  • Hi Everyone,
i am planing to buy FZ 25 as my next bike.
my previous bike was a 100 cc bike, its maintance was simple.

if anyone can upload the user manual of FZ 25 BS6, it will be a huge help to know the maintainance, warrenty conditions etc. of quarter liter performance bike.

if it was already uploaded ,plese share the link.

    Thanks in advance

    • Hello everyone,

I previously owned Hero Impulse, rode it mostly for touring and light off-road for around 60k kms.

Then I got my eyes on my RE Interceptor at RM launch event.
Loved the bike but I'm 6'4 tall and 102kgs so that bike was feeling little small for me if I'm with pillion. So dropped the idea and sticked to getting Dominar400.
Later one of my friend's 2016 Ninja 650 was up for sale and without thinking anything I got her home.
Later on sold my Impulse as spares were not available.

And I was in desperate need of secondary bike for regular commute.

I have recently bought pre-owned FZ25 2017 BS4 model. So far so good. Engine is butter smooth and exhaust note has its own deep grunt. Loved it.

Just wanted to confirm few things for my future upgrades on this bike.

      1) does anyone here upgraded the front and rear suspension for better ride height?
I was thinking of getting front end swapped with Xpulse 200T forks along with brakes and wheels

      2) RCB hydraulic clutch and front brakes - does this upgrade really makes difference?

      3) as I'm tall, wanted to swap the handlebar with RD350 style or little more taller for my comfort. For this what kind of alterations needed in switchgear harness or in other handlebar controls.

      Requesting everyone to guide me.

      Thanks in advance.

      • i think the best solution is to add fork risers & handle bar risers , i am 6 feet and after putting both the ride is much more comfortable , with added height front forks dont bottom out and the bash plate also does not hit the speed breakers with pillion, i put p s custom both risers & the stock cables are just about adequate no need to change , hope that helps , Cheers

Dear Gurpal, I have seen most of your DIY videos. Thank you very much for sharing your knowledge. I want to discuss one very important thing about the tappet adjustment (videos).
          You mentioned that inlet value is 0.05 mm to 0.07mm;
Outlet 0.08 mm to 0.10 mm
Your recommendation for best engine performance - inlet 0.07 mm and outlet 0.10 mm.
I found a copy of the training manual. The tappet clearances are the same as you have mentioned.
Earlier I had a BS4 FZ25. Now I have got a BS6 one. During 2nd service when I asked to check tappet clearances they found that inlet was 0.12, outlet 0.14. I asked ASC to adjust to .07 & .10 (as per your recommendation).
However, ASC said that the values I mentioned were for BS4. For BS6 the values are inlet 0.10 and outlet 0.13.
I couldn't believe!! I asked them to show where the new values for BS6 was given. THE COULDN'T FIND ANY OFFICIAL DOCUMENT TO SHOW.
I was also in a doubt. I showed them the training manual (soft copy) but they said they have confirmed from other ASc that it is .10 and .13.
Finally, I agreed to them and my bike was adjusted to inlet .10, outlet .12.
I asked them to find the document where new values for BS6 are given and show me later. I will again visit them the next week.
In the mean time I called Yamaha customer care about this. They said they will confirm and call back. Later on, the same day, Yamaha customer care (same lady who received my call) called back and informed that the values for BS6 are 0.10 & 0.13.
The next week when I visited ASC they said that they couldn't find separate institutions for BS6. However, they showed me the Service Manual for BS4 issued in the year 2017. In that the values were as follows:-
          Inlet 0.05-0.10mm
          Outlet 0.08-0.13
I have seen it with my own eyes. Later on I found a soft copy of the same service manual and cross checked. It was correct.
Now I was stumped! The upper limits in Service/Workshop manual is different (0.03 higher) from that in the training manual!
Gurpal, I request you to comment on this new data as I think you know the most about tappet adjustment.

Yes there is a difference. I know it already. I trust workshop manual more than training module. Check in the service manual of BS6 for confirmation.

FAZER 250 ABS (Portuguese) and exact same for XT250 as well
            Inlet 0.05-0.10
            Outlet 0.10-0.15

            FZ25 BS4 manual says
            Inlet 0.05-0.10
            Outlet 0.08-0.13

seen the difference? all workshop manuals are almost same than training module.
in BS4. Inlet at 0.05 would still work but not the outlet at 0.08. All are same engines even Portuguese share same as XT250 but dont know what is with BS4. As per my test 0.10 work best on BS4.

