Note down the bearing number (the one stamped on the bearing) and ask at a local spares shop or an skf dealer in your area.
You might also find a similar bearing from other companies such as nbc. Just use the part number stamped on the bearing.
I searched all over the SKF website, and could not find a bearing with this serial number. Also tried a partial search - no luck. If anyone can help, I would appreciate greatly.

If anyone can help, PM me. I am willing to pay for the parts, shipping and something for your time.

      Hi Krishna,
It might be available here at Dehradun. and i can ship you that too. Once i reach back home ! For the meanwhile what you can do is file a complain at this no.
      1800 266 0018
HeroMotorcorp will register your complain and make sure the part gets shipped within days ! I had my slide needle at the SVC within 3days of complain when i didn't received it for a month !

And as far as the steering races and bearings are concerned many of the Impulses have the issue of these wearing out overtime ! But several impulses haven't reported such issues too. 30000+ kms on the ODO and they are yet running on the stock bearings taking abuses offroad still ! My impulse has the same issue of what you and many others are experiencing of handle bearings getting loose very often !

So maybe its not the steering races/bearings that are faulty but the assembling procedure which is getting those loose every now and then and thus wearing off ! Just saying !

The 17th Raid De Himalaya 2015

2002 was when heard of it from my boss who retired from the racing scene after a terrible accident at Raid the Himalayas. 2007 the named popped up again when I met Prashy who had just returned from raid and all I could do was drool over his bike. That moment onward my ears would stand up every time I hear the word Raid. I took suggestion from lot of people and bought myself a Hero impulse. 2015 I finally registered myself in Alpine and started preparing myself. I ran in the group D which is for stock bikes without any changes. Me and my friend Ashish landed at chandigarh where our stay was arranged by our friend Jojo. Next day we picked ours bikes and met with our back up incharge. By evening we left Chandigarh and headed for Shimla. Reached Shimla at night and next day morning we went to raid office as there was some discrepancy in the form I had submitted. By the time we were done it was evening and we were already running a day late on our recce. We got the GPS fixed on our bikes, started late in the evening just to stop few kms before the start of the first leg. The first day had 3 stages which we planned to do in one day. Next day we did the first and the second stage but by then it had turned dark so we decided to halt in a village called Ani. Next morning we did the third stage, which was the famous Jalori pass. This is where I realised my bike was losing power and wasn’t climbing well. The bike wouldn't go past the first gear. We lost a lot of time because of the traffic on the road and due to our GPS glitch. We reached mandi and halted there for the night. The 3 stages that we had done in 2 days were supposed to be done in a day apart from riding to Manali. We had lost a lot of time and had no other choice so we headed back to Chandigarh to get our bikes fixed. Next day morning we reached the Hero service center where they said they didn’t have parts for our bikes and were not sure if our bikes would be ready by end of day. So our friend Jojo took us to his local mechanic with whom we sat the whole day and fixed our bikes. We were 5 people competing this year for 17th Raid de Himalayas from our club and one of themwas Bruce. Bruce Reached chandigarh that night and met up with us. Bruce's dad and uncle along with our friend Jackson drove down from mumbai to be his back up. We all went back to our hotel and met with Junaid, Vishwas and gang who were competing this year too. We chatted that night over few drinks while Junaid and gang shared their tips on rallying. Next morning we got our bikes washed and went and dropped our luggage in the back up vehicle. I had taken backup from Raid Legend Yogesh Lakhani who was kind enough to guide us every time we needed help. By the time we left Chandigarh it was 7pm and we had our scrutiny next morning. Me, Bruce and Ashish rode together while Bruce’s dad drove ahead in the backup vehicle. Once we reached the ghats, Bruce’s chain broke andall the spares were in the car ahead. Once his dad came back for us we replaced the chain but we did it in a leisurely way while having snacks and tea. We had wasted enough time there, we rode that night in that chili wheather. By the time we reached Shimla it was 2am so we found a hotel and crashed. Next day morning I got up early and cleaned my bike, wore my riding gear, took the kit and reached the parc ferm at 8.30 got our scrutiny done and were asked to report at Hotel Peterhoff. We got our accommodation details there. Next day was the press event followed by the briefing. By the time we were done it was already 8pm. We reached the hotel quickly and while Ashish and others were busy working on their bikes, I went to get some copies and other medicals supplies sorted. The Mahindra, tvs, ceat and lot of other teams were staying in the same hotel. It was a chaotic atomosphere at the hotel from two days. The team TVS mechanics were working on the bikes nonstop. People constantly revving and taking test rides of their bikes. Even the scooters where more powerful than my 150cc bike. Shamim khan was flying with his scooter on the hotel slope where my Impulse would barely climb. There was so much energy around that everyone was out in the parking lot. Next morning we had the start so that night everyone went to bed with the butterflies flying in their stomach. We slept by 2am and were up at 2.45am to report to the perc ferme by 3.30.

