    Re: Royal Enfield Desert Storm!

[QUOTE=J.Ravi;1069895]I will test-ride my bird on a small stretch of sand at Marina beach before taking a call on my Dhanushkodi trip.

    Dear J.Ravi ( of Bluebird Fame )

Did you manage to go down to Dhanushkodi on your Bluebird ? How was the road and route taken if you did the trip. I was reading somewhere that the Pamban bridge is one of the top 10 memorable roads to ride on in India.

No, not yet. But, I will do it in the near future. I will post the details in my thread as soon as my ride is done.

I propose to take Chennai>Trichy>Pudukottai>Karaikudi>Rameswaram>Dha nushkodi route for the up journey and Melur route for the return journey. I understand the roads are good until Dhanushkodi town.

Yes, I drove to Rameswaram many years back in my car. Pamban road bridge and the railway bridge are engineering marvels.

          Re: Royal Enfield Desert Storm!

Am looking forward to buying the Royal Enfield Classic Desert Storm ( once I recover from the ligament injury )

I have to ask though, saw one RE DS from distance today, the colour looked really faded and dull, do the owners feels the paint gets really dull with time?

I went against getting the Ash colour one because I thought it's paint would look bad after its shine is gone, whereas the DS will look even more rugged...

Now its the time to start ownership review of my buddy.

Just before 9 month i was not having any plan to buy a BULL for my self.
One of my colleagues brought a Classic-350, he gave a small party for the same, and he allowed me to ride his BULL. Oh man that was awesome. i never forget my first BULLET ride.

After that incident , i started dreaming about my rides on BULLET. But never serious about the purchase. One day i made a visit to a showroom( Marikar)in Trivandrum to test ride classic 350 but they were only having classic 500 test ride. So i took test ride of classic 500,i got amazed due to the mind blowing pulling.
So in my HEART i fixed "yes it is, it will be my next ride". But in my HEAD is like " You already having two 2 wheeler, why you need another one, instead of that you can go for a CAR"

This fight went on almost the last week of the delivery of my BULL. In between i searched various forms about the pros and cons of classic500.I came to know about XBHP and joined here.
Even i did test ride of CBR250. But some how i feel like it is not the right one for me.

            SO on 3rd FEB-2014 " THE D-DAY" i got my BULL.

Here is the first picture of my BUDDY.
            Congrats on your ride.
I have booked a Std 500 from marikar Trivandrum last week. Waiting period they agreed is before 2 Months but in the booking slip I see its after 2 months. So there is some difference in what written and agreed.
How was your delivery and service at Marikar. When Concept came at TVM kazkaootam, most sales goes to concept so I think Marikar will give better service.

              Hi Abhishek,
I took my BULL from Arun Agencies at Karamana. Now they shut down their showroom. My Cousin took his Classic350 from Marikar, it took around 7 month.
Now i am in Bangalore, so i am not much aware of the service quality of any the service station.
But as per my cousin's opinion Marikar service is not that much good.
Hope this helps. Std500 is very good choice.. Which color you are taking.?
I clocked around 15000Km in 1year2month time. So far , i have not paid any extra Rupee for maintaining my BULL apart from regular service cost.
              Happy riding.. good choice..

              Thankz

I booked battle green, I am ok with both colors.
As I heard marikar is good in poor service and delayed delivery, as a back up will book for black at concept kazhakootam this week. Lets see which one will choose me. Will cancel the other.

Need suggestions on how to tune the Idling speed of Royal Enfield Classic Dessert Storm 500 EFI

                        Guys,
I bought the Royal Enfield Classic Dessert Storm last week.
I am very much passionate about the bike. But I am depressed as since the delivery the bike seems to take air in low RPMs.... I talked to the Service manager about it , but he says its fine.... He test drived the bike harshly. But , I dont like the harsh driving always. Its a Royal Enfield, it should be driven with love.. But while doing that, it sometimes starts off.... The engine wouldn't start with the ignition button without hold the throttle a little, the same is the case with the kick start. Again, while riding it, if the hold the clutch down when there is a bump, next time I give the throttle , it turns off..... While holding the throttle in low RPMs, the sound and feel it gives is like of that when a bike is out of fuel.... Please help me on how I should be solving it.
                        Thank You.

Hi Nilanjan, first off all congrats on getting the 'Storm. Now I'm no expert as I myself has only ridden ~2200kms and ~3.5months on my 'Storm. But from your post I feel, may be you are worrying too much. First of all I don't understand what you mean by "taking air in at low rpms". So can't comment on that. Regarding your second point, about bike not starting without applying a little throttle, even my bike was like that. I feel this is because, the idle rpm is set a bit high from factory, that will be lowered after first service. So I feel this issue will resolve itself. do note to always start from Neutral. In my early days, I used to stall a lot, especially in traffic (my 'Storm was also my first ride) and many times while starting from first, it would not start without applying a little throttle.

From further reading your post, I feel that you are lugging your engine. Raising the throttle during run-in is bad, but lugging your engine is even worse. The UCE engine in our RE's are not like old bulls, where you could go dug-dug at ~20kmph in 4th gear. Our UCE gearboxes are much more refined and precise (I never had any false neutrals between 2-5), so do use it and shift down and use engine braking while slowing down for speed bumps, etc. So do ride your bike more, keep varying the speeds during your run-in, instead of keeping constantly riding at 50kmph. The more you ride, the better it gets. Happy riding.

                            RD 350 handlebar in Hyd.

                            Hi,

I am looking for an RD 350 handlebar for my Royal Enfield desert storm in Hyderabad.

I live near Chandanagar. What would be the best place to find it?

                              Re: Royal Enfield Desert Storm!

After about 20 days of waiting, I finally got the Desert Storm on 27th Jan 2017. I was expecting the waiting period to be much longer(more than a month), but was pleasantly surprised when I got a call from RE back-office saying my bike was ready and could take delivery once I made the full payment. I immediately rushed to the dealer and completed the formalities. The processing would take 2 days. At around 3.30 PM on 27th, I could see it in flesh. My family was there with me too for the special moment.

Its much too early for a complete review. I have completed 100 KM so far and have been very satisfied. Yes, I do have the slight knocking sound which the dealer said would go away after the first service. The back brakes were very spongy, but that was fixed as well.

                              A couple of clicks.
