  • Re: Yamaha FZ 25 Owners Reviews and Experiences

Its been a week since I got my FZ25. Enjoying the city commute a lot more compared to my Dominar. Sticking to 4-4.5K rpm for the run-in period. The ODO is 185 as of today. Planning for a solo ride of 150-200 kms this weekend to get over the run-in period as early.

    Some annoying observations,
    1. The headlight doesn't turn off in signals on press of engine kill switch. I have to turn off the ignition key and turn on again.
    2. The entire headlight and LCD display console has some movement, and this gets annoying on uneven roads.
    3. Coming from Dominar, the only thing I badly miss is the amazing breaking it had when compared to FZ25.

Overall the experience is great. I will keep posting my further opinions/observations here.

^ Watched the video, good explanation regarding tappet noise but you forgot about the rattle noise which comes around 5-6krpm, it doesn't come from head and no matter what valve clearance you set it still produces that rattle noise. and according to Yamaha it comes from the balancer. it's the same case with xt250/ybr250 also as they share this engine. unfortunately there's no fix for that either. and to be honest i like that sound so don't really care if they fix this or not.

Found this on FB. SVC itself told its rocker arm and camshaft. Vibration is related to balancer.

And I was told about the same and here is my response. Sound is from head.

Nope, i believe that guy is not talking about rattling sound which comes around 5-6krpm, both are different and i bet his problems won't be solved even after those parts are changed. the rattling sound comes from crankcase and the reason is balancer (not just gear but whole mechanism) thats what Yamaha engineer told us in last year's Monsoon checkup camp ( almost 22-24 owners asked same question), i believe those guys over whatever svc tells. another reason to believe those engineers are that the noise goes away after 6krpm, but tappet noise doesn't. and it's same thing i have seen on xt250 forums as well. so 2 sources are saying it's balancer not the valve-train. anyway we can't really do anything about it and it doesn't really affect performance just that most people aren't comfortable with this as other bikes don't have this type of noise.

*maybe on that guy's bike there's another issue which we don't really know yet as his bike isn't fixed yet i think.

Hey, today I met with the Area Service manager of Yamaha of my region. He test rode my bike & said the noise seems to be due to manufacturing defect in piston block & chain or spring tensioner. He said he will replace both parts, as soon as it arrives (will take another 11-15 days) at the same time he said it shouldn't be a problem in riding the bike but why to continue with a fault. I am not sure whether I want to open the engine so soon.

What say folks, Is it a good idea to get the aforementioned parts replaced? (Not sure whether this will actually fix the problem but those guys shown no doubt in their resolution).

As of today am absolutely ok with the noise...

I have the FZS and with same noise issues I showed my bike to the Yamaha engineer .. he gave some technical explanation from where the sound is coming (which I forgot) and said we will need to open the engine to rectify it .. but he suggested me since your bike is performing normally there is no need to tinker with the engine on a new bike .. he said since your bike is in warranty you don't need to worry .. just ride and enjoy

Now what I have realized is Yamaha doesn't seem to be acknowledging the fact that their engine is having some kind of abnormal noise .. they'll behave like your bike is the first case they've come across with such sound and they'll do something to fix it .. on the other hand some SVCs like in my case just say that the noise is normal and should be ignored

Guys, guys... what's this qualm about engine noise? Calm down, it's just the rocker arm being spring type instead of roller bearing type. Only worry about engine noise if there's large drop in performance and engine harshness. Otherwise, don't...touch...head. Period.

Yes, exactly my point. Lack of their acknowledgement to this screw up is actually confusing us further.

Yeah .. when I first started hearing that noise .. i got scared .. i thought my bike's engine is screwed .. but after a lot of research and back and forth with the SVC .. finally i learnt that this is normal fz engine noise which i should ignore .. this is how the engine is made .. i think after replacing those parts the manager mentioned you .. there is no guarantee that the sound will be gone forever .. it might come back after a few hundred kms as it is the normal characteristic of the engine .. so if your bike is performing normally .. and the noise you are hearing is the same noise reported by everyone (coin rattling) .. i think you should ignore it and enjoy your ride

Don't worry, nobody is losing it. It's just a discussion about the unwelcome noise from the machine you love. This forum is for discussion about your bike & experience.

Exactly. The machine is fine. You can avoid the noise.

                              Hello mates,

Hope y'all are doing good. I gave my bike for 15k service and seems my chain sprocket is loosing its life and will last only for next 2k or so. Advisor says it'll cost close to 4k for replacement. Only for the past 6 months, I and my colleague are traveling to office often in my bike and the total weight of rider and pillion comes close to 210kgs.
So my question is: whether overloading of bike is one of the causes for the issue? Thanks for your responses in advance!

                              Cheers!

Try riding another new bike, if noise is much lower or different, you can go for replacement but if both bikes have same amount of noise As long as performance is good and wear and tear is normal. don't change anything. just do regular service and maintenance and bike will last long. don't do unnecessary mods. also stick to Recommended Yamalube oil and change it every 2000/2500km instead of using fancy engine oil for 4000-5000km.
