• Suzuki Gixxer SF : Ownership thread

Hi guys, I am looking to replace my gixxer sf 250 visor. Any suggestions for where to get a good one. I live in Bangalore so any local store suggestions or online is okay.

Thanks.

After changing the engine oil, the engine became much smoother than before, but I have some queries regarding it.
1.it is safe to pour the full 1 litre of engine oil (without engine oil filter change) ?

2. I'm noticing a drop in mileage. Earlier I was getting around 40 kmpl. But I'm getting only around 37 kmpl. What might be the reason for low mileage figures? Is it because of the engine oil quantity (1litre) ?
Hi,

Shell Ax7 is a very good engine oil, makes the engine butter smooth and gear shifts softer . Pouring in 1 litre will not be a problem as per me. But, I feel that its always better to change the oil along with the filter. With regards to the mileage drop, I am sure its not because of the engine oil quantity and it may be due to other factors like air pressure, etc.

Hi,

I own a Gixxer SF FI ABS BS4. Mine has AHO feature, Today, I faced a headlight bulb issue. Once the ignition is turned on, headlight is not turning on if its in low beam but it turns on if I switch to high beam. Should I be changing the headlight bulb? If yes, please suggest some good headlight bulbs along with fog lamps. Will change both together.
I don't know what the issue is, has anyone faced the same issue?

Another thing is with regards to the pillion seat height, can it be adjusted without making major mods?

Krishna, I had the same issue in my GS150R. The headlamp will glow very very dim in low and will work properly only in high beam. It happened after I took a pothole at speed. Went away after replacing the bulb. I can't say what helped - the new bulb or the act of removing/connecting the wires.

I did the same when I had gixxer. Drain the excess oil immediately, everything will be fine.
You wil even notice that bike rides stress free after draining the excess oil.

Thanks for your response Ashwanth. I will try changing the bulb then.

Hi Guys,

Recently the bike had a starting issue. And as per diagnosis ive replaced the spark plug with a new one from a local garage.....all was great for two days but it happened again.
i could understand that the issue is with generation of sparks and feel that the cable has fallen soft in the center...does anyone know the difficulty in replacing the sparkplug cable and its location on the bike?

Pictures would be helpful.

Back to the forum after a hiatus.
My bike developed a strange engine noise (like an autorickshaw) at 45k km on the odometer. This was while riding on the highway at the top end. Around 122kmph and 9.5 to 10k revs.
Was advised by the authorized service centre to get the engine overhauled.

Looks like this engine is not that sturdy.
Maybe it's just my riding style. I ride at high revs and high speeds most of the time.

Would upgrade to something with a better top end now. This bike is not fast enough for expressway rides.

Hello guys,
I've been noticing brake oil leak from the reservoir on the 2015 gixxer sf, took to service center but they couldn't fix.
Can anyone help how to fix it.
Thanks

Hi guys,
My gixxer sf tank has developed rust near the petrol cap, have applied casket cream but that also have bulged up. Any idea how can it be fixed without replacing the entire tank.
Thanks

Hi,
That gasket may enter the tank and cause more problems. It must have already blocked the overflow hole.

My tank also rusting, im planning to remove rust and paint that area using a small brush.

Have tried painting before this but it also came off after sometime. So tried this but it also didn't work.

you need to replace the front brake master cylinder.. its corroded probably due to the leaking brake fluid. for peace of mind change the master cylinder.
for the tank, pl remove that gasket sealant, and then take the tank out and empty fuel, clean the area properly with sandpaper, then apply red oxide primer, and then a layer of paint (enamel paint should do). You can get the red oxide primer and enamel paint at most hardware shops. these can be applied with a paint brush, which can again be bought at the hardware shop.

In the image the left side is more worn than tbe right side of the tire. Also the contact patch is a bit wider than stock in my opinion.

I got the tire for ₹3750. That includes a discount (which I forgot) and a rebate for the old tire.
But they are solid tires and I would 100% recommend them.
Atlast, I bought the tyre in the amazon great Indian sale for RS.2700. And the fitting costed me 300 in the local shop nearby. The tyre seems well built than the stock mrf and it seems like the contact patch is wider in this tyre. Click image for larger version

My Gixxer SF seems to have a problem riding in rains.
The rev drops for a few seconds then becomes normal and this cycle keeps repeating over and over. Similarly it's difficult to start the motorcycle if it's raining. In dry conditions, it performs beautifully, no issues.
What can be the issue?
Motorcycle is serviced properly.
Could the spark plug be the issue? (Plug was changed recently, March 2020).
Thank you.
