    bought it tomorrow from global yamaha Ahmedabad. on road price was about 1.60lac.
    haven't ridden it much.
    50km on the odo till now. but i think i am getting the tappet noise from engine.
    other than that everything else is pretty awesome.

      There's no tappet noise. Stop bending your head on that. It's a characteristic of the engine. Just enjoy the bike.

          Bought the Cyan Blue ABS variant around 2 months back.

          Two days back, got second service done too

          Have taken it from Bangalore to Hyderabad (around 600 kms) in single day crusing at 90-100 kmph.

          Post 110 kmph, engine feels stressed which is quite expected considering it has 5 gears. Yamaha have taken care of safety quotient with dual channel ABS and it works like charm.

          Driven around 5100 kms with no issues faced till now.

            So i went to the svc today to get new brake pads for the rear. The place was a bit crowded and my next service is due about 4k kms from now so i thought I'll just buy the brake pads and get them replaced elsewhere, or might even try it myself. The svc refused to sell the pads when i said I'm not getting them installed here. I've never experienced this with any other manufacturer so far. Is this a thing in all yamaha svc's?

                No, I always buy small parts like brake pads from the SVC and get it installed outside. Check another SVC, there's no such norm.

                  You can try another center. Another thing to check is that you remove and reuse the shims from the old pads. My first service centre didn't and I realised much later they were missing. Very expensive at some 300 odd for one. You need 2.

                    Hello Everyone, Here is my review of my One and half month old Fz25.


                    History: Was using Super splendor for more than 10 years and it was a fuzz free experience with good mileage and low maintenance and after 50k on the odo the bike had few issues which can be sorted out but at the same time I was looking for a new motorcycle. After a decision made to look for a new bike the big question in my mind was which bike to buy? I have to make a sensible choice considering my usage pattern and maintenance schedules and my primary purpose was just office commute and occasional weekend rides.


                    Bikes considered:

                    Duke 250 - Liked the styling and power but not at all VFM product by KTM.

                    NS 200 - Ignored due to lower low-end torque and never had an experience with Bajaj within my friends or family circle, Did not have the feel basically.

                    Duke 200: As the name says it all, it's really a Duke of all. Duke was very good in terms of performance, truly a superb performer even better than D250 overall, but 2 things let me drop this bike, one was pillion comfort since the seat was too small for pillion and very shorter gear ratios as this bike needs frequent gear shifts and if not in correct gear for the speed you will stall the bike.

                    Dominar 400 - Was little too much for my requirements as this is primarily best suited for long touring which I occasionally do.

                    Gixxer 250 - Couldn't keep waiting for the launch. Though I know it's launch date was May 21st, but still It will be late for me. Yes it is a Japanese maker but Suzuki factor was not inside me.


                    FZ 25 - This bike just ticked all my needs. Though the scores were low but it just ticked all!

                    1. The bike had adequate power to commute within city.
                    2. Slightly underpowered for highway speeds but sufficient enough for weekend rides.
                    3. Good mileage for a 250CC.
                    4. 5000km maintenance schedule.
                    5. Dual channel ABS for added safety.
                    6. Very good riding ergonomics and better pillion seat.
                    7. Finally the satisfaction of "YES YAMAHA". I always had a soft corner for Yamaha since the time my dad bough the RX100 in the year 1990 and thought of bringing the Yamaha back to the family!

                    Test drove other bikes like MT15, RE Himalayan ABS and even Interceptor 650! Just to see how it is.


                    The Purchase of FZ25 ABS:
                    Bangalore: Booked the bike on May 2nd and took delivery on May 10th with all the paper works done. I made sure all the PDI is done properly along with permanent number plate before delivery!
                    On Road price in Bangalore was 1.79 lakh! Including accessories and with the registration number that I want (3k).

                    Pls note: RTO in Bangalore is way too high



                    Accessories Fitted : Skid plate, seat cover, Hand Grip, indicator buzzer and crash guard.


