re: KTM RC 200 Owners Experience Thread

Okay, here's a video showing the three different sounds at the start of the day and it stays the third way all day from then on..

In the first try, I muffled the mic by mistake.. But I didn't the second and third tries.. Hope this helps in understanding what my bike is telling me..

I'm guessing it's something with the RC.. the Dukes might be different.. Heard that they remapped the ECU for the RCs a little different from the Dukes..

      They sound completely different...

I may be foolish but for example when I turn on my car for the first time it takes a little time for the Engine check, next time it does it immediately and fastest the third time. May be because the memory is not cleared and it does those things quickly but again not sure just a thought

I see RC no different than a car.. so you are not alone..

Little more time, I agree.. No problem.. but different sounds?? Dayum.. The very thought of her having something faulty.. it scares the hell outta me now..

          Tapped from my HTC.

How different is the sound the first time? The sound is a little different the first time since the pump pulls more fuel in order to prime the engine. But too much noticeable difference is not right.

Ah I just heard the audio you posted and its normal. There is no problem until the sound gets more intense than what it is now. There is absolutely no difference in priming of engine and functioning of fuel pump between the dukes and Rc's.

So the sound being extremely intense the first time.. little less the second and then normal from third.. it's normal..? Even the dukes got it..?

Its normal as long as the sound doesn't become more intense and generally different from motor functioning sound.
Look bro, just forget about this stuff. Unless the bike starts lagging or fails to start, you don't have a problem. Just enjoy the ride and don't overthink things coz that's how you end up jinxing your new ride yourself.

The 3 times starting situal sounds like KTM mechanic might have had obsessive compulsive disorder. Check the gas stove knob three times, bolt the door 3 times, wash hands 3 times and turn on the ignition 3 times.

We need more pics of the bike. Also, do you think the black 200 will look better with black alloys rather than orange?

Orange goes well with black but not so much with white. Of course that is my opinion but I think changing to black alloys on a black bike will give it a bit of a monotone. Rather orange alloys look refreshing.
The ktm pdi guy is just a trained monkey. He says flip the switch thrice because that's what he has to do as per SOP for the very first time the bike is started after assembly. This is to fill the fuel pump pipes and fuel filter with fuel since they are completely empty. You flip the switch more than once after that at any time for any reason and the fuel pump will eventually break down.

Oh... So much info.. what if I keep the switch off only for long durations like I'm parking my bike at home all day or I'm parking it at office all night and nobody to touch her for 9 hours..

No you must switch off before turning the key to lock position and switch on everytime. Like I said before the bike must recalibrate everytime and it misses this once or twice when key is turned with switch already in on position.

                          Ok.. so..

                          Switching off..

                          - flip the switch off to kill engine
                          - use key and lock the bike..

                          Switching on..

                          - use key to switch on
                          - flip the switch on
                          - console loading
                          - start the engine

                          Am I right..?

Yes that is the proper procedure. If you keep the kill switch on and turn the key it is like giving shock to the system. It doesn't get proper current supply before functioning if done that way. That is when you get erratic fuel pump noise and error messages on the speedo (eventually not immediately).
