Re: Yamaha FZ 25 Owners Reviews and Experiences
Mostly when touring on highways. still it's not that much, i talked about it because whatever backfire was there is now pretty much gone after iridium plug. so that was something i noticed apart from stable idle rpm.Originally posted by Kirankarunan View PostHi. Do you do a lot of engine braking ? I can't remember ever experiencing backfire on mine.Fz25 2018 (ABS retrofitted)

Re: Yamaha FZ 25 Owners Reviews and Experiences
Initial impressions with 0.06/0.08-
There was a noticeable change in the smoothness. Improvement in response, but I still feel a little bit of lag while accelerating from 5k rpm. Engine feels a bit more free revving than before, not excellent, but not poor as well.
Couldn't exceed 75kmph, so can't judge how it will be. Upto 75 the bike felt better than before. Will have to check if the clearances decrease over a period of 2-3 weeks, and the performance on the highway.Last edited by Shashank K R; 11-26-2019, 03:10 AM.

Re: Yamaha FZ 25 Owners Reviews and Experiences
Today i got the time to test 0.05/0.08mm and something more. some changes i noticed -
1. slightly better sound, and even after riding 35km @ mostly 90-110kph, no increase in engine noise.
2. bike touched 141kph with a pillion, ( with some wind assist
)
3. after coming home i checked clearances again on hot engine, intake was 0.05 ( no change in drag), exhaust was a little bit more than 0.08mm because drag on 0.08mm feeler gauge reduced.
after this i tried 0.04/0.07mm (this is not recommend but i'm an idiot so whatever lol) in afternoon once the engine was cooled down, then did 20km run. changes observed -
1. almost no tappet noise. and no sound change after 20km riding @ mostly 80-100kph. ( couldn't go for top speed test due to traffic )
2. engine was hot this time but nothing serious like dukes, no issues in acceleration (infact there was a little improvement). no smoke etc.
3. no change in clearances this time, drag on both feeler gauge was same.
i think i'll settle with 0.045/0.075mm. will report after a week if there's any change in clearances, mileage, noise etc.Fz25 2018 (ABS retrofitted)

Gurpal (Youtube) suggests 0.07/0.10mm inlet/outlet setting.Originally posted by Shashank K R View PostInitial impressions with 0.06/0.08-

Re: Yamaha FZ 25 Owners Reviews and Experiences
Already tried this setting, it doesn't work for my bike anymore after that episode with the tight tappets. This setting also doesn't seem to stick, the exhaust always comes down to 0.08 after 1-2 weeks.Originally posted by prakash_mvpa View PostGurpal (Youtube) suggests 0.07/0.10mm inlet/outlet setting.

I guess this bike will keep owners engaged for sure (pun intended) - finding the correct valve clearance values.Originally posted by Shashank K R View PostAlready tried this setting, it doesn't work for my bike anymore after that episode with the tight tappets. OT: I remember my futile attemps fixing my Bullet Electra 4S (CI) a decade back, buying all expensive bronze valve guides and what not expecting Bullet will become reliable & faster.
BTW, is it the expansion of the valves that's creating problems? If yes, why can't Yamaha resolve this with a better tolerant material for valves!Yamaha, afterall are kings as far as metallurgy is concerned of engines.Last edited by prakash_mvpa; 11-27-2019, 10:12 PM.

Re: Yamaha FZ 25 Owners Reviews and Experiences
It depends. My bike has some wear in the rocker arms and valves due to my riding with tight tappets (I rode it pretty hard then). Otherwise checking and setting them to 0.06/0.08 or 0.07/0.10 every 5000kms is fine. The noise isn't the issue for me, it's the performance.Originally posted by prakash_mvpa View PostI guess this bike will keep owners engaged for sure (pun intended) - finding the correct valve clearance values.

Anyway after some point, the clearances settle and they change very very slowly. Probably that's why people who didn't get their tappets adjusted at all are not facing any issues.Last edited by Shashank K R; 11-27-2019, 10:23 PM.

Re: Yamaha FZ 25 Owners Reviews and Experiences
well we already know correct clearances. i'm just experimenting with it to see what can be gained. majority of owners are fine with it actually. otherwise Yamaha would have changed something like they did with exhaust coating and headlight.Originally posted by prakash_mvpa View PostI guess this bike will keep owners engaged for sure (pun intended) - finding the correct valve clearance values.

Re: Yamaha FZ 25 Owners Reviews and Experiences
I'll probably try 0.05/0.08 and 0.05/0.07 next. I won't venture below that as I have experienced the bike with those clearances earlier.
Hopefully they work out. Currently I'm riding the bike like this since I park at office and apartment parking only.

Re: Yamaha FZ 25 Owners Reviews and Experiences
Hi, what Shashank mentioned would be best and permanent. However, it involves removing and remounting the tire. I had lot of issues the first year with constant tire punctures (mainly because I was keeping the pressure too low). So I bought thisOriginally posted by rajan_coolrock00 View PostGot a nail in my rear tyre.

It's better than the thread type. I haven't had one fail yet. Only thing is use the smallest size reamer to clean the hole. Slight learning and experience needed but then onwards it works very well.Last edited by Kirankarunan; 11-28-2019, 06:50 PM.
