  • This is How Bajaj Works!

One of a very close associate purchased a Bajaj Pulsar 180DTSi from Bagga Links, New Delhi and I was accompanying him. I was horrified to see the way the Agency was minting money by adopting all sorts of cheap tactics. Despite speaking to the Manager there, I was not satisfied with the kind of lame examples and explanations he gave, for which I wrote a mail to the Customer Support. And following is the order in which the concern was dealt with:

Letter Written on 19th Feb, 2010

    Dear Sir,
It gives me great displeasure to write this mail to you. One of my very close associate recently purchased a Pulsar 180 DTSi from one of the dealers in Delhi- M/s Bagga Link and I accompanied him for this ordeal.
The way the dealership is performing is bringing disgrace to the entire fraternity of Two Wheelers Dealership. And I am saying this because I have worked in the capacity of General Manager with one of the Dealerships.I fail to figure out the reason why is the dealership charging for things without giving us the receipts.
I am attaching the scanned copy of the Proforma Invoice of the dealership in which they have charged Rs. 405.00 towards LOG CHARGES. and Rs. 475.00 towards Affidavit, No. Plates, Attestation etc.
May I please ask for the explanation of the charges listed above, for I don’t see a reason why the Logistic charges should be borne by the customer and not by the dealership? Further, the charges towards No. Plate & Attestation is ridiculous as it is simply a sheer case of malpractice wherein all the required documents were handed over at the time of purchase. One more thing worth mentioning is the unavailability of ex.showroom prices on your website which is in turn promoting malpractice like the one followed by Bagga Link.
I expect to hear from you in this regard sooner than soon.

In response to this, I received the following mail on 21st Feb,2010

    Dear Sir,
We are in receipt of your mail and noted the contents. We would request you to provide few details mentioned below so that our Service Team would get in touch with you.
    Registration No. - NA
    With Warm Regards
    Customer Care Cell

    I wrote the following on 22nd Feb,2010

Can you please elaborate on the following:
What Registration Number are we talking about here?
    Regards

Then, I got this as an answer on 23rd Feb,2010

    Dear Sir
We are in reciept of your mail and noted the contents. We would request you to provide few details mentioned below so that our Service Team would get in touch with you.
Registration No. - Nos mention on nos plate.
    With Warm Regards
    Customer Care Cell

I wrote them back on 24th Feb, 2010 , telling them about the registration Number of the bike and then on 6th March, I got this mail:

    Dear Sir/ Madam,
This is with reference to your request registered as Customer Reference Number 'CR-20662. '
We understand your request is attended to your satisfaction and hope you are happy with our service.
For any further assistance please call us at 1800 233 2453 (Toll Free) or send an email at [email protected].
Assuring you the best service at all times.
    With warm regards,
    Customer Care Cell
    Bajaj Auto Limited

Finally, I wrote to them on 11th March the following mail but despite numerous phone calls too, haven’t heard from them.

Now how amazing this is? I write a complaint and without getting a solution, I am told that the issue is resolved. Is everything so automatic ?
No sweat, let me see how this thing has to be solved. Forgot to tell you, will be sending a copy of this mail to all the auto Magazines and to the consumer forums too.
    Regards

Just felt like informing my mates about the high-handedness of Bajaj Auto!

    No Cheers for Bajaj

to me that feels like sheer arrogance from the customer support!

I thought Bajaj is responsive to its customers. A complaint of this importance - malpractice and taking money without receipt can even drag them to a criminal case, should have been dealt with much more seriously.

This is so disappointing. I have had horrible experiences with Suman bajaj, Noida and Krishna Bajaj in Gurgaon. I thought Delhi was better off but i guess, its all sarkaari in bajaj.

Its no miscommunication..It has been this way for quite many years.
I have been following up on a case which started since the time I bought my 220

Shirode Bajaj from Pune charges its customers for free service in the name of service tax....Shocking...!

I have been in constant talks with the Head Manager Probiking service Bajaj and he says we can not do much about it!!!
than who the hell is responsible for it....!

