I guessed the same about the cam that your friend bought.
I also found Garmin Virb Action cam. Has a dedicated website for the same. Specs seems to be good.

Is there a separate thread for helmet cams? I don't want to continue discussing an unrelated topic here.

Do check dx.com and Aliexpress before your order. they have SJ5000 (Wi fi Version of SJ4000)

Re: Dash/Helmet cam

i have sj4000 and opted is over sj1000 for the wide angle lens of 140 over 90 on new sj1000.
go pro is insanely mad and sj4000 does 95% of the work go pro does... for 1/3 of the price.
i got the SJ4000 for 80$ odd from states. a friend hand carried it. DX.com also has it however news of Fake sj4000 i was skeptical to order the same.

last month i also got SJ4000 from ebay.com , costed $81 which is around 5100/- INR , with all the attachments and luckly didn;t had to pay custom or import duty [due to shipping by hongkong mail, else DHL/fedex will charge upfront for customes]. and good thing is the seller sold the original copy.

yes SJ4000 does what basic go-pro does and video quality is really good.

Now as Gopro HERO 2014 released with just $130 , it might be good buy.
prateek2210 the SJ5000 is a fake one, check RCgroups and techmoan review

the basic one is damn basic and sj4000 does amazing work at that price point.
also to note is go pro dosent come with accesories. so add another 50$ for the same.. still 2 x the price of sj4000

nagoo : Lucky guy... You got it cheaper than mine. Regarding SJ5000, yes even I think its fake.

I personally think that GoPro4 is still not for India. 4k requires good HD display for output, it will take much more space.
Rather one should look for high fps in 720p/1080p to get the best output.

Now I am looking for tank mount for the same.

tank mounts work well for multi cylinder bikes and butter smooth roads. i would suggest you not to opt for the same.
for single cylinder bikes the counter balancer will never nullify the complete vibrations also accounting to the potholes/patchy roads you will never get a good video/image and the wide angle view will be definitely hindered by handle bar /mirrors etc. the safest bet is helmet . if you dont like that angle. make a diy chest strap.
just my opinion.

the long rod is nothing but a monopod. you can pick up one for 500-600 bucks or even cheaper.
for the Chest mount..... NO DONT BUY.

you can use the same belts like in normal bag packs / small bag manufacturing shops have them for pretty cheap. nylon strap.
google : DIY Chest mount. take your measurements after wearing jacket and make one at home of say 100-150 bucks

this is just one example : DIY Camera Chest Harness/Mount (GoPro Inspired)

you will need 3-4 plastic hooks/click locks like our school bags and 1 /1.5 inch wide nylon belt / webbing.. ask tailor to stitch it or you can do yourself don't waste 40 $

that's almost 4k above the actual cost. for ebay you can also cancel paisa pay for counterfeit and raise claims.

else other way you can order from DX dot com you'd get for around 5300-5400 bucks...

Re: Dash/Helmet cam

I've been through almost all the post (I guess).
People with Tight budget GoPro 4 is out in Indian Market for 13k.
Yes the GoPro Accessories are a bit expensive but there are Third Party option also if you can Trust their sturdiness and reliability.

I've personally seen iSaw, Liquid image, something called HD7000, SJ4000 of different riders on road and Yes a GoPro 3 & 3+.
But yes if you are not in mood for GoPro by any reason. I would suggest you to stay away from GoPro. :P
Once you use it for video, photo, burst mode. You might hate others.
For the Quality, stability and name.
prateek2210
Internet if full of DIY for GoPro mounts.
Chest Mount is very easy to make and would hardly take your 50-80rs and 40-60 minutes of work.
I was making one but then ended up on GoPro.com :P (I'm a bit lazy, the stuff to make chest mount are still lying near keyboard while I'm typing this )

And Chest mount is seriously useless if you have a Big Wind Visor like Pulsar220.
If you want I can send you a Pic or Video of the same angle.

Adhesive Curve / flat mount, Handle Roll Bar, Monopod (The rod thing), And Black Buckle, J-Hook is all you need.

Rest are all useless. (I have a Chest Mount, Fetch - Dog Harness, Gooseneck type of. And they are all useless)

The J-Hook for GoPro costs 1.5k and I have 3 cracked with me already. :/
Its seriously costly if you have a hole in pocket like me.

P.S. = Go for "GoPro Tether", It can save your camera if somehow the double tape fails. Very useless to save your precious camera.
First I was Scared But then We Made a Deal

I'll upload and post the video tomorrow.

This is a Still from the video I made using Chest Mount.
I was sitting straight, no crouching on tank.

No edit, Raw snapshot.
Avoid the side fogs. I left my Anti-Fogs at home that day and the rain + cold weather caused it.

Video setting was :
1080p : 60fps

Helmet Top Mount :

Image edit : Only Color correction.
This is also a still from video. Same Day.

P.S. = Image quality for both the images has been decreased to 80%.

P.P.S = Right click on Image, Select View Image to see proper 1080 / Large.