              Day 1 Shimla –dalog – chamola-luhri-behna-khanag- manali =300 kms
I walked out of the room and saw people had already left. I got ready and reached my bike to see someone had broken the tail end of my bike. So the whole taillight assembly with the number plate was hanging loose. I tied it with a bungy cord and climbed the deadly slope of the hotel. Parked it on top and heard a bike fall. It was Shamims scooter, the bike fell and the kick pedal broke. He was not able to start the bike and we had just 5mins left to reach. Sanjay volunteered to tow the scooter so me and Ashish left. Flying past me was Nataraj from team TVS( raid de himalaya champion 2014) alongside Arivind KP. These guys just shot past me while I was squeezing all the juice of my throttle. I parked the bike at Perc ferme just in time and signed the roll sheet. A few minutes later saw Ashish and few locals , pushing Shamims bike up the Perc ferme slope. So I went and helped them, once we reached Shamim hugged Ashish and thanked everyone for their help. It was 3.40am, we were just busy waiting for our turn. The gypsy’s were the first to roll out followed by the extreme category bikes. Waiting in that cold on an empty stomach was a task in itself. Me, Ashish and few others from the Ceat team went to a nearby chaiwala for some chai. Finally at 7.15 my number was called and in next few minutes I rode out to the start of the first stage.I was Maneuvering though the tiny streets of shimla which full of people in a hurry to reach their office. I was not in the rat race for a change but was busy calculating time left to reach the start of stage1. I reached the stage start and saw a rider heading towards me, it seems his helmet had rolled down the slope and he was going back to get it. Our start was delayed cause a gypsy had toppled and one of riders Mohit verma had met with an accident.

