If your asking what the big black box under the seat is then the answer is air filter box. If you asking about the black box like wire socket then its a connector for the diagnostic tool. And another small black plastic box is in there with fuses and high and low capacity replacement fuses.

It is only a matter of getting used to it. My first ride on RC390 was 50 km one from showroom to home and I seriously doubted being able to ride this thing. Last week I did 250 km ride and didn't feel a thing!!

No.. Mixed.. some heavy, some light, some empty roads.. some speed breakers, some smooth road, some muddy and watery, some rough.. about 10-15% of everything..

I guess a break every one hour of travel is compulsory..

Sadly, no. Even sad is that I have a sore back with considerable damage done over past one year.

Even I feel hourly break is crucial to stretch a bit as well as replenish the concentration levels.

I rode about 120 kms to a point and then rode back the same route. Total trip time was about 5 hours and console recorded 4 hours of ride time. I took 3 breaks in total of which two were for snacking 10 mins each and one was for clicking a few pics. Nearly 90% of this was well laid out highways and there were potholes, speed bumps when crossing through villages. The longest continuous stretch I did was about 100 kms.

I think riding at around 80 kmph helps is easing the pressure as the wind blast sort of provides some support. But the idea is to never use arms for support. They are only to steer. Back should support its weight. Gripping the tank helps tremendously and so does keeping the back straight.

Oh and did I tell you that at 5' 4", I nearly feel like I am lying flat on the tank!!

These are just some first hand observations from a newbie and others may feel free to add their inputs to make the riding experience pleasant!!

Finally u got the bike.Congratulations.she's a beauty in her own right.
The bull crap of loading the console give By showroom guy is just that- bullcrap. Its actually the sound of fuel pump priming. No need of doing it thrice, once is fine.Put the key, switch on, then ull hear the noise(a slight hum), and then only start the bike.Never start before priming. And then you know the drill of idling/warming up.
                    Congrats once again.

I agree, in fact I have been advised against flipping the engine cut out switch more than once per start. The ktm engineer says it can have adverse effects on the fuel pump and injectors in the long run.

Yeh man, stop doing that starting ritual. All you need to do (as mentioned in the manual) is to flip the key and wait for the console self check to complete.. the fuel pump also completes the priming at this point.
Just for the heck of it, yesterday i tried listening to any differences in the sound on my d200 (it was 5am and pin drop silence).. It was the same every time i flipped the key.
And honestly, only now i realized (i knew it had one but realized it only now after reading balgi's post above) about the engine kill switch !. I just use the key all the time be it any bike, no big deal. Even the manual says that the engine kill switch is for emergency only, but doesn't explain it in detail.

a lot of bs is said by the dealers.. its up to us to filter out certain stuff and if possible do more research on it, and read up credible sources like the owners manual/workshop manual and understand. if you are still doubtful, email ktm and see what they have to say about this.
(just nod your head to what they say.. sometimes even the good mechs at the asc bs to you, because afterall they are employees of the dealer and hence hesitate to give you an honest answer especially when it comes issues such as defective parts or replacements under warranty) ..but the same mech if he has his independent garage will tell you on your face 'saar this thing is gone needs to be replaced'.

btw, i got my d200 registered yesterday and i feel like going around for a long ride this morning. maybe i ll just roam around aimlessly and have some bfast at mcdonalds. the last time i tried having bfast at mcd at 730am they weren't ready to serve me though they mentioned their store opens at 7, ended up complaining and received an apology from their area manager..but no free food lol