                    Delivery day:
                    The bike felt light and easy to handle. On my first day I did not feel any difficulty riding the bike in traffic. From the showroom I straight away went to a Ganesha temple for a puja and then to petrol pump and returned Back home. It was a hot summer evening time and got stuck in Bangalore heavy traffic, took almost 1hr 30 min to reach home for just 20 km distance. I drove continuously in B2b traffic till home and I was little worried about the engine heat on the 1st day but didn't want to stop. Once I reached home the engine was boiling hot but no issues and fuel average that showed me was 10kmpl! Hope you could imagine how the traffic would have been.
                    Rested the bike for the night and next morning I did a reset to Average fuel indicator and took the bike on outer ring road Bangalore (Saturday) and drove it sanely with precise gear speed ratio for about 20 km and returned home. This time I was able to extract a mileage of 51.3 kmpl! Could be surprising for a 250CC but this ride was intentionally done to extract mileage.


                    Riding experience and bikes performance during engine break-in period: Straight away I would say this bike is an average performer considering the cubic capacity. Since this bike is two valve SOHC with simple air and oil cooling setup this motor is not a rev happy machine like R15 or the duke Brothers. But due to the simple setup Yamaha was able to price it affordable which is open for wide range of people, Thanks to Yamaha! and this bike returns a mileage over 40kmpl if ridden at around 60kmph in 5th gear and the main contribution factor for the mileage is its healthy mid-range torque because the motor is more relaxed at this speed in top gear. At speeds around 70 or 80 the motor still feels comfortable and refined but the mileage come down to 35 to 37 kmpl, still a good mileage for a 250 CC.
                    A small observation here, riding the bike at 40 kmph at 5th gear returned less mileage then riding the bike at 4th gear for the same speed. So keep a good gear speed ratio to get better fuel economy and to keep the motor relaxed.

                    I Have done my break in period in more relaxed way without sudden acceleration and made sure not to lug the engine, but took the bike above 115 kmph few times for a very shorter period and never had any issues with it and I personally feel it is the good way to follow for a proper engine break in.

                    Did a small ride to Bannerghatta national park of 100 km round trip with my cousin as pillion and throughout the ride I maintained a speed around 50 to 80's and did a short burst of 100kmph once. My cousin was more comfortable as pillion and I would say Pillion comfort is really very good in this bike.


                    A trip to Lepakshi from Bangalore: This was all during my break in period, It was a round trip of around 230 km along with my friend along with his KTM RC200.

                    I would say FZ25's sweet spot is around 70 kmph where the bike feels super refined with best fuel economy returning around 37 to 39 kmpl. This bike can cruise at 85 to 95 kmph all day long with a decent 36 kmpl on average. Anything close to 100kmph or above the motor feels as if it is working more to produce power. This is because 100 kmph comes at around 6300 rpm range which is above the maximum torque band of this motor's 6000 rpm and so the extra speed that you are demanding comes in a slower phase but still this bike can do more speeds as the peak power tappers only at 8000 rpm!. For me personally I would prefer to keep this motor always under 100kmph or even 100kmph because anything above 100 feels stressed and at 115+kmph speeds the fuel economy drops as low as 28 kmpl. But don't get me wrong, on touring perspective if you want to do 100+ speed this bike can do all day but you will have to compromise on mileage and refinement. Above 110+ continues speed is not good for the engine in long run for the FZ25. If your prime purpose is for touring at 100+ speeds better look for dominar. For mixed usage FZ25 will fit in very well and my choice of FZ25 was because my usage is 70% city commute and 30% weekend rides which will not be more than maximum of 250kms at any given round trip. But guys, for touring bike models does not matter but what matters the most is the rider’s capability and the TIME YOU Have to tour! You should have the interest to do it and the bike could be one of the driving factors to trigger you to tour - remember this point.


                    Please note: There is a huge advantage in this bike which I shouldn't forget to mention. This bike can cruise comfortably at 80's and 90's even with pillion all day without losing steam! due to its healthy torque. When I ride as single, I just feel the torque output is not used to its maximum!