Stage start 1: Dalog to Chamola: I had done my recce for this stage so knew it was a tough one but all the jeeps and bikes before me had made it worst. Every turn I was busy dodging stones and pieces of glass as one mistake and I would have gone slipping down the valley. The villagers were all waiting by the side of the road for the competitors. At one such place there were few kids playing in the field which was on a elevated surface next to the track . On seeing the bike they all came running to the edge and a kid who was standing in the front got pushed and fell he fell in front of my bike. I tried controlling but knew I wouldn’t be able to stop. I jammed my brakes and the vehicle skid missed the kid and went and hit a rock. I got up, picked the kid and asked him if was fine, then I asked the kids to stay from the track. I checked the bike in a glance and left. After few kms I saw Anoop fallen from his bike, I slowed down and he said he was fine so I picked up pace again. What I had failed to realise is that the last fall had bent my front rim and in one of the turns when I leaned the bike I got washed out. This was terrible! I was in the first stage with a badly bent rim. I had an extra wheel in the backup vehicle and was hoping for it to be in the vehicle which was waiting for us at the end of stage. I somehow finished the stage and reached my backup team. Luckily the rim was in the van so we quickly changed the wheel and was off to the start of the next stage. I reached the start and was waiting for my turn when I saw Vikas who had broken his clutch cable and wanted tools of fix it. To my dismay all I had on my bike was a spark plug and a spark plug spanner. His start time had already crossed but none of us had tools to help him. I met Hiten from team Ceat, this guy was flying with his scooter and was well ahead of others in his category.
Stage 2: luhri – behna: I started my second stage and just after a few kms, I over took the bike who left before me. All of a sudden I had more faith in my riding skills. This stage was really good for me as I over took two bikes. Things were great but the worst was yet to come, the Jalori pass.
I finished the second stage without a fall and headed for the third stage start.
Stage 3:Chimni- Khanag: I had put the smallest main jet I had and was hoping that this would do the trick. The villagers were building the roads so there were lot of stretches with stones laid on the track. This was scary as all the stones where laid vertical which could cut the tyres open and it was quite a rickety ride. I knew I had just 10 odd kms after which the bike would start to loose power. I rode as fast as possible and over took 2 bikes in the first 10 kms but was scared they would catch up on me on my worst phase. The main jet was helping a bit but as I climbed the altitude the bike would refuse to go on the second gear. There was a stretch where I had to get off and push the bike. All I could do now was use the downhill slope to my advantage and maintain the momentum. I had over worked the 1st gear and managed to reach Jalori top where the stage ended. I was very happy to have completed the stage without being over taken by any other competitor. I started riding down with a few participants amongst them was Asif on his scooter. This guy really knew how to ride the scooter. At the end of the day there were just two participants in the scooter category left and Asif was leading. Few of us we rode out together and then I saw Ashish who had stopped at the side of the road. I met with him had some water and we left for Manali. By the time we reached it was dark so I filled up fuel at pump to avoid trouble the next day. The locals were real rash with their driving skills and everyone wants to race with you seeing the stickers on ur bike. I reached the end of stage and waited for our back up to reach. The results were out and we rushed to Mr. Gurjinder and Rupy who helped us to understand the results. It 9.30 and we were still waiting for the back up vehicle for our clothes and to get our bikes fixed. I met Vikas who came in the back vehicle. He somehow managed to reach the back up vehicle with a broken clutch cable but had run out of time. I met Junaid whose Triumph tiger’s clutch side casing cracked, ending the race for him. Vishwas had met with an accident and broken his ankle, we helped him unload his bike from the truck. The guy from Bangalore who lost his helmet in the first stage, could not find his helmet and was not given a start. You feel sorry for them as every one of them is a good rider and put in a lot of time, money, efforts and commitment in this race but where not able to complete it. Vishwas was cool about it and said this is all a part of the race you just need to accept it. Met a lot of people who thought me what true sportsmanship is all about. I saw Anoop walking in his torn riding gear but thankfully with no serious injury. We fixed our bikes had dinner and went to bed by 12. We all slept with the happiness of not being DNF that night. Next day again we got up at 3 and all reported at the starting line.

              ----consecutive posts auto-merged-----

The last Photo was taken at end of day 1.

              Day 2: Manali-baggi-katindi-jatingri- Dalhousie: 400kms approx
The restaurant wasn’t open, we filled water from a tap and stood by our bikes. All five of us from the club had cleared day one. I met Nosh who was riding a WR250, who had a tiff with some locals the previous night. A lady with a kid ran into him trying to cross the road. The marshals reached there and apparently had to shell out money to end the matter. This was a regular practice by some locals to make quick money. The first stage was cancelled due to some reason and we were asked to move to the second stage directly. I was given a start at 7.16 that day and me a SP rode together to reach the stage start. My bike was acting weird so I stopped to check and found the carb manifold was damaged. I had learnt my lesson from day one and was carrying few spares and tools today. I changed the manifold and started riding but my nightmare was just about to begin. My carb slide got stuck. I stopped and couple of time open the side panel to just free the carb and continued. Watching all the participant go past by was was building pressure. I decided to reach the stage start and then fix the carb. As the first stage was cancelled my GPS goofed up a couple of time and landed me on the wrong road. I reached the start somehow and checked I had some time in hand. I opened the carb to clean it. Few locals came and stood near me and started with their queries I answered a few and continued fixing the carb. One of them decided to sit on the bike to take a picture. The bike moved dropping all the screws. I had 10mins left and this was is not what I had expected . I asked them to stay away from the bike and frantically started searching for the screws. I was just one screw short from closing the carb luckily I found it and fixed the carb in its place.