My bike has just been around for 6 months old and facing some 'typical bajaj' niggling issues and they have not been able to rectify those for the last 6 months and around 15 visits....!

I am one of those who have been addicted to Bajajs products and hate their service from the bottomest core of my heart.....!

Sad and pathetic response from Bajaj's side.

Sadly for us customers there is no escalation mechanism to push these issues up to a higher level if the first level fails to deliver.

I think if you still want to get things moving keep following up with patience, that as of now seems to be your only option!

                    Hey Buddy,

I have had a very good experience with Bajaj Srvc in Mumbai. I had purchased Bajaj Sapphire and was having problems with the automatic transmission. I went and complained the matter to the srvc centre guys but the problem was sloved only temporarily. Then out of utter frustration i wrote a letter to the main head office in pune and immediately within a week i received a call from the srvc centre guys to get my vehicle in for servicing. They had some parts replaced absolutely free of cost without any labour charge also. The bike was running fine for few months and the problem started again. I guess Saphire model was not successful, so in the end i sold it.
Bajaj as a reputed brand and company should not give a deaf ears to customers complaints. Coz its the word of mouth for good sales. So if they want to keep their reputation they need to act on it and take action against such dealers.
Ride Hard !!! Ride Safe!!! Enjoy every moment on your machine !!! Cheers....

I too feel this as a miscommunication or the customer support understands the email in favour of them so that they can always close the ticket with silly answers. IMO, writing to Rajiv Bajaj could help this in someway. I'm sure you would've thought about this, however, I just thought of mentioning this point. Writing to auto magazines also helps; Worst case, consumer forum.

In my strong opinion, customer care in India, be it Bajaj or Skoda, is a fashion to state that we're big, which in the western world mean a real care for people. Obviously, you know what the west thinks about this company. Do Bajaj dealers in South America, Srilanka, Bangladesh, Nepal & Malaysia know about these? Just imagine if they come to know about this & the huge opportunity of collecting LOG charges

                      I always look for the quality in the product; if the product is made of high quality, it gives you more reliability to make fewer calls to complaint to customer care; you'll only need customer care to guide you what to do when you struck;

Bajaj, right from KB100, to its home grown Pulsar no exception, all of them have the same problem, good engine & poor body & that's why most of the parts fall off from their motorcycle.

EDIT - On a second read, could you post the extra charges? Reason is, I only see LOG charges as something new, while affidavit & attestation could be towards RTO, this is usual when the customer doesn't have a address proof, number plates for both front & rear are usually charged now a days.

Vote using your wallet guys. Unfortunately most people in India don't bother about after sales especially when it comes to bikes and that gives these smug dealers more reasons not to change their pathetic attitude. For now i'd suggest re-communicating with them and if the attitude persists approach the consumer court. I am sure they will see your case in new light after that.

Mates, The idea was not to discuss the built quality of Bajaj, or some persistent technical snags. all I wanted to say was- Bagga Link, one of the leading dealers of Bajaj dupes people of their money in broad day light and then, when a customer approaches the Customer Care Help desk, his issue is closed without doing anything.

I really wonder, Bagga link sells around 40 to 50 bikes a day and approx. 1000.00 rs. charged extra from each customer translates into roughly 40,000.00 rs each day towards money earned through wrong channels. How come, all my wonderful mates who have purchased their bikes from Bagga Link never bothered to look at the Invoice.

As they say, one man's loss is another man's gain. So, just because of the fact that we are ignorant, gives people like Bagga Link the golden opportunity to dupe us.

As for my case, I will get it sorted out, this way or that way, and if nothing works, I will figure it out MY WAY.

It is a clear case of violation under The Monopolies & Restrictive Trade Practices Act. If you take on the dealer and the company (by virtue of appointing the entity/ person as a dealer), the chances are very good that you will win the case.

As someone has said, be it Bajaj, or Skoda, it is the same story everywhere. Terrible. But it does make me laugh. However I would not laugh if it were to happen to me!