What they mentioned to you (inlet 0.10 and outlet 0.13.) for BS6 is within the range of ABS Fazer. This will work if they share same engine but knowing the exact range as per BS6 manual would be best.

During 1st service I asked ASC to adjust to 0.07 and 0.10 (your recommended values). They did so. The engine felt very smooth for about 3500 kms
During 2nd service when I asked them to adjust to those values again they started all this fuss. With their now adjustment of 0.10 and 0.12 the engine feels a bit rough.
I personally feel that your recommended values also hold good for BS6.
Anyway, I will try to find BS6 workshop manual in some other ASC.
Thanks for your reply and insight.

                • Hello everyone. Just leaving an update on my 2017 model bike. I have done some 54k kms now on it. It's been super reliable. Like a much more powerful Unicorn. Besides putting petrol and chain lubrication, am not doing anything.

At 50k km I had a bunch of work come together. Mainly the brakes (replaced fluid, hoses, seals, front disk and pads). I also did a throttle body cleaning (if the petrol used is good then very less carbon seen). The front shocks oil was changed (every 10k km). Changed both tires also. Valves were checked. The clutch and accelerator cable I changed preventively (every 24k km). Then general oil and air filter change.

The chain kit comes for about 30k km in my use. At 20-21k km it becomes a bit more noisier. For the current chain kit I have only been lubricating it every 700-1000km. No cleaning. The front sprocket has lasted better with this approach. And saves me considerable time otherwise spent in cleaning.

I had one odd problem that I only created. I had habit of lubricating the clutch cable every 1000km. But that oil was going down and building up at the place where the cable attaches to push rod. That dusty oil wore out the hole where the cable sits. But I haven't changed the push rod yet. It's a few 100rs and some 12rs for the oil seal there. But to get to that part we have to remove a lot of things. Probably the air box also. The manual states to apply grease at that link. That way I think dust doesn't make a paste and grind the hole open. Anyway will change it as time permits.

It has been a dependable bike so far. As my work requires me to travel in city about 70-100km a day, important to me that I spend limited time on maintenance. Only grouse I have is starting it after keeping it in sunlight. I have to open the fuel cap, air it out and then start. Else takes more time to start. But got used to it and otherwise park in shade. Another good part is mileage consistently of 42km/litre.

Sourcing parts for it is a bit tricky if we don't have a showroom close by. I have a good relationship with the spares people and most times they get me what I need in a week. And showroom service experience has been bad to terrible in 3 places I tried. So I do all the work myself. This I feel is an important factor in keeping reliability high. Overall am happy with it and serving me well for my usage. And hoping it will keep going :-)

                  • Yamaha Fz25 , 6 months old , 2nd hand , fair value ?

                    Hello everyone,

I am looking at a second-hand Yamaha F25 as my daily driver in the city (Bangalore). The bike has done about 4000 kms and is 6-7 months old.

What should be the fair value? I am looking to buy it from one of those second-hand bike dealers.

Included touring setup and good crash guard

Has 5 years of insurance on it.

I rode it for half an hour and it seemed pretty okay to me.

Ask price : 1.5 lakhs. Should I go for it ?

                    • Guy's I've recently bought a Yamaha FZS 25 BS6 on 4th May. Completed 300km. But after completing 200km on odo i feels like my bike lost pickup (throttle response). Before I just have to give little twist to accelerator and the pulls instantly from 2k to 5k RPM in no time. But now I feels like my bike pulling very slowly and after crossing 4k RPM in every gear bike engine feels very harsh with generator like vibration like I've touched the Rev Limiter. Speed increase very slowly after 4k RPM and I've to give full throttle. Before i can do 60-70 in 5th gear at 4.5k RPM with zero vibes now my bike doesn't feels like it used to be. Gone to Yamaha ASC their mechanic said it's normal for new engine and will be gone after 1st service but i can literally say it's not normal. What should I do guys?

Hi did you go for it? I don't know what might be fair value. But thats essentially a new bike. I would get it if I was thinking of buying. By 10k km the engine is more set. Till then behaves differently.
