Bike self start is not working sometime.

Hi guys I’m having Bajaj Pulsar 180 dtsi of 2010 model. Approximately 21000kms over. The issue is like it is not picking the self sometimes, initially I thought that battery went down (Amaron), so I gave it for charging. But after that also the same issue continues. I tried to clean the battery head considering that salt/carbon might be getting deposited but no luck. To start the bike in that case I need to puch the bike in 1st gear and then start. What could be the issue?

    Modding a 2002 model Pulsar 180

My friend has a 2002 model Pulsar which is not in use. It has some issues that need to be addressed. The front disc brakes are jammed and there's some engine oil leak. I got inspired by this news item of someone modding a Pulsar 150 as a Café Racer:

Modified Bajaj Pulsar 150: We bet you can't make out this was a Pulsar earlier - The Financial Express

In addition to the repairs and expenses for modding, I also need to re-register the vehicle being 15 year old vehicle.

I hope it's worth the effort. What would be a fair price for the vehicle, considering the above expenditure (excluding the modding expenses)

KTM Dukes Indicators on Pulsar 180

    Greetings Riders.
I have been using My pulsar180cc since November 2012.Coming from using an Pulsar 150 2007 model it was adecent upgrade for me.I loved the Clip ons,Fatter tyres,Split seat,OpenChain,Front Mudguard,Split Grab Handle.
I am kind of Guy who lovesthe mods including changes in Asthetic rather than going for engine mods.I have done in total12-13 small and big mods on my bike.
Recently i have changed theIndicators which cut down some fat of my bike and also reduced Batteryconsumption of bike.
The indicators of the bikelook too bulgy and covers the look of the bike.I had many options in mind.Thereare many options present in after market from Too Funky to Too cheap.
But from Past many days KTMindicatos had caught my eye,due to its sleek design, only use of 3 LEDS and theAppearance it gives.
Hence it was decided to gofor it.But the Price was the mainissue, normal Pulsar 180 indicatos costs arount 200 Bugs but KTM indicators werearound 575,so it was the only reason I was hesistating little bit.
But once a mods comes in mymind i have to go for it.
Went Bajaj Service Stationand Got the indicators ,they had only 2 nos, that too rear ones.I was okey withthat because most of the people will be seing the rear section of the bike. Also it is very easyto change the rear ones rather than front. As opening the front headlightassembly is really a pain in rear.

your clutch switch is kaput, replace it (small switch in clutch yoke)

There is a white plastic switch near clutch lever. It gets smaller as you use clutch. It's responsible for starting the bike in gear. You need to get that changed. Same thing happened with me but instead of changing it I stuck another piece of plastic on top of it and it has worked perfect for many last years.

Check the clutch, it might be too loose. Also make sure you are depressing the clutch completely at the time of the gear change. Tighten if it's loose.

I have pulsar 180 UG4, purchased on 2012 (4 yrs 11 months old, no big trouble, super cool, ran 58000 kms, top speed before 4 months is 116 kmph)

My bike in last 3 months giving continous problem, Please be patience in reading and share your suggestion. It's like Sherlock investigation

    1. During Chennai to Bangalore road trip, the speed of the bike started gradually reducing which finally did not raise above 70. I can accelerate to full but speed did not cross 70 kmph. When checked with Bajaj service center on the way, he said it is a wiring problem, also said for now he will fix it, later completely rewire the bike. Bike was running fine but there is drop in mileage of about 10 kmpl usually i will get 40 to 45 kmpl.

    2. After 15 days, bike showed no pulling power which dint raise above speed 60.Now i checked with my nearby bajaj meachanic. I said the same to this guy, this happened 15 days before and that mechanic said wiring problem, he checked and said wiring is fine, he showed to me bike is on low engine oil. only 200ml is in bike. 800ml is lost in some 10 to 15 days, around 1000 kms of ride. Completely confused here. How wiring as a first issue and engine oil as second issue. After that Bike was not giving full pickup but was running smooth and not speeding above 90 .

