• Re: Servicing carburetor Honda dream neo

what can I say? Im not that much dissatisfied with Honda dream. Because I learned with this bike to ride , service and it was simple to maintain. Acceleration also better than splendor - I also rough used the neo many times and engine wise it never get tired. Let's see in another 10k kms

The oil strainer should be cleaned at 12000 kms. This will ensure oil flows freely inside engine.
Do this when you are about to change your engine oil.

Tools required:
8mm T-spanner, 12 and 14 mm edge spanner, 12 mm ring spanner, Anabond gasket paste, petrol or kerosene.

Steps:

1. Apply some oil over the bolts on the clutch case side. And wait for 30 mins to loosen up the tightness.

2. Remove the clutch cable by loosening the two nuts using 12 and 14mm spanner. The cable will come out freely from the lever arm.

3. Remove the kickstarter with 12 mm ring spanner. It is just similar to gear lever.

4. Make sure you have already drained the engine oil.
Now the clutch cover will be free from other parts of bike. Unscrew the bolts with 8mm T spanner like below. Remove the dipstick. All bolts are same size, but place them in order for perfection while refitting.

7. Mine was 80% clogged and I could not believe as I am only changing the oil in dust free environment. Probably they are accumulated from somewhere else and small metal particles. Please do this by 10k kms.

9. Please put back into the same place - tapering (thinner) edge should be inside and broader edge should be outside.
I tried to open the centrifugal filter, but it was rotating no matter what gear it is in. It may require special tools. So I skipped it for now.

10. Apply anabond (very thin layer) over the edge of the gasket. Though my gasket is still new I wanted to make sure no oil leaks out.

11. Reassemble in the reverse order.

Enjoy the DIY... If anyone knows the centrifugal removal please respond

Edit:
Managed to remove the centrifugal filter using coin trick,(thanks Pinaki) and cleaned that also.. with little petrol.

Good job !
You have to undo those 3 nuts on the centrifugal-filter's cover and clean inside with a spray of petrol ( or you may undo the center nut inside it with a special tool and take it out to clean and ensure oil passthru is clear too ) . Somehow find a way to stop the rotor from turning , am not sure of the mechanism though . Is the wheel turning too when it is rotating in gear ? Then you may try strapping the brakes . Or you may wedge an old aluminium coin in the gear teeth between the clutch-assembly and the rotor-filter - that should jam it and stop it .
On the Splendor they used 4 Phillips head screws instead , which are even more trouble ( stripped heads ) - so honda has changed this now . Also a great thing that the cover bolts are all the same now .

No need to use sealant , if gasket is new it shall seal perfect . Tighten crisscross , use less torque . If it is paper gasket - use once only . Older asbestos gasket if intact ( no tear ) may be reused . While removing gasket be careful not to use a sharp or hard tool - scratch on mating surfaces shall leak .

Please refer to this great post by shoeb2015 for reference , you may pm him for assistance anytime too . http://www.xbhp.com/talkies/motorcyc...tml#post895627

Yes, due to something wheel also didnt rotate in any gear but clutch rotated when using spanner to open centrifugal. Great idea of using coin wrapped in cloth in between!!. Thanks dude.. will do in the next oil change.

Good post dude creative , Is it possible to do this job without opening the clutch cable and starter ? I dont think so looking at how the clutch cover is connected
Surprised to see so much of dirt on oil strainer at just 10K+ running, I dont think mine was ever cleaned in ASC despite it being mentioned in service list so may be somthing for me to look into

The cover wouldn't come out without removing kickstart and disconnecting cable. But that is easy - just 2 spanners needed 14,12 mm edge spanners and 1 12 mm ring spanner for kickstart. At high rpm the engine will struggle to get oil and make noise if the filter is blocked, now it is more silent. I saw some black metal particles there - it is worth cleaning.

Guys, just want to know if this news regarding cylinder head gasket leakage issue that has been noticed on Honda dream series bikes. I have seen this problem on few Twisters as well. One Twister users too had reported this issue long back on Twister forum before dream series bikes were launched by Honda.check Link below.

OMG look at that, May i know your oil drain interval, and how much do you run on average and your driving style.. Cause I still did not cleaned the strainer and Odo on 23000. I went for oil change at each 2K for 8000 than at every 6000

Update

Went for cleaning the strainer here the state before

What are the symptoms of this issue ? If this is related to black deposit on the silencer then I can say for sure that my bike has this problem. I do agree with the general opinion on bad Honda quality. My bike fule pipe had cracks after 2 years of use and was leaking fuel and I had to get it replaced. One of my close relatives new Honda Activa also had fuel leakage problem and had to get the Fuel pipe replaced at own cost

This is a example of head gasket leakage, btw this image from extreme/hunk, just for illustration.

Nice DIY.

But i would like to add that do not use anabond on clutch cover gasket as next time it will be bothersome to remove.

Use a little white grease on the gasket to hold it in place. Once its tightened the grease and paper will set.

And for holding the rotor and clutch from turning, ask in any garage for old Hero splendor GPT pinion. You can use it to fix in between teeth of GPT and clutch housing.

I did find some oil leakage initially and this was reduced a bit once the gasket was replaced when service center had opened head to look at when i complained of mileage problem. I did pay for the parts though ( some 100 rs i think) but the leakage was not fixed completely. Recently when i had opened the head and did valve clearance adjustment I used a new gasked and applied some anabond and I dont see any leakage here but I still have problem with black deposit on silencer which may or may not indicate some oil getting into engine and burning off. I think some experts like sibun or Pinaki might be able to comment on this better

The problem is with the gasket between the head and the block. Change the gasket and seal it with Anabond.By the way, the oil shud not come out thru this gasket. At least not in theory. Check if u have white/blue smoke coming from the exhaust. I think the piston rings might be worn too.

Had u opened the engine head before this?

From the photo, it seems that the extent of oil leakage is serious, Why not approach the Service center and get it done within warranty.

ya...so it seems original gasket was indeed faulty and leakage got fixed after installing new gasket....this confirms the report published on motorbeam.com. Regarding the deposits, normally black deposits indicate bad combustion, i,e more fuel and less air caused by incorrect AFR or dripping fuel nozzle. you can clean the deposits for now and if it happens again then get the carburetor cleaned and check air fuel setting.
other reasons for black deposits include leaking piston rings.....this is very bad and should not happen to relatively new engine. rings will leak if they are worn out due to low engine oil level....which in your case is possibe due to oil leakage through gasket. were you checking engine oil levels regularly during leakage period?

That photo was from a different ownership forum, just for sake of illustrating head gasket leakage.
