Thanks Ajay, the chain was never touched for adjustment, done 2000+ KMS. I have never taken the bike to SVC except for first service.Originally posted by Ajay Vishwanath View Post
Nothing special, just make sure you don't run into potholes filled with water. Also, make sure to lube your chain in short duration during rainy season. Reduce your lean angles and ride slow.Originally posted by KayKashyap View Post

Dont worry ...Originally posted by joe_marvy View PostThanks Doga for pitching in, I'm glad you make a comment for my concern. Your comment is a shocker on my b'day, I'll take that as a wish. But to be honest I didn't expect the same, I came from RX. Each word of yours is related to RX. It has the same fun and reliability factor.
KTM was something new and I know it's not reliable as Jap's but hoped I would have trouble free ownership, I think I need to keep my expectations low. But plz be noted that I not looking only for problems cropping up. I lived this enough before.

Atleast spares are priced reasonably
And always think of your bike as better half .. Take care of her and she'll take care of you
I was in same dilemma 2 yrs ago as you are in when i bought ns !
I made it go through worst cases and conditions .. Still it survived and i guess would go on for another 3-4 years if timely care is taken !
That being said i find ktm to be better in terms of build quality over ns and rs...
Even though they almost share similar components mechanically ..

The gradual deterioration of ride quality, could this be due to fuel quality being generally bad and air pollution which takes a toll on these high spec bikes?Originally posted by Doga View PostThe dukes have this characteristic 'coughing' while decelerating or right after downshifting. I have them too. Had asked the KTM engineer many times and never got a very satisfactory response. Everything was explained as part of the aging process of the bike. The loss in pickup, the ride becoming harsher, the gradual onset of vibs, the harsher shifting. everything. Eventually you end up learning one thing. Stop bothering and just riding. I understand that you being a new owner would fret about every little thing, I did too, but trust me after 1.5-2 years or so, you'd not bat a eyelid(yes, even if your fork is leaking oil) over these 'niggles' and would thank your God if the bike doesn't require svc visit in a month.
The KTMs are great bikes. Too much fun. but reliable/predictable , they are not.

What high spec motorcycles are you talking about? A KTM 200!Originally posted by sparky View PostThe gradual deterioration of ride quality, could this be due to fuel quality being generally bad and air pollution which takes a toll on these high spec bikes?
All motorcycles sold in India (domestic/international) are subjected to similar fuel and atmospheric conditions; but say, for example, a Ninja 300 (a higher spec bike) doesn't suffer from any such deterioration owing to bad fuel or air pollution. The simple thing is, KTM's aren't as well built (or built to last comparatively). Thanks to Bajaj manufacturing capabilities.
PS: Bad fuel is a different thing, it would affect all motorcycles irrespective of their engine size... probably the small capacity Indian bikes are exception to this rule..Last edited by Satellite.kid; 04-16-2015, 10:38 AM.The Chronicles of Motorcycling - The Man, The Machine and The Road

Does the KTM get too many complaints regarding RC or Do they care very much about their customers??
Since i purchased my bike last month i have got 2-3 calls from KTM showroom asking me how is the bike, any issues, etc.
but whatever it is,that's nice of them.

There will be a time when they won't even bother to look at your problems !

Even my trusty splendour would start giving problem if i use bad fuel !
It boils down on how much adulterated it is !
And KTMs have higher compression ratio than normal !
So yes higher compression engine needs good octane fuel !
Similar fuel ? No brother the quality of fuel here and outside india has vast difference conditions maybe same but not fuel !
Well it's Universal truth that Germans and Japanese are hands the best in build quality of they're vehicles ..

Clearly you didn't understand my post. Your first three sentences more or less mean the same thing that I have said.. in a different way.
Secondly, read my sentence about "similar fuel"... I didn't compare fuel quality of our country with another country. I said that all motorcycles sold here, domestic and international, are subjected to similar fuel and atmospheric conditions. And that is why I eventually gave the example of a Ninja 300.The Chronicles of Motorcycling - The Man, The Machine and The Road

Yes, 99% of my riding is alone. KTM bikes are not meant for doubles at least RC. Rain + Pillion combo is a big NO for me.
Today took my bike to the SVC for the sound from chain. To my bad the sound didn't come :banghead: But the mech himself explained the sound and said it's common because of O-ring chain. I didn't buy his answer and left

Sparky, bad fuel won't explain the premature death of the chain sprocket, the gradual fading of the front break bite, the loss of bass in the exhaust note, the increase in vibs. Or the fact that some bolts give way and edges shear off when you try to unscrew. These all point to quality which is not stellar. It may be acceptable at best. Look I am not saying the dukes are of pathetic quality. But when the initial ownership euphoria, thanks to the charming character of the bike, subsides ,the feeling of frustration starts to creep in and then , later, you learn to make peace and accept that it for what it is. A crazy fun bike with a bit of temperamental issues. In a way everyone should buy a KTM and keep for at least 3 years. It prepares you for the rigors of married lifeOriginally posted by sparky View PostThe gradual deterioration of ride quality, could this be due to fuel quality being generally bad and air pollution which takes a toll on these high spec bikes?
