You can also 20w40 mineral oils by Motul, Gulf and Elf with good results as most members here have used in the past (I did).
Semi-synth seems to seep out of the crankcase a bit and full synth becomes like water and disappears Doesn't make sense to use them for financial and mechanical reasons...
thanks for your nice clarification sir... i'll be putting either the Shell Advance AX5 20W40 or 20W50 in to the fiero....

@ Peter - I think you will be forced to change the crankcase (with registered engine no) to accommodate the 5 speed gearbox; thus, voiding your road legal status.
If you're using your modded fiero off road, then you won't have to dodge the cops On road and insurance will prove to be a problem.
Why don't you retain fiero's 4 speed lower half and try sprocketing mods to achieve best of both worlds?

20w40 mineral is recommended. I have experimented with fully synthetic and got a blown oil seal. The 10w40 semi synthetic of Apache reduced engine life. 20w50 mineral should be good too. Others are using it.

I want to change the engine oil for my father's 2000 Suzuki Fiero...it has done more than 35000KMS...can't tell exactly as I'm in a different city right now....I also don't know what engine oil is currently in it. I do have the owner's manual but forgot the recommended engine oil grade.....

    1. which oil should I use...Semi ( OR ) Fully Synthetic ? .

    2. what is the engine oil drain interval for the fiero.

My List of Fully-Synthetic Oils :-

    1. Shell Advance Ultra - 10W40
    2. Motul 300V Factory Line - 15W50
    3. Motul 7100 4T - 20W50

My List of Semi-Synthetic Oils :-

    1. Shell Advance AX7 - 10W40
    2. Motul 5100 4T - 15W50

I am here. Somehow trying to convince my folks that it makes sense to spend on restoration rather than replacing!

Knock Knock. Where is everyone? Have you all abandoned your Fieros for newer bikes? This was a really active thread sometime back when I didn't have a Fiero. Now that I have one, the thread is gone dead.

This reminds me of the IT department of most companies. If you report 5 problems with your computers, they will fix only 3, leave the other 2 as they are and introduce 4 new problems into the system.

Just for curiosity sake, how much was the asking price for the RTR engine.

BTW I just ordered a Quick Action Throttle for my Duke 390. I was wondering if the same mod can be done on a Fiero.

I'm now reading this entire thread for the 2nd time trying to gather enough information. Trying to compile the following information so I can go armed with it to the mechanic.

    1. Disk Brake: For now decided on a Pulsar unit. I gather from the thread that I need the following:
    - Pulsar Classic Right Lower Fork tube
    - Disk
    - Calliper
    - Hydraulic pipe
    - Brake lever
    - Hydraulic resevoir
    - Fiero F2 Hub (Can I use a Pulsar Classic Hub?)
    - CBZ Classic or Yamaha worm
    - Anything else?

    2. Big Bore: Tentatively decided on the RTR 180
    - Bore kit (Bore, piston, rings and gaskets)
    - Cam Chain tensioner
    - Stock head to be matched on the lathe (can someone post a pick of a stock head and one matched to the 180 Bore)
    - RTR head is another option (photo please so I can see the difference)

    62mm bore= 175cc.(RTR160 bore kit)
    62.5mm bore =177cc (RTR180 bore kit)
    63.5mm bore = 183cc (CBZ classic piston)
    65.5mm bore = 195cc (ZMA piston)
    67mm bore = 204cc (P220 piston)

    3. BS29 Carb: Already know that I have to buy it from Bajaj or the UCAL distributor
    - Do I need to change the jets?
    - Intake manifold of the RTR 180

    4. Swing Arm:
    - Victor GX (1240mm)
    - Victor GLX (1260mm)
    - Fiero F2/FX(1270mm)
    - Apache 150(1260mm)
    - Apache RTR 160/FI(1300mm)
    - Flame (1320mm)
    - Apache RTR 180(1326mm)
I think the Victor GLX one fits without any mods right.

    5. Oil Cooler:
    - As per the Apche thread
    - Edit: Just read that Gixxer has done it on his Fiero

    6. TCI Conversion:
    - TCI unit= 650 Rs .
    - Ignition coil = 450 Rs.

    7. Exhaust mods

    8. Cosmetic mods

    9. Other minor mods like FZ handle, rearsets (what exactly are those),

    10. Equivalent parts for the Fiero from other TVS or non TVS bikes to replace hard to fin Fiero parts or to improve the bike.

I would appreciate if everyone could contribute info and one person compile it all into a sort of a guide listing each and ever mod that can be done to the Fiero in the following format:
    - Name of the mod
    - Brief description
    - List of parts with approx prices
    - Procedure and labour costs

This can be a pinned post at the begining of the thread which can be a quick reference guide to anyone wanting to do it.

And once more can someone Please Please Please share a PDF/Scanned copy of the owners manual and service/workshop manual.
    1. Disc brake:

If you choose pulsar disc, then you'd have to get pulsar classic's hub.Your other options are classic unicorn, the spoke one.The speedo worm will differ with each option you go for.Classic pulsar set-up will need any of these cbz classic speedo, splendor, cbz extreme,ZMA as well. You have to do some leg-work yourself, classic bullet comes with spokes,so you can find out whether it's hub will fit or not. Then there's the most recent one with spokes, which is hero off-road bike, which is so rare, that at the moment i can't even recall it's name!So you have to do some research and find out as to which is easily available. If you opt for the f2 set-up,then speedo worm will be difficult to find and that means you would have to get suzuki zeus's spares.Even suzuki zeus came with disc brake,so that's also an option.

    2. I have the stock head modified to match the 195cc,so i will post it's pics soon.

    3. Jetting has to be done whenever you make any changes to the engine, without it,there's a serious risk of you experiencing what nonotech did, which is pre-ignition and seizures .Jetting is something which is to be specific to each set-up.So you have to get it done on a trial and error basis. On the other hand,if you decide to keep the stock carb, then you can simply install the rtr 160's 105 main-jet and be done with it.

    4. RTR swing-arm is the one which will give your bike some serious presence. But none of the above will come close to a mono-shox set-up though. If done properly, this will improve handling and dynamics of the bike as well.Glx's swing-arm is the one which will need minimal changes of the lot.
