  • Custom-Painting Alloys !

3k for Painting alloys is I think too much !
Though I'm gonna do it myself, I don't think it will be a difficult task to paint a open-alloy.

Any good mechanic can help in opening and fitting the alloy back.

So I need a bit of help from you guys :

    Bike : Pulsar 220
    To Paint : Front Alloy
    Default Color : Black (Stock)
    To Paint : Golden
    Via : Spray Paint

What I want to know is :
    1. Which good quality paint to use ?
(I had a cheap 200rs spray paint but that was not kind of permanent and keeps on loosing color after some days)
    2. What premier to use ?
    3. Any video or DIY-thread will be really helpful.
    4. Do I need to remove the Stock Black color first or Just paint over it ?

I didn't find any thread on this and I guess being a normal-job (not so tough), we can do this as DIY and save a lot of money.

And even if the paint-job on alloy is not like Perfect / Pro.. Then also it wont bother much as its alloy gonna be dirty :P

But people here are not ready to share :-/

iv painted my front & rear both wheels check my pic for details , what i did was went to a puncture guy told him to remove the wheel n the Tyre too :P covered the part i dint want to paint or paint it with another color then paint part 1 & after that wait for 30 mins to dry the part 1 then remove the paper & check that the paint is now dry then cover part 1 & paint part 2 (IF YOU WANT TO DO MULTIPLE COLORS) other just take out wheel n tyre & paint it & PLEASE DO NOT SPRAY FROM TOO CLOSE READ THE MANUAL BEHIND THE BOTTLE , STRICTLY FOLLOW IT OR YOUR WHEEL WILL END UP HAVING SMALL BUBBLES :/ , WHEN U WILL SPRAY THE PAINT WILL GO IN THE AIR LET IT GO BUT DONT LET BUBBLES FORM THERE :/ IT LOOKS LIKE SHIT IV FACED THE PROBLEM THEN I HAD TO REMOVE THE WHOLE PAINT USING THINNER

You want to paint it golden right ??

                get this one :
Duplicolor - Dupli-Color Instant Gold Spray Lacquer, 11 oz. can (GS100) | eBay

remember that u have to make it sure that u rub the alloys with sand paper properly before u paint. remove all the dust and grease.
And one bottle is more than enough for one rim.
Also put 3 light coats of paint, and have a 20 mins gap between each step.
Dont paint in a windy day.

personally i've never seen an painted wheel which looked nice. They just look cheap. i guess it will be very hard to get the factory finish, you need to find a pro.. check his other works if you feel satisfied then i guess 3k is worth it cause there are just too many fugly painted bikes out there.
                  Regardless, Life shall go on.

if he gonna spend 1.8k on spray can of color for one rim then better he'll pay 3k for both rims & paint shop will do the job for him by that way he'll save 600rs as well..lol

Wheel paints and normal paints are not the same. After painting the wheel, we also need to cure the paint. Otherwise the finishing will not come.
People who put normal paints will always look cheap, as they are not done properly.

Dude as stated above, wheel paints looks cheap. It really does, if proper ones are not used.
Wheel paints are not normal paints. Any shop will do the painting, which you can also do at your home. But those will not have the shine or the finishing after may be 50kms only, and will look very dull.
Thats why wheel paints are costly. Normal paints will not stick to the wheel or will loose the shine very quickly, as the wheels get the biting the most.
So if the paint is not a proper wheel paint, and is not cured properly, then its useless to do the same.
And my dear friend wheel / alloy paints are not at all cheap.
Do a search you will understand

did i ever advise to use a cheap paint? i said in 3K a paint shop will do the job for him & that too with "wheel paint" only..not with 100rs spray paint can..so why do it yourself(until he wants to learn the procedure) & waste more time & money on it?

Thanks all for the time and info. !

Well yes alloy paint seems good only when its glossy and with proper paint.
Other cheap paint ruins the look !

I"ll be getting golden soon and surely share the pic

Bro one can is more than enough for two alloy wheels.
I did that for my bullet.
And it will cost you 1800

And also if you do it ur self u tend to learn a lot, and also u tend to love the bike more

The rest is all his wish

And i have seen the paint that people do for 3k in bangalore. They will look good in the first, but stays only for at most 5-6 months.
