I fully agree to your point that the ride control switch doesn't effect mileage, but out of my experience i think that 70 - 75kmpl is a decent mileage for a this bike (115kgs approx. dry weight)

Extracting more out of it may not be possible everyday & in all conditions.
And it is pretty painful to ride at 45 - 65kmpl using very little throttle and in hot weather conditions

Looks closely at the specs, that's the Kerb (wet) Weight NOT the dry weight.

I am going to buy discover 100cc as my first bike in next month. As I'm 6ft tall, I think it will suit me well. The looks are decent, & has class leading mileage.
But I'm confused with its reliability & durability as complained by many people here.
As I'm a college student, I don't want to spend my precious pocketmoney on major problems like lose chain, slipping tyre, gearbox, & low quality parts, etc.
          So, Please tell me,
          1) Is this bike durable for 5+ years of running?
          2) Does it maintain its mileage constant after 1-2 years, if rode properly?
          3) Can it pull my load of 65kg+ pillion of 70+ kg with acceptable power? (94.38cc motor is my big concern)
          4) And is it suitable for trips of 300-500km?
Never hesitate to ride past the last street light at the edge of town.

I am going to replace the Engine oil of Disco 100 to Motul 3000 4T 20W40. Can someone tell me how much engine oil it requires? Is it 900 ml or 1 ltr.

Also if the bike is under warranty can you bring a different brand of engine oil and ask the service center to replace it with that one as I contacted a few Bajaj service center in Delhi and they kept mentioning that it will void the warranty and not to use a different brand except for Bajaj engine oil.

I did try explaining that the user manual has an option for other engine oil and the grade should be same but they kept on repeating the same thing over and over. Kindly tell me if this is true or they are just trying to stop people from using a different brand of their choice.

                re: Bajaj Discover Ownership Thread

Made payment today and will get bike tomorrow.

Discover 100 DTSi its 4 Speed.

I already have a ZMA, parents insisted I get another bike for college, cause they're abit insecure about sending me away on India's best sports tourer
Anyways I was planning on getting the Platina 100 but after a TD I felt the Discover 100 to suit me best. The OTR Price is 53410/- This is including the buzzer, ladies grip and side box.

I've read a review in which the old Discover 100 DTS-Si gives a highway mileage of over 100kmpl, it sounded too good to be true, and since the one am getting is 4 Speed and Lacks the DTS-Si tag I'm having some confusion regarding mileage figures. Though I do hope its not anything below 80kmpl or am I being a bit too optimistic too soon.

Shell Advance AX7 (10w40) will be best for this cold season. I am using this, cold starts are so easy and smooth gear shifts.
Don't forget to change oil filter.
If your engine is old then keep checking level every 500 kms.
Motul 5100 is good during summer.
Which oil are you using now?

my discover is just 4000 km old and using bajaj dtsi 10000 oil as recommended by bajaj, but i think its not worth its price as it lasts for only 1000 km or so..

Shell Advance AX7 will be the best for now. It costs around Rs.300(mrp 365) and its worth. Change and feel the difference.

The most heard about complaint of any discover owners is the very bad performance of chain sprocket. Its a constant trouble for me, very unpleasant sound, and the longevity is very poor, i first replaced my chain sprocket set when my bike was only 11000 kms old.. now it has ran 22000+kms seems the chain is creating some problems again. Completely fed up, otherwise my bike has no other problems of now. My bike is discover dts-si 100 5G

need suggestions or a possible way out.

How often do you lubricate and clean the chain sprocket kit? Do you get the chain tightened at regular intervals? Is the sprocket properly aligned as per factory spec?

I don't know who is the oe chain supplier to the bajaj for this discover, but you can look out for aftermarket parts from Rollon chains or Diamond chains.

Bajaj oil is absolute koooda, just drain the oil and use any other brand oil like Shell or Motul according to the grade mentioned in your manaul

Motul is the best brand which handles bajaj bikes exceptionally well. Go for motul. Baja oils the worst i ever used.
