Once upon a time, a guy asked a girl 'Will you marry me?'
    The girl said, 'NO!'

And the guy lived happily ever after and rode motorcycles and watched sport on a big screen TV, went fishing and surfing, and played golf a lot, and drank beer and scotch and had tons of money in the bank and left the toilet seat up and farted whenever he wanted.

            My first 220.
I sold it after the big accident.

Done 31k kilometer in 11 months.
And in the end of 11th month. The sad accident that gave me 22 stitches and a year of bed and lifetime permanent Scary Tattoo.

I was seriously so sure about to sell my this 220 also near 30-35k km.

Because I thought keeping 220 after that is useless. As I had no long relation with 220.

But only krish2778, @B7ACKTHORN, and 2-3 old members that replied during my tyre change confusion (sorry I forgt there Id's)

These people are the reason that I'm not thinking of selling the bike now.
And still getting the parts replaced when needed.

Earlier I was thinking of getting CBR now and later for some big like NinJa (maybe my dreams :P )

But now I guess I can use Bike till I have to (60k assurance is already done by krish)
And then some new Machine !!

Thanks a lot guys for that.

                Hi Krish2778 -

Bro I am not an expert, But I wanted to know can we use Shell Advance AX7 or Shell Advance Ultra Engine oil for Pulsar 220F,

I own a 220F and want a good engine life for my bike. I heard Shell provide's Quality Engine oil do let me know.

Also My bike's "Pick up" has drastically come down do I need to get the engine checked ? (as per documentation bike should reach 0-60kmph in just 4-5 sec but mine takes some were like 7 to 8 Sec's to reach 60 kmph is this a problem ?) do let me know my Bike is brand new just completed 5000 Kms

PS: not an expert just a beginner to biking stuff (long way to go for me)

                Regards,
                Amey

                  Hai,

Please go ahead with shell oil, it's really a great oil, on par with motul.

About the pick up, i guess its service time for you, since the bike is getting to 5k kms, a good service, new oil and a carb retune(tune to a slightly richer mixture) and your bike should be just like new.

                  Cheers

@krish2778 sorry for occupying your thread mate

NOW ADDING SOME MORE INFORMATION ABOUT THE RIDING EXPERIENCES

                      INTRO:
hello guys..let me introduce myself again .. I am anurag from hyderabad and a proud Pulsar 220 (my best buddy) for 9months now! so its time for me to keep up with my ownership experience that i experienced in these 13.5kms of bon voyage

                      (p.s. excuse my grammar
, my language as well as the content because i'm not a regular writer )
                      OWNERSHIP EXPERIENCE:
To start with my experiences, i remember that day when i first started the vehicle took a test ride and that test ride made the foundation of these many miles (kilometers in indian standard )... on the day i first rode my vehicle,i felt very emotionally attached towards the bike and it feels like 1 soul in 2 !

Coming to the ownership experiences, you all know the power it has and well to me actually it has got drag, track, street fighting ,off-roading ..every kind of aspect in it (p.s. depends on the rider's ability to perform these kind of ridings ). The engine has got lots of raw nature combined with some smoothness, that it always wants you to rev the throttle. My friends who owns other brands always why i choose Pulsar rather than other makes and points out that it has gots lots of quality issues . I'd like to say that the first generation of pulsars had quality issues but wanna clarify that it was a foundation for bajaj's new life and the quality of the bikes has been improving significantly generation after generation! So while coming to the quality of present Gen pulsars..the quality is good but it needs to improve a bit.

                      Some Minor Problems everyone faces:

The main problem with the bike is the vibrations of fairing and mirrors! The reason for this is because of light weight fibre panels of the fairing on which heavy weight(compared to fibre's weight) rvms are mounted. This is the main reason for the vibrations on fairing as well as the RVMs!and there are also vibrations that makes you go into vibration mode after 6-7k rpm! other than these nothing looks like a problem to me!

Engine and its Power and Transmisson:

Characterized by a 220cc mill, 5-speed gear box producing 21 horses of power, this bike has got ample amount of torque to get you on roll with less amount of throttle revving. The highest speed i achieved on this bike is 132kmph(speedo indication) from 0kmph in 1.2km track!(however time is not calculated ..roughly estimated to 20-25 seconds)! This bike has got lots of power under its chasis and you never feel let down.though there needs some improvement in transmisson,i'd rate the trasmission 3/5(because of false neutrals and difficulty in bringing the bike to neutral from first gear when the ignition is turned on)

                      OILS I USED till now:

for the first three free servicings i used the bajaj-hp oils.after that i used shell AX3 20w40 grade after that i switched to AX7 10W40 grade! the difference i noticed is being a mineral based oil AX3 helped in running the engine freely and never faced any problem with AX3 even though it is recommended for low cc engines. While AX7 specially designed for higher mill engines helped the engine in staying cool and rev more freely and helped in protection over sludge formation and even the transmission felt smooth

