P200 35W to 60/55W
Guys,Originally posted by sajjt View PostNo issues, u r at the liberty to do so.. But be it in safe limits
I am in the same dilemma whether to change to Avenger 180 coil or to full DC with HID on my 200. At present I am in stock condition with Halonix 35W. Of course not satisfied with the light.
I am planning to keep the bike for at least 2 more years. I need good light, don't want to spoil the looks of 200 by having one more light mounted on the crash guard.
Other thing I am concerned about is that whether the 60/55W would damage my reflector in long run, would really appreciate from guys who have actually done this and are using since long. Also the part number I checked with Kirti Nagar pbk, they told me that DV 111005 is no more available, it is discontinued and a different coil is available which is now installed instead of this part, any idea about the same?
I have read many threads and comments on the same, but still not sure.
Expert comments will be greatly appreciated, I did see many experts here on the lightings, thanks xbhp for that and ofcourse the members.Just R15ing...

If u need a better lighting with economical possibilities then go for coil rewinding. Any auto electrician can do this. Replace the coil with 19g wire with the same manner in stock coil and u r ready for a 55/60W halogen after this. No RR swap/damage to any of the components as long as u stick to 55/60W in long run as many of the members are using this for years.Originally posted by D Coolest 1 View PostGuys,

A neatly re winded coil is as good as OE as the OE coil is a manual winded one. And a rewinded coil can out perform an Avy coil as its using more thicker coils. And a stator coil fails very hardly and I would say its almost impossible to burn a stator coil in normal usage.
If u r looking for an HID upgrade, things will be bit expensive as the RR swap, coil rewinding, HID kit cost etc. will make a hole of 3-4K on ur pocket depending on the brand u select. So decide first which will be more suitable for u and get back to us.Last edited by sajjt; 09-14-2010, 04:09 PM.Do it Yourself, what so ever, if Possible

I think I should better go for 60/55W change instead of HID's, since for HID I would also like to get projectors (to avoid glare and to be street legal), which again comes at additional cost. And, anyways I will be planning to change my bike to god knows what... after 2 yrs. (may be the one with projectors)
So, now getting to coil rewinding, Sajjt you said only the gauge wire will change to 19G, instead of current ____ (please fill the blank). And ofcourse the output will increase to accommodate 55/60W bulb. The bike will be running everything else stock. So, there will be AC/DC setup as it is now. There will be no issues with reflector because of the additional heat produced.
I would greatly appreciate if you can also tell me the current setup of coil and what would be new setup. I mean to say what would be changes on coil wires, as well as on output of coil.
Correct me if I am wrong, in existing setup of P200 there will be 3 different segments in coil,
1. Ignition coil 2. Headlight 3. Battery
So do I need to modify all of them or need to change only that of headlight. I am actually referring to this picture, I saw on xbhp itself posted by drvmtm (i hope that this is not an issue to paste it here).

Stock coil will be 60W approx and after rewinding with 19g wire it will be upgraded to 90-100W. So u can play around with the excess power if need any extra aux lamp or so.
For lighting upgrade u only need to rewind the 4 poles, if u want the charging to be boosted to a bit more then rewind the other 3 poles too with the same 19g.
But never ever alter anything other than these 2 coils if u fails to identify just follow the other threads to get an overall idea of rewinding and coils.
Winding patter will be CW,ACW in alternating pattern. The electrician knows this better than us as its the basic principles in alternator winding.
Ur bike will be as good as in stock condition except with a better lighting system and from outside no indications of this mod.
As I said earlier, as long as u stick to 55/60W there wont be any melting of reflectors or any dis colouration to the glass. You can use a 90/100 Halogen with this but at the cost of the reflector assy.
If u still need to use a 90/100, then change the reflector assy with an ambassodor round sealed beam and drive the bulb with a good relay with the help of thicker guage wires from the RR out itself.Last edited by sajjt; 09-14-2010, 05:05 PM.Do it Yourself, what so ever, if Possible

Thanks Sajjt,
Now I am assured that my reflector will be as it is now.
I will get the coil rewinding done by a auto electrician, for the 4 poles; I think I don't need to boost the charging rate for the battery; it is new Amaron 9A just recently changed. And I think there will be no additional stress on battery also because of this change.
There will be the same number of turns on these poles but with 19G wire and CW and ACW turns as you said. Is there any thing else I need to be sure of?
I am currently planning to use 55/60 only;
However the setup can take the 90/100 also, provided I use a relay and thicker wire connection from the RR. Just wondering, you said the ambassador assembly, is there any way we can fit it inside the dome of the existing fairing only. Dont want to spoil the looks
Or there is any other way we can have the bulb in fairing only, like by changing the reflector only.
I know I might be asking too many questions now, but just want to make it clear.
Again, thanks Sajjt for your valuable comments.Just R15ing...

Guys der is a serious problem in my Pulsar 200 DTS-i (2008 Model). Recently i had changed total electricals of the bike including Digital console, BCU, both left n right switches, Ignition switch, RR unit, Stator coil n wiring harness. The problem is that while running, the small bulbs of headlight, meter lights n L-R Switches light starts flickering even when the light switch is off. I again changed the right switch thought that it would be the main cause of da issue but, then also same problem exists. The (Amboli) sai service guys are also not able to make out the exact problem of it. Please Help.
