i agree wit u !! every company does this !! i.e providing more choice to the Customer..and im happy that atleast bajaj is makin an effort to plonk in new engines (may be not entirely but new nevertheless) ...jus have a look at hh model line up almost 5 to 6 bikes use the same engine (read 98cc engine) with jus different plastics and weird colours !! ...we have to keep in mind that we live in country called india ..wer bike entu like us form a small percent !! and major part is the commuter segment !! thats y even yamaha launched ybr 110 !! so this way for a person who wants decent power and dosen want to loose out on average and is on a tight budget this bike fits perfectly ...i guess a lot of people fall into this category !!Originally posted by payeng View PostBang on!
Same opinion here.
The Discover is for the "honest" commuter, regardless of whether its 100 cc or 150 cc. Let the commuter get his dose of extra torque. We should only be happy for him.
Four wheels is transportation. Two wheels is attitude.

Its possible only for Bajaj to call more than 6 cc lower engine as 150cc
Even-though this didn't happened in other brands riteOriginally posted by Devilpulsarian View PostEven the classic Pulsars launched in 2001 were 143.9cc engines but were called as Pulsar 150...
then in that case even the 135 cc can be called as 150 coz the difference is only 9 cc (144 cc) rite
All consumers are not fools but some are.....Sarcasm is my automatic response to stupidity

46000?
i read it right?
That means aprox 50k otr.
even a 100cc costs more!
Discover 135 sells at about 55k otr.
engine is a 13hp unit have a torq of about 12Nm and gives a mileage of 65kmpl!
how is it possible?
Even the bike weights less then p135ls! (2kgs less)
ok bajaj is giving somthing for every one,
and the strategy is working.
now lets just wait for performace tests and we will know it hits the target or miss it!

Brother, I am a little confused as to what relationship are you deriving from this difference. Its just a name which is given to a bike. How does it relate to fooling a customer or a customer getting befooled.Originally posted by MSN1 View PostEven-though this didn't happened in other brands rite

sad people just think of it as customers.. and that too customers in age group 20-30. if i am now wrong i heard some time back its gonna be Pulsar and Discover brands for Bajaj and wont be sporting Bajaj on the bikes. This is an obvious and coolest step 1 can imagine of building brands. My dear, u hate this, u blame this, but down the line 5 yrs u gonna advice ur frnds-Originally posted by yamahatrooper View PostThere we go Bajaj with it's doodh packet production marketting strategy:

Looking for a commuter- go for discover it has a wide range
looking for a sport- go for Pulsars.. too gud in range for all segments.
this is an ultimate step that shall seperate bajaj from the HHs and the TVS.This if not in 2 yrs, if not in 4 yrs, but definitely down the line make bajaj as the most powerful 2 wheeler company in country
i will appreciate if i see avengers coming in 150, 200 and 220 segments. will rock and will be best for customers.
stop thinking as if u r d only buyer in the market.! cheers!

See, i dont think you are 100% wrong, but you are not 100% right either.
Heres why:
your saying that they have a WIIIDDDDEEEEEE range of the same bikes is a good thing right? in some cases thats good. BUT the customers now a days want something different, a change perhaps. They dont want something just upgraded with a few more CC's and thrown into market. Another thing, most people who buy higher CC bikes, about 80 to 85% are usually from 16 to 26. Because after that, most of the people focus on average wali bikes and their jobs, wife, kids etc. One good example would be the TVS JIVE (dont laugh lol, its not funny) they came into the market with something new and completely different. the public is not saying to bajaj that they shouldnt come out with all these 10CC differentiated bikes. But to also add new bikes instead of just doing minor changes to the 2 popular bikes they have and throwing it back into the market...
I hope you understand.Last edited by krUnIzZlE; 05-11-2010, 09:13 PM.PHP Code:

Yeah CBC Classic was 156cc (somewhat more than 150cc or something that is pretty close to 150cc like 149 or 148 cc is acceptable)
but in this case Discov.. 150 is 144 cc which is again 9 cc above discov.. 135
so by bajaj naming convention whats wrong in calling 135cc also as disco..150Sarcasm is my automatic response to stupidity

Then how come the Splendor has been the "Largest selling motorcycle in the World" for around straight 8 (or is it 9) years..??
For the record, the Splendor still doesn't come with a self start.
One needs to look through the eyes of the "target" customer.
An average commuter actually finds peace of mind with a well established Brand/Product.
This is exactly the reason why the Discover 100 has been a runaway success.. after Pulsar the Discover is the most established brand from Bajaj.. Never mind if earlier it was (125/135) cc and currently it is (100/150) cc. The Discover Brand is still familiar to the average commuter.
The Discover 100 sells around 70,000-80,000 bikes a month. It goes without saying that any company would do anything to achive that find of sales numbers by selling "all" of its products.
Customers who want something different from the crowd presently go for bikes like the Fazer. And that is not the "target" customer for the Discover (or Splendor) Brand.

Why don't you shoot a mail to BMW Motorrad, asking them the explanation of how could they brand the BMW R1200 GS, when the actual engine capacity for the same model is just 1170 cc..??