Stage 4: This stage was very tricky as it started with smooth tarmac , with blind turns waiting for u with a surprise. During raid it’s a normal to find broken glass, indicators, plastic parts indicating a fall of the previous participants. I still was doing good when at one turn there was oil spilt and as I leaned my bike at the turn it skid we be both dragged to the edge of the valley. I held on to the bike as we skid as I was scared it would go down the valley but luckily we got saved by an inch. My leg was stuck under the bike but my boots had saved my leg from being twisted. I somehow freed my leg and got up checked the bike checked the bike for damages and left. While riding I kept thinking how foolish was I to hold on to the bike as it would have dragged be down with it. I knew I had lost time as nosh who had left 4mins after me had caught up. We completed the stage and i asked where was SP. SP had a fall too at a similar turn. We fixed nosh's bike while SP reached with a broken brake pedal.
We rode together to his back up got his bike fixed and rode down stage end. My stock bike was not able to keep up with the others and my slide got stuck again. I stopped to fix it and tried to catch up with the guys. Sp, Vishak and gang had stopped to grab a bite I continued as I was not sure about my slide. We had a long 218 km transport stage and I could not risk to waste time. The road was straight with a visibility of good km or so. I saw an alto parked on the left hand side of the road and there were no vehicles around. I was riding at 70 and suddenly the alto decides to take a blind right. I swerved to my right but like a blind bat the alto hit throwing me in front of the car and the bike being dragged. I had my hands locked on to the front bumper trying to save myself from coming under the wheel. The driver was a jackass! he did not hit the brake and kept dragging till a point when the road ended and I was being pushed up a slope towards a closed shutter. My right hand slipped and went under the front wheel and all I could think of was my family. As It was a slope( I guess the driver had left the accelerator) as I reached the shutter the car started jerking and stopped. The car backed off my hand and I blacked out. When I came to my senses I was surrounded by few locals along with the driver. I could feel a sharp pain in left leg and couldn’t move it. A local held my leg and asked me if it hurt and then jolted it in a way that bone set back in its place. I just lay there when few locals picked me up and made me stand on my feet. A participant in a gypsy behind me asked me if I was fine. I asked him to inform the marshal about the accident. The driver kept gathering the locals while checked my bike. The bike was thrashed badly. The side panels were broken the tank had huge dent and the complete front end as Damaged. The front shocks ,Rim, T Handle bar, Lever all were bent. The race had ended for me for no fault of mine.
SP, vishark and Bhanu just reached the spot we tried to align the wheel and straighten the handle bar when the driver started demanding for money. I said lets settle it in the police station when a local goon came with few guys and pushed Bhanu to which he reacted by pushing him back now the scene had completely changed. I asked them to leave and get a marshal. The locals said they would give a statement stating it was my fault unless I pay them and they wanted Bhanu to come back and apologise to everyone. I called up my backup vehicle who reached but the locals were not ready to let go of the vehicle. I wasted good 1hour over there before the marshal arrived. It was Mr. Vijay parmar himself, he paid them cash and asked me to return it to him at the end of stage. The backup fixed my bike so it cud start. The pain killer I took had kicked in and I was able to stand, I decided to ride. I had wasted 1 and half hour there and the worst part is I had no idea how far I was from the end of transport stage, to add to it I was riding with a bent front end and a smashed bike. My suspensions were bent and had stopped working. I somehow continued to climb towards khajjiar and the carb slide got stuck. I tried to ride it as it is but the bike was not ready to climb at all. I opened up the panel and tied it to the bike so could save time to fix but this kept repeating after every km. Now I had lost it, I had no clue where or how far was I, my leg and hand were hurting and i just had 30mins left to reach the finish. I detached the carb from the filter and kept riding. Every time the carb got stuck I put my finger and pushed the slide. I knew this cud screw my engine there was too much dust flying around but I had made my choice. I rode and reached stage end met the marshal and told him about the accident and the time I had lost but was given a 16mins penalty. I was too tired to argue with them and just wanted to get to the hotel and check my wound. Ashish and me left for the hotel checked into the room.My jacket and riding pants were torn, the armour had done a good job and saved my upper body from any harm. My left leg was completely swollen, water had collected in my knee and ankle region. Ashish’s emergency and first aid course helped a lot. He tied a bandage with a support so I keep my leg straight. He confirmed it’s a ligament tear. I was tired as I hadn’t eaten all day apart from a chocolate. Our back up vehicle had arrived but was far from our hotel. So at 9pm we took our bikes to get fixed and my bike needed a lot of work. My front wheel was completely bent so Yogesh helped me borrow a wheel from Manmeet dhanjal. Manmeet said the wheel is slightly bent but was in much better shape than what mine was. So I fit the wheel, cleaned the carb and changed the handle bar. The crew tried and straightened the forks a bit. My headlight was working but it did not focus on the road. With that done we head to a restaurant for dinner , it was 12.30 already. We quickly ate and went back to the hotel. The ice pack and medicines where working.

