till line B, then it will be a good looking supersports bike. More towards track orientation. Less towards touring. Line C here means the ground line. Usually the big sportsbikes have a low lying fairing till line B.
My only worry is that the P220FS or whatever it will be called might be a sport tourer and not a supersports like R15.

^ Satya bro, very nicely explained and you've rightly emphasized its Streetbike roots.
But, I somehow believe that in the Indian context, if a nice handling and revvy bike like Duke/P200NS is not utilized for racing, it would be a sore under utilization of the engine, if not that frame.
I for one, won't mind if the same engine ends up in a different frame, even if its unlikely.
See the figures: 25 bhp @ 10 krpm with 137 kgs or 23.5 bhp @ 9500 rpm with 145 kgs. The specs: Liquid cooling, 4 valve, 6 speed, short stroke, etc. They all just scream "racing" like nothing else does!
Let's hope they manage the fairing edition project good.
Because, its quite an important decision and there's a lot of uncertainty, and because, Designing is quite subjective.
Will it work out well functionally? and will people like it? are the 2 questions only time can answer.---

+1 Satya!
The stance of the bike is upright (and thats an absolute delight for touring~! How I wish, it had a Versys like touring screen+lamps and it would be so apt to call it as a Sports tourer instead of the Discover ST!Super CommuTOURer - Talk less, Ride more

^ In some way yes.
Bajaj is now playing the name game. People in India respond to a name than anything else. If a name X is associated with something good, people will buy it blindly. If a Name Y is associated with anything bad, people will never buy it even though it is of Japanese quality.
Pulsar is associated with sportiness and hooliganism. It is better to make it a supersports than a tourer. Tour on a Pulsar, no...
Discover name can easily be assoiciated with touring. Like,"let's discover a new land.." can be it's tagline. [Damn Bajaj should pay me
]
Imagine a big and powerful tourer from Bajaj in future with KTM 350-690 engines. Bajaj Discover 690ST. With semi fairing, high rise handlebars, single sided swingarm, you get the idea. This makes so much sense!!
There goes one idea....Bajaj, pay me.

I didn't know such a thread existed. I found it after Nitrosatya posted the link in the Mahindra Mojo thread. Lots of usefull and creative information is found in this thread. I really appreciate your knowledge and information shared by you here. I've gone through almost all the pages. I wonder how I missed this thread before. Please do keep posting here from time to time, don't let the thread die.

Re: The design of a Motorcycle.
This starts from really early on. Right from the time when consumerism started to grow in India. Radios started to
arrive in Indian households. TVs. VCRs. Washing machines. Daily care products. Packaged food products. And
then it really took hold.
COMPETITION!
They have an X brand in their house. We should buy that. They have Y brand. Look their son/daughter went to
England, America, etc. He/She has bought an imported product! I remember when my uncle returned from foreign
country for the first time. He had bought a Canon camera which was not available in India. The wonderstruck feeling
when I saw the design, the surfaces and the functions! A friend of mine had an imported watch. Which he brought to
school one day. Everyone flocked around him. He was an instant star, Elevated person of high status in our society.
Someone who is better than other common people.
Apply this squarely to automobile industry in India. And you get the current picture. We have a handicap of time. We have started long after the world.
We are behind when it comes to trends and styles. And quality. Our modest economy is slowly changing from
purpose to leisure. Where we bought a vehicle for utility before, is fast changing now to leisure. Therefore I think the craze of imported cars/motorcycles set in. That is where the general feeling of imported is better than Indian started.
Oh look he has an imported car! Oh look he has an imported bike!
Where will this go? My analysis says in the next 10 years Indian companies will fully wake up to international trends
and styles. Surfaces will get better. Fixtures will get better. Build quality will get better. Performance will get better!
And we shall really arrive on the international scene! Which side will you be?
