Not really. For eg. City Motors here uses the bottled 900 ml HH oil (Idemitsu). Thats where I finally got the HH oil for my bike. I refused to let my dealer use their "cow-piss" in my bike, under any circumstances... LoL!

I'v seen this at other dealers also - my TVS dealer ASC seems to use only 900/1000 ml TVS oil bottles for its customers. Saw loads of the bottles littered around the workshop...

Btw, the service centre I ranted about is a fairly big one... no issues about that. But the level of service is DESPICABLE!

You cant really tell much about the viscosity of oils just by feeling it! If this were possible, one wouldnt need UOA labs... Lol! Plenty of room for self deception there, beware!!

Racoon, what I mean to say about getting to know about the viscosity by touching is, it is not that you get a viscosity value by touching, you can feel it. Try taking on old used oil and new oil back to back. You would definitely feel the difference. If you say you cannot, I cannot help it. I regualrly check the quality of the oil of both my car and bike in the same way.

I accept there are authorized service ceters who use cans. Of course, it is good that you have got it.

Sarbanoxley, you cannot just blindly say your bike is not going beyond 100kmph is because of the oil. They might have played up with your bikes tuning. Of course, anything is possible.

I know what you mean! What Im saying is that its not an accurate method of determining anything! At best you can get a crude idea. For eg. try mixing new oil with some percentage of old used oil. You will NOT be able to tell the difference just thru touch or visual inspection... esp. if the new oil is also of a dark colour.

Actually this happens automatically everytime when you pour in new engine oil into your bike. CBZ-x for eg. has about 300 - 400 ml oil that cannot be drained the usual way. So in effect you are always mixing 900 ml new oil with 300 ml or more of old oil. Now visually inspect a small sample of the oil in your bike and some oil directly from the bottle. Can you tell the difference? Not likely...

Many people also claim to be able to figure out when oil needs changing in their vehicle, the quality of oil, etc., etc. Fact is, you CANT tell thru touch/sight!!! Its much more complicated than that.

I cannot prove you and also I do not want to. If you cannot make it, it doesnot mean no other can do. There are so many good mechanics who will tell with just a touch of the oil. I believe we can make it out with some experience, and I am doing the same. If you sit and say, you cannot, I cannot do anything.

I kept the bike for only 2 days.i thought my bike was a defective one.
the dumbest part was me taking the bike to the SAME service center ,this time their was another supervisor(so many of them their) inspected the bike and said ur fuel line has some problem something was blocking its flow,
tappet noise is their thats why ur pickup is low.He saved the best for last he asked me to bring the bike tomorrow so that everything could be sorted out during the "service".As he was not aware of the fact that i had the said "service" done @ their place only 2 days back. me and my bike quietly ESCAPED from that place.I checked the oil 1st it was not even in the MINIM UM mark level.i was forced to use a thin branch as the dipstick to check if any oil was present.The mech was shocked that this "oil" was only 2 days old.
@ravi yep the mech fiddled with the bike for an hr.after that he recommended i change the cow piss.which i did.But i have one thing to say about HERO HONDA service:i have seen worse on my honda UNICORN
their service was HORRIBLE.They even cheated me by charging 1200 bucks as installation charges for a 550 bucks roots horn.The service center was DIDAR MOTORS chennai.

Does that service station has provision for watching the service area from customer lounge?? The next time you go, shout at them for what they have done. Tell them you are going to complain to the Zonal officer.

Ask the supervisor to do service in the presence of you when you go next time.

Right now, change the engine oil that they have poured. Fill what you like.

Authorized service center guys should not do any extra fittings to bike. I think the mechanic did get some quick bucks by fitting the hella horns.

Never ever leave your bike just like that to mechanic and say service it. You specifically ask them to do what you want and see that all is written in the job card. When you take the bike back, just check all the things and if anything is not done, you can blast them. This way they come into the way. Once I did the same and I insisted to do them infront of me right away.

The bike is yours and you need to take care of it. Do not expect them to do everything. If you learn this, you will be happy.

Thats really terrible. You should have called Hero Honda and made a formal complaint and insist that the company service engg. meet you at that service centre and show him the mess there!

Another thing I'v learnt is not to argue and crack your skull with the lower rung of people too much. Head for the guy on the top of the hierarchy.

today i changed my engine oil. its castrol aktiv 20w40. service guy said its no problem. is it? should i drain it or use it for this time only.
i'm on a tour so u know i dont wanna get into troubled with this

Its strange how many times this question gets asked... even when the company goes to the extent of putting stickers on petrol tanks, right under the nose of customers, indicating the oil to be used.

Service guys are not the people to look to for advice... at least 99% of them are not.

Please use ONLY 10W30 oil of min. API SJ.

they recommends 10w30 but i've already poured it. cant i use them for another 1k kms? will that f..k the engine.

I'd suggest you drain it out... esp. since you are going on a long tour. As for f..king the engine, you may or may not notice anything in the short term (& that dosen't mean there is no damage!). Though some people say that it can affect top speed and vibes...

Please don't stick on too much to the book. The real world is a bit flexible and a bit more complex at the same time...

An oil for an Engine is never mated directly. It is done with a lot of external factors considered. For more, please start this over in Engine oils thread.

i touched the leaking stuff seems to be oil. is this thing serious my oil level has dropped like 50% from the max. mark.my oil is only 400kms old.what to do now

another suggestion please check the chart in ur manual that shows a variety of engine oil grades suitable for the range of ambient temperatures.
Strangely one thing that i noticed is that the manual of the unicorn shows 10w30 grade oil to be used for ambient temp ranging between -10deg centigrade to 30+deg centigrade.Unicorn and cbx share the same engine,accept for some tweaks