Day 3 Dahousie- sanghini- chatroo- sinthan- Srinagar= 470km
Next day morning I knew I had a battered bike and I could not put weight on my left leg. My left hand fingers were swollen and turned blue as they had come under the wheel of the car. I couldn’t move my leg much, I knew I can’t do much now but try and complete the race. We had two competition stages and my job was to complete it without getting dnf. I had a bent front rim along with the bent front end, one fall and the race would end for me. I decided to go easy today. 3.30am we reached the helipad at Dalhousie but there was no one there. All the participants went searching in different direction thinking the marshals would be somewhere around. At 3.50am the marshals arrived and took the roll count and the flag offs begin. The penalty had screwed my overall standing, Nosh was ahead of me now. We had two stages today and the one I feared was the Sinthan pass. I was flagged of and after 10kms or so I realised I was on the wrong route. My GPS was goofing again, I stopped by a local to ask if any bikes have gone past. “No”, he replied, so I turned around and decided to go back to the start point and follow one of the vehicles. One scooter was heading my way so I corrected him but it seems he had lost hope and wanted to go back. I told him it is just one day that he needs to bare. We headed to the start point and I filled up fuels on the way. A police man stopped us and said all the bikes took a left from here, we thanked him and left. In these 3 days I had understood if you are on the highway then there is something wrong. The raid will always choose a route which is tricky to test your navigation skills and some transport stages would be tougher than the competition stages. We followed on the tricky winding road till we reached the start of the stage. The first stage had seen a lot of accidents already and our time was delayed by half an hour. Behind me was a gypsy so I had to be careful or would be mowed down at one of the turns, if not fast enough.
Stage 1: sanghini-bhaderwah: 56km: My stage started and it was a mix of smooth, broken tarmac, mucky and rocky roads with streams. The stage started well and I was riding safe today. On the smooth tarmac I was taking a blind turn and saw a volunteer signalling at me to slow down as I completed the turn there was a big boulder in front of me. As I was slow I could easily manoeuvre. The roads was very slipper cause of dew, oil, the parts with shade had black ice with broken or fallen parts from vehicle sand stones. To add to it started drizzling, At one of the turns my bike skid. I kept thinking what might have gone wrong? Then when I tried to stand my shoe kept slipping. The manure and some flowers from the tree had mixed to make it a super slippery surface. I got up somehow, picked the bike and checked for damages and left. Now I was riding with caution. My hand guards where just hanging by a bolt I saw a lot similar stretches ahead, Saw a polaris which had turned upside down. The driver and navigator were sitting by its side. I asked them if they are fine and told them will inform the marshal about the accident. Few kms ahead saw gypsy stuck in the bushes with no signs of the driver or. Thought they would have been rescued so I left and completed the stage. Informed the marshals about the accidents and saw Asif standing with his bike. His Scooter had some issue and was not ready to start. He was doing really well and was running first in the scooter class. I went ahead and saw saby (one of my friends) standing with shamim, I informed them that Asif’s bike is broken and needs help. Saby saw my bike and I told him about the accident I had yesterday. He and Shamim saw the hand guard and fixed it for me. Shamims bike gave up the first day or else he was tough competition for Asif. Hiten, kunal and others ran out of fuel and their back up was waiting for them after the wrong stage. I thanked Shamim and Saby and left. The transport stage was tougher than the competition stage the road was under construction. We wasted a lot of time as we had to stop at many places as only one lane was being allowed to move at a time. All this had messed up my calculation. I reached kishtwar and stopped at a fuel pump. There was a long waiting and when my turn arrived there was a power failure. The guy tried to fix the generator but all in vain .The villagers said 10kms down the road there was a pump but was off my course. I had already wasted 30mins there so took the 10 km detour filled up fuel and head back on the my way to start of the stage. My calculations had messed up completely and according to me I was running late. I reached the start to the stage and met Ashish. I spoke to him and corrected my time I still had 15mins left. We came to know that the previous stage was cut in half as there were too many accidents and they were running short of time. One of the marshals informed us that participants will have to take an early start as it would have been dark by the time we finished the stage. We were informed no penalties would be imposed for the early start.