                    Personally, here is an important thing. Once I started riding this bike for short trips it has become more addictive for me to ride more and more and feeling like taking the bike for long trips but I still feel little dissatisfied with the FZ25's top end speed for such long trips like more than 600km trips. But I have seen many doing very long trips with FZ25 in more comfortable manner. For me personally When you are touring, sometimes you will need more speed than usual in some beautiful highways! Need something like 120+ cruising speed bikes! (at least 5 - 10 min continuously and very frequently and mostly doing 100+), A CBR 250 can do this or may be even the Gixxer SF 250 can, but comes at a cost and defiantly FZ25 can't do this which comes at an affordable price for many and it comes for a different purpose as well. You get what you pay for!


                    So to answer the question of cruising speed on FZ25, I would say 85 to 95 kmph all day long comfortably! and only short bursts of 120kmph speeds considering long term ownership in mind.


                    I did feel 6th gear could have helped little more in cruising speed up to 110, But definitely that would have not helped in top speed because the top end rpm is not that revving in this motor, so may be that's the reason Yamaha did not provide 6th gear.


                    Meanwhile I rode my friends KTM RC200 which had 23k on odo, I did 127kmph with ease and still the bike was egar to be revved and I would say I can cruise at 110 kmph all day easily without any stress on RC200 ignoring the seating position as it was bit aggressive but very well contributed for the handling and high speed stability.


                    My friend who road my FZ25 said the same thing as the FZ25's sweet spot is around 80's and 90's and he did a top speed of 117kmph in FZ25 during the ride.

                    Since my bike was pretty new the engine might have not freed up and the speeds that I am mentioning here could be a bit less compare to other people's experience with the bike. I would also be willing to know how others are feeling about the cruising speed of the bike?
                    I would also like to know from others. Has the engine become free revving after putting more miles on the bike?


                    There is an engine rattling noise above 4k RPM and it is very much evident above 5k RPM. But I had such noise even in my super splendor but of with lower intensity and I think there is nothing much to worry about it.


                    Regarding the suspension and handling: The bike has a well-balanced suspension not too soft nor stiff, it provides a very good comfort and average bad roads are managed with ease but on very bad roads the suspension feels stiff. Tyre's are not great but serves the purpose, this bike is not good at corners and the bike doesn't let you lean much to take sharp corners at good speeds. Be careful on this aspect because one of my friend met with an accident as he was speeding at 80's while taking a corner and fell down. Now he is very well fine and the bike was fixed under insurance.

                    Head Light: I am quite satisfied with the light since I mostly ride within the city where the roads are lit in most of the areas. In pitch dark areas the lights are adequate but only problem is the throw which is more focused on in the front and not on the sides but still manageable. If you ask me, I would say the high beam is not the high beam as Yamaha claims, it is just the extended version of the lower beam. This has been a little problem for me whenever I try to signal for an overtake, vehicle in front of me never responds. Yamaha could have provided little more powerful high beam at least. If you are touring in night go for Aux lights.


                    The Brakes and ABS: Breaks are not very sharp like DUKE'S but progressive and the stopping power is more than adequate. Dual channel ABS works like a charm and not a single skid so far even under hard breaking. Till now I have felt only the rear wheel ABS getting activated though I use front brakes mostly. When activated you get a feeling like something is hitting on the break liver like Tik, Tik, Tik feeling!!!



                    Few data before 1st service:

                    Lubed my chain with MOTUL C2 at 500km.
                    Odo: 977 km on 1st service.
                    Fuel consumed: 25 litters
                    Mileage: Around 39 kmpl. 60% city and 40% highways with normal riding habit. The fuel console shows a little low average compared when calculating with tank full method, may be in the long run it might get equalized.

                    Weird observation: As per the manual the reserve capacity is 2.1 litters, i.e., when you get trip F in console and at this moment If I fill fuel for full tank, it only fills 10 to 11 litters. Which means it has around 3 liters of reserve fuel in the tank? Maybe it is the brand new float in the tank, that too need a break in I guess!

