thats a nice deal you got there.quality of plastic is open for interpretation but one thing is sure,tvs bikes range are having better reflectors then others.the bulb p 220 use in both beams are h 7 type 55watt halogens,so the heat melting is not a question.the throw is very precise and its a very nice combo of spot and driving beams,somehow it falls in betwwen which is a good thing.it goes and covers quite a far ,also if fitted with hid it works wonders,not too much scattering like other bajaj big dome reflectors.though its a free form reflector it s light throw is very very good and the spread is not toooo much which aids the driver as he or she can see a stong intensity of light and by far.
remember that while mounting you use proper ventilation areas.if you see a p 220 s dome carefully you can see there are 1 cm or more free space just in front of the reflector which helps for proper cooling.

got the p220's high beam reflector...
from a crashed dome, so its very slightly chipped from back side, just the left bottom corner...
doesn't make any difference on the reflecting surface so i am happy....
it would be wrong to expect soo much in 50 bucks..

i searched fiero f2 reflector in junkyards, just in case if i need one, i was not lucky to find as my bike is a rare machine today.
i went to tvs spare part dealer and grabbed a brand new headlight reflector which already has a bulb inside...

it was an expensive but i opted to buy that just in case if i screw this proj/halo reflector and if something goes wrong even after doing it so I'll have another one to work upon.

if nothing goes wrong so atleast i could convert it back to stock if i want to...
so i kept it at one side..

regarding p220's high beam reflector, which bulb socket does it have??
its all round from behind and can it take the heat of the 55w bulb??

by the way i feel the quality of the plastic is decent but not as good as the plastic of fiero f2's stock reflector..
and YES it is original, pulled out from the dome in front of my eyes...

it doesn't even have any clamps or screw holes to mount it an a surface, so i'll have to look for ways to do it..

regarding space it is very good, small sized, just the kind i was looking for, i placed the projector lens and the reflector side by side over the stock f2's reflector to just see how it would look like and it seems very well so far..

now the only think left to do it put everything together in a sturdy way....
i think that is the most difficult job of this mod so far.

I'll put everything together first and later will go for relays, wiring stuff...

To see road or just to glare on coming vehicles ??
Projector without shield makes no sense for rider but can glare high.
Halogen in projector without shield can be used for PASS LIGHT

There r many guages SS sheets available in market but sourcing it as small qty will be a pain so go to a SS fabrication unit and ask for a price and they will be happy to give u at scrap rate. Its got one side glossy finish with a plastic coating to save from scratches, once the work is finished u can peel it off and u'll get a shining piece of sheet.

All depends on ur lens length, my lens is 14cms long from top of the lens to the tightening screw at the bottom and we need another 1" free space in front for levelling else ur lens will touch the front glass and wont go up & down for beam levelling. But in ur case it can be achieved just by adding spacers on the base of the lens screws to lift up the lens for levelling if u use a sheet. Anyway space is the main constraint in this mod and we cant keep the projector neck outside bz of the water seepage.

Dude there r dedicated lenses for HBms too. Have a look around u'll find a few yes it should be costly, else everyone should've opted for that setup if a simple shield removal was enough. But there's nothing wrong if u can try out. Ofcourse, it cant beat a reflector in case of HBm capabilities.

For lighting up both beams u need to use SPST relays which r compact too. Low beam is on HID then SPST is a must else every beam change u'll reset the HID power.Flashing for HBm see the wiring with the switch assy. Use cable ties to make secure the cable joints intact and loose connection free as we'll not have proper cable connectors for these mods.

the reflector is conical, so fitting 2 things side by side would never give me a proper hold, hence i thought about the sheet and i plan to cut almost entire back conical reflector, all i would get doing so is atleast a flat surface by the edges of the reflector since its round...
if i can install the plate flat then fixing proj in it won't be a problem.
it would be easier than mounting brackets to hold the proj...

guys i am soooooo tempted to do that too, but i really don't think it would serve a good purpose...
maybe i don't have any technical knowledge, but simply look at cars, all high beams are REFLECTORS only.
since its tried and tested by those german cars r&d department so I'll stay with reflector for high beam...

i want my low beam to glow ALL the time, high beam of course when i switch to high beam (with low on)
but if headlight switch is OFF, no matter if adjusted to hi or low, and i hit the pass switch, i only want my reflector halo to glow.....

hence my reflector halo will glow without the low beam proj, only at hitting the pass switch it should be on all alone...

Its for the fellow XBHpians who r not known about the risk factors of an HID tube. Bcz once the tube is exploded while igniting, it can be fatal as the tube will be under high pressure so imagine what would happen if some one testing a naked HID bulb. It should be kept in a sealed beam or a projector or what ever to protect urself.

Hey dont take an alumn sheet, instead get a SS sheet so that it wont fade, alumn sheet is prone to oxidation and will look dull. But I must say the idea may not be practical as u may need the full length of the dome to fit a projector AFAIK. May be urs is a small one to accommodate with a Sheet.

BTW, why dont we use a lens without shield for a HB? Hey Shree what do say? U've one lens w/o the shield right? It should be a full circle projection right? I think it should serve the purpose. Try this too, may be this can be a good solution for our HB hunt.