Stage 2: chatroo- sinthan: 50km: All of us agreed and we got in a line. Behind me was a gypsy followed by SP. The stage was a complete off road with a uphill climb. I was flagged off and soon the road narrowed. It was a downhill with road only wide enough for a gypsy to pass. I could hear the gypsy grunting somewhere back in the hills. I knew it would be difficult to control the jeep in this stretch filled with blind turns. One mistake and either I would be run down or the gypsy would go flying down the valley.
I could hear the jeep gaining on me but road was as narrow as before.I continued and found a stretch where there was a small ditch on the hill side. I put my bike in the ditch, leaned myself and the bike to the rock and waited. Few minutes later the gypsy came rushing. He saw me and slowed down to pass without putting himself or my life in danger. The driver waved at me and the navigator smiled, I waved back and waited for the dust to settle. I continued from there, my leg was hurting but when kept in a particular angle I would not feel the pain. I knew I had lost time and setting my leg in one such odd angle tried opening the throttle. My bike had started losing power as I climbed altitude. At one straight stretch I had the full throttle open but the bike would not go above 70 because of smaller main jet. I saw SP catching up on me on his bike. It was a long stretch and he over took me. Everything was as if in slow motion I turned to him with my throttle locked and smiled at him he looked back smiling back at me as he over took me. I was behind him as we approached a turn where I thought I could overtake him but there was a twist. There it was up fiercest enemy, the uphill climb. The bike had to be shifted to the first gear as it was not climbing on any other gears. Sp had disappeared before I could finish climbing the second turn. So now I knew 1st gear and speed of 20 to 25km with throttle fully open would be the speed till uphill lasts. To add to my dilemma Sinthan pass was an uphill climb and the time trials guys were put on the same route. So there was a cloud of dust behind every jeep. Some of them where kind enough to allow u to overtake others would want you to follow them not understanding that it’s a completion stage for us. Where ever I got a downhill slope I used to speed up and try to use the momentum for the climb. I over took a few jeeps in the downhill and many times got over took by the same jeeps during uphill. Finally I cud see some people standing and cheering on the top . I knew the stage finish was near and just then my carb slide got stuck. I just pulled it on the first gear as much I could and crossed the finish line at real slow speed. Few mtrs ahead my back up crew was waiting I went and stopped there. Yogesh gave me a hug and helped me off the bike. Ashish, Vishak, Sp, anoop, bhanu were all there. We took few group snaps and congratulated each other for completing the final stage of Alpine. Yogesh fixed my carb and all of us rode down together to a nearby tea stall where we met few friendly locals. We chatted and had tea along with them. I told the guys that my headlight has gone kaput so would need to ride with hems and I won’t be able to ride fast either. We all agreed and where sharing our experience when a marshal’s vehicle stopped and asked us to leave. It was getting dark and we still had to finish the transport stage. Next minute everyone was on their bikes and people disappeared. I tried catching up but my bike won’t go above 70 and the front end was bobbing beyond control. This was a 130km transport stage. In next few minutes it turned dark and I was in some village road with no lights and my headlight was not throwing any light on the road. I tried fixing it and switched on the indicator and kept riding at slow speed. After a while my GPS battery drained I just decided to continue till I approached a turn and then switch on the GPS. Did this a till I drained the batteries. My last fall tore my bag and the extra set of batteries had slipped out from the hole. Lucky for me I saw a time trial car which was headed my way. I went to the driver side window and confirmed their destination and followed them. We rode together till we reached a place where the whole road was jammed. it was 8.30the traffic started to clear a bit when a local came and stood behind the car and kicked it hard . The driver at once sped past from there followed by me. The whole road was jammed and the car could not move. So I thanked the driver and his navigator for their help and continued to ride as if in Mumbai traffic. It was 9.30, I had reached a cross road and had no idea which way I shold head. I kept asking for the hotel Centaur and people could not relate to it. Suddenly a local said “Hotel santoor toh nahi?” I said it’s a big hotel and they said santoor is a big hotel there and guided me. On the way I found one more participant with a GPS failure so we both asked for direction and rode together. Finally at 10.15 we reached the stage finish. I knew I was late and would end up with a 30mins penalty which could even lead to DNF. Then a marshal confirmed they had given everyone a free run as the roads were blocked and many participants along with marshals have not reached. I was happy about this so we all sat and waited for our timing sheet. Few minutes later we got our timing sheets and we had completed Raid successfully. The feeling was beyond words. I met Ashish, even he got left behind and while speeding he flew on a bump and had a fall smashing his headlight. He rode with the available light and then followed a car. There was one more participant who fell from the scooter in the transport stage and rode with a bent T frame. We got our rooms and all had a lavish dinner that night. The results were announced Ashish was over all 4th and 1st in group c Alpine. Vishak was over all 5th and 2nd in his class group C. I was Over all 8th in alpine first in my class group D Alpine and Anoop was 2nd in class group d. We all were happy with the results even though in Alpine they don’t give prizes in class category. This was my story of the 17th Raid the Himalayas.Click image for larger version

