How's the pulsar sprocket doing? You must have covered substantial kms using it.

Service centers here at pune do not have the ecstar r9000 yet. They put the idemitsu one only and I seriously hate it from the deepest core of my heart. Anyhow, I always get the service done by Authorized centers only but I believe according to you I can do that from local shop too after probably my 9th service right?

No flush required if you're regularly changing oil.
Thanks a lot bro. I will try to get ecstar oil from suzuki on my next service. Otherwise, will use Motul 5100 10w30 as it will be almost post monsoon with temp 20°C -30°C by the time I will be getting my next service.

Thanks a lot for the flush info too.

    I second this.

Any of the mineral/semisynths will be good enough with changes every 2000-2500kms. Hardly any difference using other oils (except 7100) other than the extended drain interval with FS.
I disagree. FS oils give smoother experience.

Currently I am using Shell Helix HX8 5w30@Rs450/litre. The engine feels fantastic, also without noise. Ofcourse I did not do highway runs yet to test it.

Also, do I need to use a flush when changing engine oil from SS to FS or vice versa? I as of now am running with the SS oil by idemitsu. SVC guys filled that up.

    Mobil Delvac 1400 15w40 (2900- ) Covered only 30kms.....can't review this yet.

Your free service period is over but you are still in warranty period and you have to get the next 4 paid services done at an ASC to maintain the validity of the warranty, and for that you have to use the Oil that is recommended by Suzuki. Only 3 oils are recommended by Suzuki for Gixxer and I have already mentioned it in the previous post.

Other than that you can use any motorcycle oil you want as long as its the proper grade. You wont feel any difference. I have already mentioned this in my Ownership review. Visit my channel and watch the 20k kms ownership review, link to the channel is in my signature.

Oops. Mistakenly said that. What i meant was that the Free Service Period has been over now.

R7000 is SS. Not available in India I guess. Is R5000 available? Also what are your views on the oils mentioned by me?

My bike is not in warranty anymore. Its a 2017 SP 16 months old with almost 12k Km done. I want to try SS oils. Have tried the SS crap by idemitsu and Motul 7100. Motul 7100 is overkill but is definitely worth it. I like it very much and have only positive points on it except for the cost. I want to try a cheaper alternative.

    These comes to my mind.
    1. Shell Advance AX7 10W40. - Found mixed reviews here on this thread. Some say its a cheap quality SS oil as compared to Motul 5100. Only reason I am considering it over Motul 5100 is its correct grade.
    2. Motul 5100 10W30 and 15W50 - Have seen good reviews. Inappropriate grade is my concern here. I am living in Pune where min and max temp are in ranges of 10°C to 40°C. I am thinking of experiencing with 10W30. I would be happy if anyone can share his experience on these.
    3. Ecstar r7000 and r9000 - Relatively new. Not much reviews found.

Any help/advice in deciding which one to go for will be very helpful. Thanks

Fortunately never faced such problems. But somehow, I felt the urge of replacing the oil just after 3k Km as it was almost jet black by then.

Even i faced the same head leaks in my 3rd service where i opted for motul 7100 though i ran it for 2k and in my 4th service replaced the engine head washer and gasket cyclinder cover and changed to r9000 and soon after few days there were again signs of leaks in engine head from washer only, so i talked to my preferred local mechanic and told he would do the job. He opened the engine head and cleaned the washer and gasket with petrol without leaving any residue and fixed the gasket and head cover washer with a sealant and till now i have no leaks where im still running with r9000 and covered 2.8k kms.
The job was done in early march.

Hi all, bought Gixxer SP June'17. Last serviced in May. I went home so it has been sitting in parking since then. Went to check out today but it won't start. Battery is all good. Any suggestions on what might cause it.

    1. Don't know much but don't think that there will be a vast difference in resale value between sp and normal 2018 models. May be some other experienced owner give a better overview.

    2. No changes have been made apart from adding ABS. The pillion seat is still as uncomfortable as ever. The gear are as chunky as ever.

    3. Looks decent. I dont like it much. But then again looks are subjective
    Thanks for the response.

I looked at the bikes in person and after much deliberation decided to stick with the Moto GP inspired blue version. The gold in the 2018 sp version is dull orange more than gold. Looks different in person.

Paid the full amount and have submitted my docs for registration. Will be picking up the vehicle on Tuesday or Thursday. Excited! [emoji3]

What do you mean not having a proper recommended FS oil? They are advertising their R9000 has recommended FS Oil for Gixxer and Intruder.

R9000 is made by Idemitsu not Suzuki, if you want to ask about the oil then send a message to [email protected]

Well then, post updated. It's upto the user to decide.

It's the same grade (for the ambient temperatures in my area) and has the same specification as Suzuki's recommendation in the manual.

A lot of companies market Group 3 oils as synthetic, like Castrol, Shell to save costs.

I ran it for 4000kms before changing it. The engine had started to become sluggish and rough.

5100 doesn't come in the required grade.
