dont paint directly over the rust. you have to first sand down the rusted area, and then apply a coat of red oxide followed by a coat or two of spray (available in cans) or enamel paint - you can buy these stuff at almost any hardware store.
btw, where exactly is the rust ? If its under the panels and not visible outside, you could apply a thin layer of grease around the area that's prone to rust. get hold of the nulon grease spray..it isnt as thick as regular grease.

And yes, you can buy just the side stand spring from any local spares shop.. should cost you around 20 bucks.

Not sure about the brake cam lever but my guess is around Rs150.
Check if there is sufficient pad material, and if so, slightly rub the brake shoes with some sandpaper or a hacksaw blade and clean the drum surface with some petrol.
The cost of the stock air filter is around 170rs , a bit cheaper if you are able to buy it from a local spares shop. But beware, a lot of fakes in 'oem packaging' are being sold by local spare shops.. i was conned a few months ago.

yep a lot of things to be done.

including rear tyre and rim change.

another question. rear rim seems to be a bit bent. should i get it fixed or just buy a new one and chuck this off ?
if the bend is at the lip you can easily get it hammered and set in place.. i had a similar damage probably due to hitting a stone and tire pressure was probably low. but if the wheel is not tru but rust free, try to get it fixed.. if its rusted, get it replaced. i guess a new rim is around 500rs.
if you notice a wobble and feel that the rim in bent, in most cases it is the rear wheel bearing that has gone bad. to replace this bearing, the gearbox has to be opened. a simple job but make sure you use the oem bearing.

    3. shell ax5 20w40 .. wonderful oil. did a couple of long runs (to nagarjun sagar) with this oil
    4. Castrol activ scooter.. 20w40 JASO MB gearless scoot specific grade (no longer available).. i would say the best IMO.
    5. Castrol activ scooter 10w30 JASO MB (replaced the 20w40 mentioned above). No complaints, scoot used mostly for short runs these days.
    6. Finally, motul 3000. 20w40, currently on this oil.. seems to have taken a minor hit on the fe again.. refinement as good as ever. 6 months since oil change, done around 2500km.. oil change and service due this weekend (weather permitting)

Conclusion.. these scooters (or for that matter most engines) are happy with regular oil changes.. And don't forget to change the gear box oil (use the ep90 oil.. i get mine from bharat petroleum, mak spirol ep90)

Since it has been sitting idle, i suggest you get the carb, clutch side opened and cleaned up and change both the oils.

So how much would it cost to replace the lever on the hub as its rusted during the rains?
How much does stock air filter cost?

Re: Honda Dio, Activa and Aviator

I have a pleasure 2007 model clocked 23000, assuming its copy of 1st generation active. One of my cousin was not using this regularly. Thought to use for short distance rides. Once I bought her home took to the neighborhood mechanic. Gave a proper pressure wash, cleaned 2 filters, poured new Castrol oil (recommended for active), changed all suspension bushed, engine mounts.

Now its runs far better than the day one. I am still not satisfied with the initial pick up. There is no blue smoke. When I complained about the issue, mechanic opened the clutch and cleaned with sand paper both the shoes and drum.

There is no improvement, guys please help in diagnosis of the root cause.

    Thanks
    Sri

The manufacturer recommended grade is 10w30 and the capacity for a drain and refill is around 750~800ml.
You have plenty of choices for the oils:
    1. Honda's 10w30 (comes in a golden brown bottle)
    2. Castrol activ scooter 10w30
    3. Motul scooter le 10w30
    4. Shell ax5 scooter engine oil 10w30

All these above are mineral oils in JASO MB grades.. i.e. specifically made for use in gearless scooters (and should never be used in geared motorcycles, MA/MA2 grades for motorcycles with wet clutches.)
These oils cost around 280rs for 800ml.

Dios from 2013 new model don't have pipe in Air filter box for fitting aftermarket filters. so i had to fabricate a pipe for the filter, and fit the filter on it. then I closed the air filter box. and milage decreased. and I also didn't get any performance improvements.so i opened the filter box and kept few centimeters Gap between filter box and it's cap.I noticed alot of improvement in both average and pick up and I still haven't upjetted my carburetor.
So I wanted to ask if it's safe to keep that Gap? I ride mostly in urban areas. and should I still upjet my carburetor? if yes then what's the stock main jet size? and which size will be sufficient to make fuel optimum?

also, I wanted to know that which ngk iridium spark plug will fit in my engine? can someone give me a model number? and can I get it online?

I'm gonna do more mods soon. will keep you guys updated if anyone have interest. Usually people stop helping when they hear someone modding a scooter. but that's all I have. my parents are against 2 wheelers so I'm not gonna get any new 2 wheeler. so I've decided to Make my current dio a powerful wheelie machine. That's why asking for your help. thanks in advance. any help is appreciated.
don't expect miracles with an spark plug, air filter change and upjet (good luck finding jets here).
as for the spark plug.. again good luck finding the iridium variant.. below are part numbers for the ngk variants for the new dio.
    CPR7EA-9 CPR7EAGP-9 CPR7EAIX-9
some other important components that MUST be changed/upgraded for peppier performance would be:
    1. variator/rollers set (mix n match weights)
    2. clutch component.. especially the springs (big and small)
    3. performance cdi unit.. lots of chinese stuff available online. you could give them a try.
and maybe a free flow air filter and 1 size upjet ( i don't think the stock carb can take in too much of a mod)

The first two are a must if you want any decent improvement in peppiness.

You can learn more about scooter mods/how things work here Tech Talk with Mo!

    Update:
    look what i found : http://www.amazon.in/Iridium-CPR7EAI.../dp/B00S9P095E

The price of the iridium plug is around 500-600rs.. the deals above are bundled with air filters. check the ngk india website to locate a dealer in your city https://www.ngkntk.in/ Try your luck
