  • Re: TVS Apache RR310

    1. The chain noise which everyone is reporting is normal. The chain hits the roller when the bike goes through bumps which is beneath the chain near the footpegs.
    2. The bike still tilts to the right when you try no-hands. The mechanic has done everything by far possible. The tilting has reduced a bit I think but it may also be due to me pre-meditating and shifting my weight towards the left to nullify the bike tilting. I think its there in all Apache 310. A bike had come for PDI. Test rode that bike too. And before a guy came in with same problem. It stays stable at high speeds but around 50 kmph, it starts loosing it's stability. I think it might also be due to the rear grab handle which is on the right side. It seems quite heavy. Can't be very sure about it though.
    3. I have felt the rear loosing traction when I have used just the rear brakes at speeds of 30-40 kmph. The rear brakes makes some noise when used hard.
    4. Thinking of applying scratch guard on the display. I think it will get some scratches. It happened on my Honda City which had glossy piano finish on the front console. Some advices as to is it required ?
    5. Don't expect the mileage to increase much post 1st service as they are only changing the oil. Nothing is done to the engine. Do we need to change the oil filter as well ?
    6. Bike still stalls sometimes in 2nd or 3rd gear. Nothing has changed on that part.
    7. I think the service centre guys lost the extra bolt that was provided so now I cannot remove the saree guard-cum-tyre hugger. So be careful about this when you go for servicing.
    8. The gearbox is hard in 1st and 2nd gears. It's a hassle to change the gear from 1st to 2nd for me. 50% of the times it doesn't change in one go.
    9. So far from whatever short rides I have a done on the bike, the seat has been hard for my bums. About an hour of sitting on the bike and my bums start aching.

Something about the helmet I bought. It's a black/red Axor stealth exige. It feels very solid. No wind noise till speeds of 100-120. Stays stable as well at those speeds. Haven't tested much above those speeds. And yeah beat boxing with helmet lids closed is super-fun ! Idk if anyone has went for Axor but I have been pretty satisfied with its quality so far.

I'm done with the 1st service and the odo stands at 1350kms as of now.

      Observations :
      1. Chain tensioner sound : Few people apparently complaint about this. So? Did TVS fix this issue?

Yes they did. They added 2 layers of rubber on top of the roller. As this rubber is softer, there's no sounds anymore.

      2. Service cost : It costed me Rs 1011 for the first service. Service was done by bharath tvs Bangalore. It was smooth and the bike was taken care of.

      3. Engine : The new oil made a huggge difference. The engine barely has any vibs till 4000-4500 revvs. So much so that i thought i had stalled but i hadn't.

4.Mileage : Remains the same! I got an average of 41kmpl when i went for a ride with my friends yesterday. I was averaging 48kmpl at a time but then speeding overb130-140 and a few top speed run brought it to 41kmpl overall.

      5. Gearbox : The shifts are smooth. Never really had any issues honestly.

      6. Any noises or vibs? : Notv really. RHS mirror is little loose. So that makes a buzz. Need to tighten it.

      7. Overall : Mind = Blown.

(If anyone cannot believe the mileage figures, the friends i went with are on xbhp as well.)

        1. Shit I had told the TVS mechanics the same thing that it's making noise cause it's made of a synthetic material and it won't make noise if it's a rubber roller !!
        2. Mine was 790 rs. What did they do apart from chain lubing and engine oil change ?

          For above two points:

          • Bike is new, tyres & brake pads require some time to settle in. Cover some kms if problem persists report at TVS. The noise which is coming is most probably the ABS kicking in.

          • Yes oil filter needs to be changed in first service (I should say every service when engine oil is changed). Engine will get smoother and little bit of increase in fuel efficiency.