                    Post 1st service:
                    Service Cost: 1322
                    Engine oil changed to Yamalube sporty premium fully synthetic 800ml of 2 bottles with oil filter change. Service guy poured full of two bottles which is of 1600 ml in total and when enquired he said it is fine with oil filter change! I too was Okay with it! At the same time, I asked the other SVC guy about how much oil quantity is required for FZ25 and to my surprise he replayed confidently saying 1-liter sir! I don't think SVC guys are much aware of what they are doing with the bike, but as the owner pls make sure everything is done with your supervision.
                    Chain lube was done with some cheap quality product. I think he used the engine oil itself! And charged for it around 230Rs!



                    Issues Observed and rectified on 1st service:

                    1. I had an issue of finding neutral and the main culprit was the clutch play. Initially the clutch was in 50% play and later I adjusted it to 75% play which resolved the finding neutral issue.

                    2. Lowered the gear liver one step down for my comfort as I felt it was little up and my friend too had the same feeling.

                    So far no issues with the bike as it is serving the purpose 100% for the reason I bought the bike.


                    A small experience to share with respect to service's : Overall not only Yamaha, including all other manufacturers do not have much qualified or experienced mechanic's. If your bike is running fine with no major concerns just leave it as it is and enjoy the ride and don't allow the mechanics to work on it so that he will make things worse. But trust me there are few good and sincere mechanic's in SVC's too, if you could find them in your city then you are lucky!!!



                    After the first service did around 150 kms and the bikes feels smoother than before but I feel whatever observation I mentioned before will stay the same throughout. If so there will be a change and it will be of little. Currently my ODO is around 1150km and mileage it shows is 32kmpl as now I started riding or accelerating little faster as my old style After break-in period within city.


                    For me from the start the gear box was smooth and it even got better after the oil change. If anyone is experiencing clunky gear shift or finding neutral problems - Adjust the clutch play and check. Make it 75% Clutch play i.e., Not too short(50% play) or till the end(100% Play) - The bike should move when the clutch has disengaged 75% but not till 100%. Hope I didn't confuse anyone in this matter


                    Finally I Thank you all xBhp member and Fz25 owners on posting their experience with their bike which helped me in choosing this machine. So, I have shared my experience with the bike as it will help fellow owners or the future owners!


                    All the best! ride relaxed and safe with at least basic safety accessories like good quality helmet! Respect your machine and the road users and be patient from your side.


                    Know yours and your bikes limit and ride accordingly.

                      Depends on the dealer.
                      I replaced brake pads on my own by purchasing from the SVC as they wanted bike to kept for half day for 10mins work.


                      Fixed them after almost 2 months since purchase.
                      Already had aux lamps fitted earlier, but these had angel eyes.

                        The bend pipe discoloration happens on the newer lots too? Hasn't there been a collective voice raised against this issue with Yamaha?

                          The svc people here are a bit annoying. I ended up following life of pal's video on youtube after buying the brake pads off amazon. Majority of my riding is on highways so the stock rear pads lasted me 20k kms. I suppose these will get me about 15k too.
                          In terms of mods, Ive already installed aux lamps, highway flasher, led blinkers/pilot/number plate lights, custom vinyl stickers and probably some other stuff i dont remember right now.

                          On topic of mods, anyone using a bash plate from lluvia or autologue designs? Is it worth it?

                          • Handle bar wobble at speed post 70km/hr

                            Guys, My bike is 11months old and has done 8500km on the ODO. I have been experiencing wobbling issues on the front. The problem is once I rev it past 80km/hr the entire front assembly starts to wobble that includes the fork,stem and the handle bar. I checked with the tyre and nothing wrong with them and even after complaining it with the service station they are unable to solve it too.. Is there anyone else who has faced the same problem? nd need your suggestions regarding the same

                                In big metros, it definitely isn't legal. The so called high security number plates are the mandates for some years now.
