Once upon a time, a guy asked a girl 'Will you marry me?'
    The girl said, 'NO!'

And the guy lived happily ever after and rode motorcycles and watched sport on a big screen TV, went fishing and surfing, and played golf a lot, and drank beer and scotch and had tons of money in the bank and left the toilet seat up and farted whenever he wanted.

    • My Safeena closing on to the 21000km mark in 27 months of ownership-all systems reporting to work.

With 20000kms complete, the front fork oil -455ml per tube- was changed - front brake pads replaced- frame head T-stem opened and drilled from both sides and fitted with grease nipples to facilitate lubing of the T -stem lower bearing.

                    • Hi, I am posting after a long time. I had trouble logging into xbhp some time ago. But I needed a help now. So just trying my luck here!

Simply put, my Himalayan tps sensor failed!

Bike has done 25k kms. It got serviced at the RE svc for only the first two free services. After that I have been taking care of it. And it was running fine without any issues or failure of parts all these days.

But recently for the last 1000kms, it had rough idling. And suddenly one day, it struggled on the road with abnormal throttling. At home, i checked the tps sensor voltage and it gave me erratic readings. No matter how I adjusted the torx screw, the readings were not stable and heavily fluctuated and the bike failed to start at one point. When I disconnected the tps sensor, it started again with erratic idling and I took the bike to RE SVC.

They said they checked everything and diagnosed it and the error in ecu points only to the throttle body. Also confirmed it was the faulty tps. Since the tps sensor doesn't come as a standalone part, the whole throttle body needs to be changed and it costs around 11000 rupees.

And since I haven't serviced the bike at RE SVC for the last 20k kms, I couldn't claim a warranty. They also pointed out to me that the tps probe position was changed when I gave the bike to them. So it's very difficult to claim a warranty. I haven't even adjusted the tps sensor in 25k kms of the bike except this time. And it's very disappointing for me to not able to claim a warranty!

The manager at SVC said he ordered the throttle body and we are waiting for the part to arrive for the past one week. He said he will check if he can do anything within his capacity. The bike is still in SVC for the last 10 days.

Any advice from the forum members would be much appreciated! 🙏🏽 Thanks!

Unfortunately, the TPS sensor, on almost all the bikes doesn't come as a separate part, it does comes integrated with the throttle body assembly. In case of failure of any of these sensors, it would warrant a complete part replacement. What I would suggest you do is hunt for a used throttle body from a scrapyard nearby if luck favors you, you can get it for a fraction of the cost, but again, a lot depends on whats and ifs. Secondly, you shouldn't have fiddled with the torx screws of the sensor body. Fiddling with those screws won't mean a thing. All you would perhaps do is loosen and tighten the sensor body, and perhaps that's why the folks at the RE showroom have mentioned, the probe position has changed, bad luck perhaps.

Perhaps you can try your luck by cleaning the throttle position sensor, and see if it helps solve the issue. A faulty 02 sensor too would result in the same problems you've faced, stuttering, inconsistent idling, hesitant throttle response and stalls. Do get your 02 sensor checked, strongly recommend this.

                        Good luck.

                        Cheers!

The throttle body and the O2 sensor was cleaned just 5000kms before. I highly doubt there would be a problem in them. I have also cleaned the tps sensor before giving the bike to ASC but no use . Anyway, I will ask the ASC guys to check them too. And yes, I shouldn't have fiddled with the torx screws. But I wanted to try my luck if I can get it sorted. Because, the bike was running well except for the last 1000kms with some mild rough idling. And I never thought the tps sensor would go kaput! My bad luck and a lesson well learnt!
I will try to look for a used one and will also update the status here.
                          Once again, Thank you!

                          • The rear shocker lower bush had been almost rotten by the acidic rainwater here in my local industrial area - this led to significant freeplay in the swingarm/shocker interface - the standard part was unavailable at the ASC - the ASC guys improvised a good quality Senior make rubber bush - grinded to length and made to fit- Cost Rs560 for all systems reporting to work - Odo now at 23450km.

                            • Senior rubber parts are a savior, right from scooters to what not. Your Zest is the one of the things that's keeping this thread alive. Do keep logging in your experiences. A word of note though, most rubber grommets, rubber shields and tubes on the REH tend to form cracks very soon. If your shocker eye bushing have cracked, the bottom rear shock linkage bearing too might have rusted or ran out of grease. Get those bottom linkages removed and the bearings greased, should save you from the dreaded creaking noise and/or bust linkage bearings in the future. Good luck.