4300 k is too good.i am using the same ballast and bixenon 4300 from navnish only.its too dammn good.just llok it from distance,it llooks very very posh like high end cars,the color is really magic,not too yellow not too white.

i never touched the bulb with my fingers even once...
i was holding the projector, and it was turning hot...
the golden yellow colour was awesome and can screw any light i have ever seen until now, even those blue tinge hid's

i did a lot of study about careful precautions to be taken.

tomorrow I'm heading to junkyard again to grab a 220's high beam reflector, if not available then I'll bring home corolla's headlight reflector....
I'm feeling tempted to grab another projector and put up a halo in it for high beam, but i know its not good for high beam so i can't

will keep you guys updated..
meanwhile i was thinking as how to put up those proj and reflector side by side.
my plan is to buy a 1 sq foot aluminum plate.
make 2 holes in it.
fit proj and reflector on those two holes.
cut the reflector exactly flat from behind and fit this plate nicely on it.
would not look messy too....

AN IMPORTANT NOTE TO EVERYONE:

Never ever hold an HID bulb for testing, Xenon gas is compressed at very high pressure and there r chances to explode which is fatal, if anything wrong with the bulb, so don't take any chances for ur safety.

When operating, the pressure inside an HID bulb is high due to the heat, which can reach 1,500 degrees Fahrenheit. Removing it from its assembly risks an explosion. An HID bulb must operate in a horizontal position or it could overheat. HID lights use a high voltage which could cause electrical burns, shock or electrocution. Lamps should be off before servicing, and servicing should not be done in wet weather. The ballast gets very hot, so you should avoid touching it. The oils on your fingers will cause the bulb to crack and break. Handle by the base only or wear gloves. If you do touch the bulb, clean the oil off with alcohol and allow to dry before using. Dude, its basic science that once u project thru a lens, the images will be inverted upside down and backwards right to left




Yes its the shield makes the cutoff and pls wait tiill its mounted properly on the bike before grinding off the shield for extra light.

HID takes a few secs to lightup in full brightness, during ignition the colour may be diff and light will be less but check for any diff once its stabilized ie; after 1 mins.

Well try this out, invert the projector and try to face it

Bcz of the shield the glare is cut off. You remove the shield and then you will hear hell lots of yelling on you with a HID in projector

The projector you have is meant only for low beam so the cutting off of glare is perfectly fine. Just make sure you ALIGN the projector very well while fitting it in the headlight assembly else what ever you do won't satisfy you as the visibility will be very low.

PS - Make sure the wires are fastened tightly. Lose connections can lead to extra heat also.

Yes the HID takes time to glow up to its full brightness and its only at the full brightness that we see its true color temperature. I use a 6000k HID. It starts as a purple light and within seconds it turns pure white and everything is as bright as day!!

I've attached my battery to the bracket very tightly and taped it nicely so that no vibrations and stuff would cause any problems as bracket was not meant to hold a 3 kg batt..

hence i couldn't bring the battery home, after removing it off from my bike to do stuff, to try hid in proj...

so i took everything down, opened my side cover and connected respectively.
i did take my cam, but holding the ballast, the projector and also simultaneously connecting the wires to +ve and -ve poles didn't give me room to grab the cam and take the snap..

I'll do it soon and post a pic, but meanwhile my first ever light up of the bulb was simply AWESOME.
soooooooo much brighter than the stock bulb...
the funny thing was that if the shied is on the top, it gives light on the top, if its at the bottom, then the light goes to bottom...
i thought it worked the other way around

but the shied cuts off a lot of light i feel.
of course the amount of light is quite sufficient but still it cuts of 50 % of the light.
i think more can be used coz bulb glows sooo much that one can't even look at it straight with naked eye.
but the amount of light on the road seems quite low (which though is decent) compared to what the bulb is capable of.

the spread was very even and calm.
no glares, even looking directly at lens was quite comfortable.

a strange thing happened in process, since i held the projector in my hand, it gave out white light initially i expected it to be a bit golden, temp being 4300k....
and in a minute or so, the projector started to heat up.... it was a bearable heat but as soon as it heated up it turned yellow with stronger light..

is this normal??
i held it for 2 more mins but it continuously heated up and then i stopped when i was scared that i won't be able to bear the heat..

so far i think shield is restricting a lot of light..
the light is soo much that high beam reflector with halogen in it may not make a difference on the road i think...

that doesn't mean that i won't put it...

Am a die hard projector fan so u got my ans. Well a dedicated H/L reflector will give better perfo than a combo H4. Convince with any of the cars having dual lamps like Vista (A real VFM killer package from Tata sorry for OT.) It can outperform an Amby 100W with dual 55W lamp as it can be lighted both if modded, of course u can mod an H4 too for dual beams, some cars have like Chevrolet where the pass switch can light up both, a true killer setup IMO to screw up the happiness of a high beam rider.

Now try to light up with the HID in the lens before going for the juggad

the quality of package from the outside and inside was AMAZING..
very well wrapped and it took me a lot of time to open it up...

i got 1 ballast
1 bulb
a clamp for holding the ballast
2 free ultra bright LED's (thanks navnish)
bolts, nuts etc...

i was soo eager to get it, finally i am also a proud owner of HID and projector, but its still time to attach everything in place...
