Re: Royal Enfield Desert Storm!
When I visited Royal Enfield Brand Store, Chennai, some days back, I saw a brand new DS display bike parked in the show-room. I discussed with the stores manager about the differences between the old DS and the new ones. He told me that paint quality has definitely improved in the new DS made in the new plant at Oragadam. Secondly, the petrol tank shape has been changed although the volume remains the same. Apart from these two differences, there is nothing else different in the new DS.Originally posted by mani View Post---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Re: Royal Enfield Desert Storm!
So I visited the RE Bandra showroom and asked the sales guy if there have been any changes made in the new DS 500. He said there were none. I was relieved! Then just as I was leaving, a mechanic outside the showroom was helping a customer with delivery of a new DS 500. I asked this guy the same question, and to my surprise he said "Yes, yes! Changes have been made!" - The shape of the tank is different, slightly broader, although fuel capacity is unchanged. The hole in/for the air filter box has been made larger coz there were some complaints that the bike misfires. And the cover of the front shock-absorber has been adjusted as it was touching some other part that it should not have been.
So... since the second hand bike is only saving me around 15-20k, it makes more sense to me to book a new DS.
What say?

Re: Royal Enfield Desert Storm!
Don't know the detailed info but the rule says that no other vehicle can have the olive green colour except the ones registered as defence vehicles. Even serving defence personnel can't paint their bikes in the army colour. That is the reason why the Desert Storm can't be sold in the U.S. of A and Military Green can't be sold in India.Originally posted by Pinaki View PostAny specific info on the Rule or Law which defines "army colour" and prevents it's sale here ?
Oh and by the way, i've booked a DS on 16th Feb. Official waiting is 6 months now in Pune with an OTR price of 1,74,000/- odd. Plus the cost of accessories like crash guard and off-road (upswept) silencer.

Nice pics, Revit. Congratulations and best wishes to you and your friend. BTW, how did your DS behave while riding on the beach sand? I am toying with the idea of riding to Dhanushkodi beach on my Thunderbird 500, hence this question.Originally posted by Revit View PostSome pitcures of my Dust Devil.

Re: Royal Enfield Desert Storm!
Dear J. Ravi ,
Sorry for my delayed response. We never actually rode on the sand. The picture is a bit deceptive. We stopped short of the sand in an area which had a little harder earth. But I'm told that if the tyres are deflated a bit and the motorcycle ridden at a certain speed it should be able to handle a bit of loose beach sand.
I have read quite a lot of your travelogues on team bhp and your blue bird.
A ride to dhanushkodi sounds exciting. Happy riding.
You could check out the eat sleep ride app on the iPhone to help automatically map the route / speed/ time taken on any trip.

I will test-ride my bird on a small stretch of sand at Marina beach before taking a call on my Dhanushkodi trip.Originally posted by Revit View PostWe stopped short of the sand in an area which had a little harder earth.

STORY OF 27 Horses- MY desert storm
Hi My Fellow XBHPians,
After my introduction here, this is my second Thread. I have been thinking to start a ownership thread for a long time. But some personal things keeps me busy.
Now its the time to start ownership review of my buddy.
Just before 9 month i was not having any plan to buy a BULL for my self.
One of my colleagues brought a Classic-350, he gave a small party for the same, and he allowed me to ride his BULL. Oh man that was awesome. i never forget my first BULLET ride.
After that incident , i started dreaming about my rides on BULLET. But never serious about the purchase. One day i made a visit to a showroom( Marikar)in Trivandrum to test ride classic 350 but they were only having classic 500 test ride. So i took test ride of classic 500,i got amazed due to the mind blowing pulling.
So in my HEART i fixed "yes it is, it will be my next ride". But in my HEAD is like " You already having two 2 wheeler, why you need another one, instead of that you can go for a CAR"
This fight went on almost the last week of the delivery of my BULL. In between i searched various forms about the pros and cons of classic500.I came to know about XBHP and joined here.
Even i did test ride of CBR250. But some how i feel like it is not the right one for me.
SO on 3rd FEB-2014 " THE D-DAY" i got my BULL.
Here is the first picture of my BUDDY.