    3. After 20 days, again bike dropped pickup and speed which is not rising above speed 45. Bajaj meachanic said replacing clutch plate will solve problem. Next day called me and said even clutch plate change has not solved, cylinder kit are the real issue, No need to re-bore. He changed the cylinder kit clutch plate. Bike was back to full power and speed. Running smooth and pickup is super good. He said next 50000 km no issues, it will be like a new bike from now on.

    4. After 25 days, Bike started slowly reducing the speed and pickup. Now the bike is not rising above speed 90. what i feel is acceleration and pickup of bike is not in sync. I can accelerate the bike to fullest, then speed picks up gradually but max is speed 90, not above that. I gave bike to him twice after that, he says small prob, wiring corrected but no change. No pickup and not rising above 90

Above all i understand that there is some electrical problem because in last 4 months old battery dead and recharged multiple times, new Amaron battery is dead in just 2 months which comes with 2 years warranty.

I have spend around 8000 but issue is not fixed. Please help me. Thanks in advance

My first guess after reading the first point was you ran the bike on low engine oil. It would have overheated causing damage to cylinder and pistons. Points 1-3 say the same thing. About 4, you are saying you are accelerating and you can see engine is raving on tachometer but speed slowly increasing. That happens when the clutch plates have gone kaput. Check If you are still running new plates or were old plates restored?

i am using pulsar 180 2012 running at 63k on odo.my gear shifing is pretty smooth apart from some gear slippage sometimes.
i have taken the bike to change the clutch plates and got them changed and since the ochanged oil is lost he changed it with a bad oil replaced from anoter bike
.the gears started before hard to shift, very hard .i was thinking because of bad engine oil but ,the later day i changed it to motul 300v.i have travelled 300km already on it and my gears are still hard to shift.what is the problem?did the bad oil damage any internal part of my engine>

Re: Bajaj Pulsar 180 (All Versions)

I contacted N1 Racing about NGK Iridium Spark Plug and MSD Ignition Cables. I asked them the price of NGK CPR8EAIX-9 Iridium Spark Plug and the MSD Cable. They told me that Spark Plug would cost 650 Rupees and the Cable would cost 750 Rupees. Should I go for it? Or is there anything better than this one? Is the model number I mentioned will be compatible with my 180 2015 UG4? And I don't know anything about the Cable model. But they told me the price only. I asked them for explanation. I haven't received mail yet. Is there a ready model cable for my bike or I have to mod something out to get the MSD working on my bike? Please let me know.

Also! I have K& N R 1100 filter installed with pipes. I don't wanna change exhausts. Is there anything else that I can change to improve bike performance and mileage? Please let me know.

    Pulsar 180 low top speed

I recently took my dad's unused pulsar 180 UG3 and gave it an overhaul.I replaced the carburettor, airfilter, spark plugs and clutch plates. But the bike doesn't run like other motorcycles of the same model.

I can't cross 105 kmph even on a slope with no headwind while the top speed of a pulsar 180 is around 125kmph.I also find the speeds don't match the rpms.

    It does 80kmph@7000rpm with 10kmph rise for every 1000rpm until it hits 9500 rpm redline at 5th gear.It is supposed to do 90kmph @ 7000rpm and 105kmph @ 8000rpm at 5th gear.

    Its power and torque are 16.5ps @ 8000rpm and 15.22Nm @ 6000rpm.

The 5th gear ratio is 8.98:1 (24/26) ,the final drive ratio is 2.80:1 (43/15) and primary reduction 3.47:1 (66/19).

I thought the problem was clutch slippage and replaced the worn out clutch plates but the problem still persists. The clutch lever free play is according to specs in the owners manual.Even the dealership isn't able to identify the problem.

I am unable to maintain cruising speeds on the highway without redlining the engine.

I have posted this problem all over the internet with nobody able to suggest a fix.Would be grateful if somebody from xbhp can identify the cause and suggest a fix.