Regarding the tyre: The recently launched RE Himalayan tyre is 120/90 17" and the same make as that of the Impulse. I too am looking to change me tyres, it is an up size but I'm currently waiting for the Himalayan's tyre to hit the markets.
BTW here in Mumbai, the original sized tyres are available.

Mileage, is more less around the 35-40 kmpl mark in heavy city riding. Top speed: I have managed to hit 107 kph on the Western Express Highway, haven't had the chance to push it further.

Regarding the spares, it is an issue even in Mumbai, but after ordering at authorised Hero ASC (and waiting patiently) I have got most spares, also there are plenty of other stores that stock Impulse spares. I suggest you ask an Impulse owner in Bangalore to find out how they procure spares.

                      Hi...
I am from Mumbai and I own impulse. I am also looking for stock tyres. You said original sized are available in Mumbai. Kindly share the store name and location where I can get stock size. And regarding spares I think now spares are easily available in service centers. Running parts are available in local stores also.... Though body parts are still difficult to source.

120/90 should fit, though its an up size.
Coming to tyre shops, the Grant Road area in Mumbai is where you should head, quite a few stores are storing the tyres, but be sure to bargain as they quote high prices for old/discontinued tyres.

Try these, all on the same street:
                        Auto service
                        Super Tyre
                        Vishal Tyre.

Most spares apart from the ASC are available at Rajkamal Auto, Santacruz West.

Yes most spares are available at lucky scooters, sion also. I have seen personally 100/90/17 ralco tyre on impulse. Looks good though not sure about the performance of the tyre. It's proper off-road tyre.

Should I go for a 2nd hand impulse? Or buy a fresh out of showroom (if that's possible)

If you can get a new one, then go for it. But as far as I know they are not so easy available anymore as the company stopped production years ago.

Okay. There are few 2012 models on olx and quikr. I'm currently using gixxer. The riding position doesn't feel good. So I thought of Himalayan. But I don't have that money. Hence the impulse