Quick update to my earlier post:

Received the updated quote from Dhiraa Motors (Chennai)
            EX-SHOWROOM --- 2,13,420/-
            REGISTRATION --- 22,730/-
            INSURANCE --- 4900/-
            MAND ACC --- 150
            TOTAL AMOUNT --- 2,41,200/-

So, looks like TVS has just hiked the price (also confirmed on the website even though it shows 2,13,000). Dealer confirmed that he has just received shipment and will be providing Mar 2018 manufactured bike and let me choose from at least 2 options when I drop in.

Can you guys please help answer before I get back to them:
            1) Would all bikes sold from here on (even the ones booked earlier/vehicles received by the dealer a few weeks before) be sold based on the revised price? The proforma invoice he provided on the 30th mentioned the on-road as 2,05,000 with approx on road price as 2,40,000/- . Dealer did mention that the earlier on-road price was 2.3L~ and rates may be revised due to RTO/regn changes so I am not sure I can hold him to the 2.05L ex-showroom price but just checking if the dealer has any obligation to bill the bikes received earlier than the effective price change date at 2.05L or does the rate change apply across all batches.

            2) Can the Chennai bikers especially confirm if the Registration is fair/around the ball-park of what they paid?

            3) I confirmed that the insurance is comprehensive for 1 year. Yet to get the name of the company but any suggestions on insurance will be welcome too.

            4) Mand ACC - anyone else paid this too?

            5) Lastly, glad to receive any tips on haggling for price/freebies for full-payment. Don't intend to be too pushy but I don't want to lose any opportunity to save especially due to the price hike.

            TIA!

Great! Early bird gets the prey. Go as soon as the lot comes and choose the bike. Also paying up as soon as you choose helps. Please not down your chassis number once you choose.
1 . The price hike was coming. Somebody posted it here.
              2. Tax, reg, insurance was 26000 odd.
              3. Insurance was from ICICI LOMBARD. Amount was around ₹4000. Thought I'd change it on next renewal.
              4. Fittings -₹585 was charged
              5. You won't get anything. Not even a cake. But, since its a new dealer, there may be some hope.

                1. Technically speaking you booked the bike before the price hike for the original price. So they should sell you the bike for the original amount. This can be put into effect if you have the Original Quotation with teh Ex-Showroom price mentioned on it (also they cannot simply update teh quote like that with the new price if you booked teh bike during the previous pricing). If the dealer said he will be providing March manufactured bikes then those bikes were made before the Price hike.

                2. As for teh registration in TS, for the first vehicle we have to pay 9% road tax, for any subsequent vehicle it will be 11% tax. Iam not sure if this is followed in chennai. Fine out the Road Tax % from somewhere.

                3. As for insurance, you can opt for Bajaj Allianz (with Drive Assure Silver package addon). This is a Zero Dep policy. So basically if any accident takes places, 100% will be covered by the company. ALso the Silver pack includes Engine protection so if engine gets damaged, that will be covered as well. In addition to that any consumables used during repairs will be covered as well. So its a No tension full cover package.

Thanks for the revert. Yes, I plan to go tomorrow or on Wed to select the vehicle and make payment. Don't care about the cake as long as I don't get a lemon!

Was the lombard insurance for 1 year? Read somewhere it is better to get 3 year coverage upfront as its more cost effective. Will check and take 3 years coverage if it makes sense.

                    Cheers!

Thanks for the inputs MotoBlizzard. Will definitely try to convince him to provide the vehicle based on the quoted 2.05lacs but I am not too optimistic.

Great input on the insurance. Also planning to get 3 years coverage upfront (after validating with some research tonight)

Haha. That reminds me, I need to include the temple visit on my long ride home after delivery.

Hope you are having a blessed biking life after getting your Rr310 too.

Would definitely like to meet up with you and other Chennai BHPians during any meet ups.

I don't think this is correct. Dealers always mentions that price will be finalized at the time of booking. Quotations are always at that point in time. If conditions change after that, the dealer is not liable to offer you the same price. However if you book the bike then you can assert your authority over the price. Still many a times, dealers still charge extra for registration if the charges have increased.