                      BRAKING :
The braking is the area which needs to improve a lot.Though the braking on 220 is better than that of 180,i somehow feel the lack of confidence in doing high speeds because it wont stop immediately. you have to get used to the brakes.A slight touch of rear brake lever wont stop the machine.heavy pressing results in fish tailing. only few mm of pressing is to be done to stop the bike gently. The front brake is good but heavy hitting of front brake results in breaking of cone set( i already changed my cone set once..front brake and stoppie zindabad )

                      STABILITY:

One of the prime factors to be considered in high power bikes is the stability at high speeds.Well you will surely like the stability of the bike in high speeds. The bike feels planted on the road even doing speeds above 110 kmph.It feels like the bike is fixed onto the ground using fevicol .However the bike is little vulnerable to crosswinds on highways(may be because of my helmet) .you will definitely love the stability of the bike.

                      FE:

THE average fe i am getting is 40-45 kmpl(city 38-40 and highways 43-45) and highest fe i got after i tuned the carb is 50kmpl(not at all recommended ..the mixture is very much leaner ..the reason for doing that is my hands were itching at that time to do some thomas edison like experiments ) and the least i got is 25kmpl .

i'd say P220 is the perfect VFM in its segment. and i'd rate P220 5/5 for its features and 8.5/10 overall

thank you .. please forgive me if i'm against anyone's opinion

the above stated are true to my belief and doesnt hold to anyones comments.THIS has nothing to do with anyone (on a pun note )

Cmon mate, what kind of problem would i have, this makes me even more happier, if more and more 220 owners give their reviews here, it could help a lot in accumilating the ownership reviews of many people and making this thread a complete review book for the bike.

So , I would say to others, to please contribute to this thread, whenever you feel like it.

Re: Pulsar 220F , 3 years/60,000kms long term Ownership Experience

A simple and short Ownership Experience from my end -

Preface - Pulsar 220 DTSI - First bike in India Manufactured by a Indian Motorcylce Company - Bajaj to debut as a performance bike in India

I own a Pulsar 220 DTS Fi (Blue and Black Combo) 2011 Model
I have clocked very less in 2 Years span only made 7000KMs so the bike feels still new and not used it hard enough

Let me start review categorizing as PROS and CONS till date

                          First the CONS -
                          --------------------

                          1. Getting the servicing in any Authorized Bajaj showroom is a nightmare to your pockets
Costs are too high and getting a part replaced and you end up getting a bill of 3500 Rupees

                          2. Vibraions at mid range, Touch 6K RPM mark and you will feel as if you are getting a body massage

                          3. Braking on Wet road during rain is quite scary you don't get that enough confidence should you need to call it

                          4. Digital Instrument Cluster (D.I.C) is not as good as it should have been and the sensors and readings on it are not always accurate (unlike Pulsar 200NS which is superb)

                          Now the PROS -
                          --------------------

                          0. Go any where from Kanyakumari to Leh you will always find a Bajaj Service center easily

                          1. Looks of the bike - Looks like a RAW Indian bull ready to charge

                          2. Seating position is good for both rider and pillion so back aches don't become a hideous affair

                          3. Projector Light best in Class and you can never find its match in any Indian bikes available right till date

                          4. Handling I will give it a 70 - 30 so It's good to ride on daily bases as this is not a track machine

                          5. Brakes are quite good on rough and dry roads, at least I can say just as good than its predecessors

                          6. The bike has excellent straight line stability even at speeds of 120 KMPH +

                          7. Cornering is decent enough can be done easily by a expert, but for a begineer usually you don't get to lock your knees on tank while doing it so you don't feel confident enough I tried it once and it worked out well the second time I tried felt like I would just fall off - Just my experience

                          8. The bike is 100% reliable If used properly without abusing it too badly on pot hole filled Indian roads

                          Verdict -
                          ----------
Over all CONS on this Bike are pretty less

Bajaj over all has done a good job, After all it is the first Indian manufacturer to provide Indians with first performance bike and also the first Indian manufacturer having their bike sold out in South and Central America

The above review\experience given is true to best of my knowledge and no offense to any one on this LOLZ
                          Kind Regard's

Awesome write up, enjoyable read My babe is approaching 3 yrs old now, not a single problem with it, even the front fairing doesnt vibrate at high speeds, the RVM's are totally useless though a solution by my mechanic was fixing a rod between the two below the clear window of the fairing. Have not fixed this yet...
Will write up my long term experiences too, and how the bike holds up on long rides, driven her to Lavassa, Dapoli (the Ratnagiri coast), Mahableshwar via the very scenic verandha central ghats, Mumbai(many times). The Dapoli was via mumbai, though there is a direct road from Pune, that was a long drive of 480 kms with two hours visit to my sisters house in Mumbai, the way this awesome bike handled was beyond my expectations, smooth, delivery of power when I want, a long straight stretch of 48 kms, it was a dreams the way she was soaring, kept a constant speed of 122 - 125 kmph. I use Motul FS 300v, the main reason why the engine is what it is even now...
